KDE-Pim/Pi 1.9.4 Release
« on: September 08, 2004, 12:13:41 pm »
****************************************************
UPDATE : VERSION 1.9.5 available!
****************************************************

There is still no Addressbook syncing!

New in 1.9.5:

Many bugfixes.
Better mail downloading in OM/Pi.

First experimental alpha version of sync of KO/Pi with mobile phones.
See gammu documentation for supported phones.
You need to install the package kammu_1.9.5_arm.ipk for sync of KO/Pi with mobile phones. kammu_1.9.5_arm.ipk needs libbluetooth and libsdp.
Quick hint how to use:
NOTE: MOBILE PHONE SYNC IS EXPERIMENTAL!
Install kammu_1.9.5_arm.ipk , libbluetooth and libsdp.
Create syncprofile - mobile device
Remove entry for model. (Leave empty ).
Enable infrared on Zaurus and your Phone.
Sync.
To get a more detailed log, start kopi from konsole.

Hi!

KDE-Pim/Pi 1.9.4 for the Zaurus is available!

Download at:
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.p...ckage_id=112604

Get more info at:
http://www.pi-sync.net

This is the version 1.9.4 of KDE-Pim/Pi for the Zaurus.

WARNING:
PLEASE BACKUP ALL YOUR DATA!
We have changed a lot and maybe there are some unknown problems.

SYNC DATA STORAGE HAS CHANGED!
If you have synced already with version 1.9.3, you will get duplicated entries after the first sync, because the syncing of version 1.9.3 is not detected.
After another sync the behaviour should be as expected when syncing.
(This change was introduced to make it possible to sync with mobile phones, which will be available later (maybe in 4 weeks).
SOLUTION:
If you have already synced with 1.9.3, please remove duplicate entries on one of the devices before the first sync. After the first sync, you will have the same data on both devices again.
And syncing should work as usual.( I.e. no entries are duplicated ).

You need the kmicrokdelibs_1.9.4_arm.ipk as a base for the other programs.
If you get the error: "Install only possible in main memory", just try it again to install it on SD card. That worked for me. And it was reported that rebooting Qtopia did help in this case as well.

As programs are available:
KO/Pi (korganizer ipk) - a calendar program.
KA/Pi (kaddressbook ipk ) - an addressbook
OM/Pi (kopiemail ipk ) an email program with pop/smtp and IMAP support.

An alarm notification program ( korganizer-alarm ipk ) for KO/Pi that notifies you about alarms, even if the Zaurus is in suspend mode.
(If you do not see an icon in the taskbar after installing korganizer-alarm, please restart Qtopia)

All the applications are installed in a "Pim" TAB.
If this TAB is new on your system, you can get an icon in this TAB by installing pim_TAB_icon_1.9.4_arm.ipk

All the application are integrated.
Such that you can choose in KO/Pi the attendees of a  meeting from the addresses in KA/Pi. When you click in KA/Pi on the email address, OM/Pi is started to write the mail.

HINT:
If you install KPhone/Pi 0.9.7, it will be called, if you click in KA/Pi on a phone number.

What's new?

SYNC HANDLING HAS CHANGED!

New in OM/Pi:
When copying(i.e. downloading mails) , you can specify, that only mails of a given size should be downloaded. Added mail copy possibility for selected mails.

New in KO/Pi:
French is now available for KO/Pi.
Choose menu:Actions - Configure:TAB locale
Quick filter access now available via the menu.
Syncing has changed.
Phone sync available soon.
Not much changes, I cannot remember them ...

New in KA/Pi:
Beaming possible.
Sharp DTM readonly access possible( create a new DTM resource );
Better searching possible.
Search is performed only after pressing the return key.
Use wildcard * to specify parts of a name.

Better name/email selection dialog (called from KO/Pi or OM/Pi). In this dialog, now searching is possible. Like in KA/Pi, use return key and wildcard * .

A big improvement is the new management of the contact access.
In version 1.9.3, every application was using their own addressbook access data.
That means, the addressbook was loaded up to three times in the memory, when accessed by  KA/Pi, KO/Pi and OM/Pi.
That was wasting of memory, if you had several hundreds of contacts.

Now only KA/Pi accesses the addressbook.
If KO/Pi or OM/Pi want to get some name/email data, they request KA/Pi to open the  name/email selection dialog and send it back to them.
If you click on an attendee in a meeting, its contact data is displayed in KA/Pi directly.
That means, if KO/Pi or OM/Pi want to access contact data, KA/Pi is started first.

New in the KO/Pi alarm applet:
Configure your own timer popup menu!
(Text and minutes for timer countdown)
Just edit the file
(yourhomedir)/.kopialarmtimerrc
and start/stop a timer to get a new menu with the data of this file.

Please test and report bugs.
In the next version, there will be syncing in KA/Pi and syncing with mobile phones in KO/Pi and KA/Pi.

Looking good.

quick feedback bugs/suggestions...

1. mail app does not seam to fire up.

Run from prompt gives cannot load libssl 0.9.7b
Got and installed from killefiz (700k) then started fine.

2. Addressbook search.

Better now as it highlights all matching entries. But only in Table View, not Card View.

But even in Table view, still no way of going through them other than scroll bar and select.

Why not just take the final step and instead of just highlighting, remove all except matching entries ?

3. AddressBook Full view

Would be nice to have a full screen view.
Currently you get list as icons, table etc. and split view. Double Tap gives Edit.
Single/Double Tap Full screen view (read not edit) same as Right side split view with edit option would be nice.

I agree, that would make more sense.
I have to test it, how fast it would be with many items.

That is already implemeted.
Single/Double Tap Full screen view:
Can be configured "display List and details at one"
But That config switch seeems no to be working on the 760. Have to look at this.

Right side split view with edit option:
Menu:
Settings - Show extension bar- contact editor

Hello Zuber,

try the feature I have implemented for using Ka/Pi on my Z 5500 because the screen is too small for both, table and detail view.
Disable "Display List and Details at once" in the configuration and restart Ka/Pi.
Then you have the feature you want.

Or did I understand something wrong?

I get the error, when installing kmicrokdelibs:

"This package seems to depend on other packages- please install them too."

I'm on a stock Sharp 3.13 ROM.  Nonetheless, everything seems to install and launch alright. . . (after installing libssl, per Zuber's post).

Version in OpenEmbedded updated to 1.9.4 but only KOrganizer/PI, KAdressbook/PI and alarm applet are builded. Rest depends on modified 3rdparty libraries which we have in original versions and we don't want to feature modified versions of those libraries.

Hi Ulf1,

Using C860.

I was not very clear about edit function. Played with options you mentioned, but for some reason, they don't seam to change on mine. I untick exit restart and they are still ticked. Perhaps I need to reinstall...

Anyway, just to clarify. I was thinking that operation like that on KO would be nice.

In Month View, I see an appointment.
I double tap on it, it goes to full screen with option of edit or close (Also Agenda, but that does not make sense here).

The content of the full screen would be much the same as in the split view screen.

So user would :

Tap to select

OR

Double Tap to see Full Screen only (with button option to then edit)

OR

Tap to select then use Icon to edit.

Maybe config options for Tap, Double Tap, Tap and Hold etc.

RE: Only showing valid entries on search.

Speed is important of course. I just assumed most of the performance hit would have been in the actual search and highlight. Hence not much left to do in cutting number of items listed.

That was my logic anyway...

I think I'll be just about ready for total switch from outlook soon. Just worried about loosing some data from unmapped fields. I've put in a couple of ideas into sourceforge for this...

Time for bed here (UK).

Thanks again to you and Zautrix for your efforts.

This exactly what "Display List and Details at once" is for. If you disable this setting,

you
-tap to select contact in tableview,
-double tap to switch to detailview
-press icon to go back to tableview
-or press icon to edit contact

Hi Ulf,

Yes, using latest version. For some reason the config options are refusing to change.
That is you change them, exit program and restart, but they are still the same.

Sounds like it is supposed to work already, so will do an uninstall and clean up files that may be causing problems and then install again.

Thanks.

Zuber,

I have the same behaviour on my 760!

Such that the behaviour is a bug.

I will try to fix this.

Reinstalling will not solve your problem.

It sounds, that you did not install the microkdelibs package correctly.
The application interprocess communication seems not to work for you.
