Camera Battery In A Zaurus?
« on: November 23, 2004, 10:17:17 pm »
In my search for a cheap alternative to mail ordering an extra battery for my c760 that I could actually buy in Canada, I thought I'd check for any camera batteries that could fit.  What I found is:

http://www.master-instruments.com.au/brows...l/DCB_NP60.html

This battery is 0.1mm longer than the EA-BL06, but the other dimensions match, so I'm thinking that it could be convinced to fit.  As a bonus, it's 1100mAh, versus the 950mAh of the EA-BL06.

Now apparently this camera battery fits:

Kodak Easyshare LS633
Pentax Optio 330
Pentax Optio 330RS
Pentax Optio 430
Pentax Optio 430RS
Ricoh Caplio RR30/RRR11
Casio Exilim EX-Z3
Casio Exilim QV-R3
Casio Exilim QV-R4
Panasonic SV-AV10K
Panasonic SV-AV10
Panasonic SV-AV30
Fuji / Fujifilm F601 / F601 Zoom
Fuji / Fujifilm F401 / F401 Zoom
Fuji / Fujifilm 50i
Fuji / Fujifilm F410
Fuji / Fujifilm 1400
Fuji / Fujifilm 2300
Fuji / Fujifilm 2400

Anyone have any of those cameras?  Does the battery look like it would fit?  Is the polarity correct?  I wouldn't actually try out the battery in your zaurus unless you know what you're doing...!

Thanks!

This definitely looks like it should work.  The c750 uses the same battery as the SL5000 and SL5500.  The battery in these units is 3.7V, as is the battery you've mentioned here.  I don't think there's going to be any issue trying to make it work.

What I want to know is, where in Canada do you get such a thing?  I'm in Toronto, and I'd love to pick up one of these.

Sorry to spoil the party but the helper notes inside my 5500's battery bay indicate that the "+" contact should be closer to the edge. Marking on the EA-BL06 confirms this. The picture you link to clearly indicates that DCB-NP60's polarity is exactly oppostie... Although the image also indicates a capacity of 900mAh whereas the spec sheet says 1100mAh so maybe the polarity is also wrong? One can always hope...

I had spied these in local Best Buy.
Salesperson suggested that the battery case could be opened and poles switched to the position the Z would require.

Anyone willing to try?

"Salesperson suggested that the battery case could be opened"

I doubt it:  I bought an "accessory kit" for a Gateway camera from Computer Geeks,  hoping that the battery might turn out to be usable.  Unfortunately (and not too surprisingly),  it's made like the other camera batteries,  not a Z battery.  It looks to me like the plastic was quite thoroughly glued/welded,  and would need to be cut,  rather than just pried,  open.  I.e.,  no easy and tidy reassembly.

Even more unfortunately,  compgeeks.com has sold out of the kits (they still have a version for a different camera that has AA batteries,  so don't be fooled),  which blows away my Plan B:  buy several and use them in my own projects.  So,  if you doubt mypessimistic evaluation,  or have a compatible camera (I think the model number was "DC-T50"),  drop me a note:  I'll sell this one cheap.

I think the best chance for an alternative would be to find a battery about 3mm shorter than the original,  and make a PC board to glue onto the end of it that remaps the contacts.
