Hi,

can you tell me is there a way to turn of my z? It seems to use a non-neglible amount of power in suspend, and even plugging in/out a pair of headphones i can hear noise indicating that this circuitry is powered. My Zaurus seems to have drained itself to switch off from 40% power to not switching on over a few days (I know, wtf am i leaving my Z for a few days!). The same thing happened when it was shipped to me, it was shipped with a full battery, but a month later when it arrived it was dead (it got lost...). It then takes a few minutes on charge before it will switch on.

do you have alarms/alerts? that would power you Z on and eventually off.

? You mean that the machine actually turns itself on and then stays on draining the battery? I just checked, but i haven\'t seen anything to indicate that.

If you really want to power down the machine (as appossed to putting in suspend) then you need to flick the batter switch to \"unlock\" position, hold down the FN+Home keys while sliding the battery switch back to \"locked\"

This shuts down the Z completely and next time you turn it on it does the full reboot ~2mins.

Are you sure you are suspending the machine and not just closing the lid? This will turn off the lcd but the machine is still running (and thus using power in the background)

Hey Stubear, thanks for that. The only thing is that i have a pdair case, and the once i have removed the z from it, it took quite a bit of time and it\'s not an ideal situation. I did suspend by pressing the power button on the back. That stops music, etc. Should i have to select suspend on the menu instead? What is the timeframe for leaving the device on suspend? It\'s second hand, but i have gotten several hours out of it playing movies and music, so i don\'t think the batteries condition is too bad.

An alternative way to shut down the Zaurus with software is to open a console, SU to root, and issue \"shutdown -h now\" which fully turns the Zaurus off. Make sure when you do this you\'ve removed SD / CF cards & closed all applications such as netfront as it\'s a bit of a clumsy shutdown procedure but shouldn\'t do anything damaging. I\'ve used it a few times and had no problem with it.

I\'m not sure, but I think it depends on your power management. If you set it to suspend after 10 minutes of non usage, then I think that is the amount of time it takes to suspend after an alarm.

That\'s weird. I can leave my C860 for a week, and it loses less than 5% charge (having turned it off using the power button on the rear edge).

Had this once, and the cause in my (or I should say a reviewer we loaned a unit to) case it seamed to be either installing or running Opera.

Uninstalled it, reinstalled it and the problem went away. Not sure how/what exactly, it may not be specific to Opera itself more like some kind of program hanging or locking etc.

Point being, if all else fails, try reverting to basic install or doing a hard reset. It could just be some sort of software glitch you can\'t easily shake stopping the unit \"really\" suspending.

I used shutdown -h now, and it won\'t come on again? i have to remove it from my pdair case and remove the battery and try again. anyone else have this experience? the charging light worrying does come on when i plug in my ipda usb charge cable....

I removed the battery, and when i replaced it i thought for a moment it wasn\'t coming on - but it did. It seems that now my pdair case doesn\'t hold onto the battery cover properly at the front right corner. Anyone else have this problem? The battery cover comes away from the case.

I also have a PDAir case but it\'s not that bad to take it off and putting it back on is it?
or is it just me and mine has a broken part or something?
