I just got $500 for mine in an eBay auction. No extras except the USB host cable, no box or CD. The guy seems very happy with it.

Do you by chance have a link to the Ebay auction?

If your going to use X/Qt with Debian, you don't want to run the postinstall script. You didn't miss anything.

Well, it's mostly a matter of taste.  The postinst.sh script takes care of some things that you'll have to handle manually or make your own scripts for otherwise (mounting the proc file system in the chroot enviornment etc).  It also gives you a handy script in /usr/local/bin that handles setting DISPLAY and firing up your window manager etc.  Of course it's not a big deal to do this yourself.

FWIW when I called  I spoke with a CSR named Carl and he got the ball rolling on the refund without any fuss and he told me it would take 1 to 2 weeks for my refund to show up.  I then mentioned the possibility of a $20 gift certificate for my troubles and asked him to look at the notes in the order # provided by OG.  He asked me to hold on a minute and when he came back he was willing to give me that $20 as well.  I don't really know of course if he actually read the notes or just went for coffee but I didn't push it.  The gift certificate (signed by Carl) showed up within 15 minutes and a confirmation that my A-Z claim had been filed showed up right after (no sig).   About 10 minutes later I got a second confirmation from a CSR named Lauri who also claimed to have filed a A-Z claim for me.  This second confirmation read more like it was a response to one of my earlier emails but that would be a heck of a coincidence.  I'm not sure what to make of that but it does look like I have at least one refund coming.

Don't waste your time on the "Locales" warnings.  I'm pretty sure all (or at least most) of us are seeing those and they don't seem to be hurting anything.

FWIW when I ran the postinstall script from the debian package it placed file called Vncserver in /usr/local/bin as well as file called zdebian in /etc/rc.d/init.d and a config file in /etc.  Basically when my system boots it runs the zdebian script based options in the config file in /etc.  That handles mounting the proc file system etc.   Then when I want to actually use that enviornment I:

Click <startx> and wait for the rxvt to start up.
Bring up a terminal window (from the applications tab, not within X) and type su to become root.
Type Vncserver to bring up icewm.
Click on the running Xwindows Icon and it's all working.

I had to adjust the config file in etc and also the Vncserver script to make this work.

How are you going to use it?  I just bought my 6k a little over a week now and my reasoning went something like this:

The C3000 was out of my price range.  I mean I COULD have bought it but I just couldn't see myself carying around an  $800 PDA everywhere and if I was only going to have when I expected to need it I might as well have stuck with my laptop.  That left me with either the 760/860 or the 6000 and the USB host support was what tipped the ballance (the lower price and easier access to warranty service didn't hurt).  One thing that the clamshells have going for them is that when using the keyboard the screen is in landscape mode which is somewhat better for more PC like applications.  With my 6k I can still rotate the screen but that makes the keyboard mostly useless.

Bottom line, I'm really happy with my 6k but I think I'd be pretty happy with a clamshell as well.

Nmos, just hit the search for new dictionaries button and the ZBEDic should find any dictionary you can use. I think everything is automatic and you don't need to change the search path. If the ZBEDic doesn't like the dictionaries you have the selection boxes will be in gray or a message will pop up.

I'm actually trying to limit the search path so it doesn't take as long to find the dictionaries and doesn't come up with so many false hits (lots of files under /mnt/card/debroot/proc etc.).

nmos: Have you rebooted recently? Maybe you have some CPU intensive tasks running in background with no associated window. It shouldn't be so long to startup.

Even after a fresh reboot.  It's a lot faster if I don't have my (mostly full 512MB) SD card in though.  It looks like it's searching through every file on the system.   Other programs seem to do this too.  I just tried installing ZBEDic and  after searching for my dictionaries for over an hour it came up with a huge list of files, most residing in /mnt/card/debroot/proc......     Ditto if I do "Open local file" in Opera.  I don't even want to know how long it's goiing to take if I ever have a large drive nfs mounted when I try one of these.

I'm using the built in wireless.  It doesn't always seem to do it either but I havn't been able to see a pattern.

It works... you just have to hold it down for a couple of seconds.

And be patient.  On my Z it takes 30 - 45s for the record app to start!

FWIW I've only had my 6k for about a week but I can already tell you that Debian & X/QT combination rocks!

X/QT Versions and modmap.

Something I found out by accident is that there are 2  (at least) X/QT feeds:

http://xqt.sourceforge.jp/feed   This one is the one linked to from the X/QT downloads page.

http://xqt.sourceforge.jp/feed-testing   This is the one linked to by smuelas.

The latter one actually works really well for me but the former gave me the same xmodmap problems reported by others and some other quirkyness.

In short, make sure you are getting the version you intend to get.
