Simon,
Thank you so much! It's good to see someone still uses this machine.
Please make the archives available. You can PM me the details or post it here.

Again, thank you and have a great weekend.

Dennis

I will post a link when the files are uploaded.  I will upload everything I have but I can offer no support as it is around 8 years since I flashed/installed anything to my C860.

Simon.

Hello all,
Seems all eabi related links are dead, like angstrom-distribution.org and the french site that hosted a debian rootfs. Only yonggun is alive but it's not clear if andromeda would work on a C760.

Can you help me with instructions (and working links) so I can install angstrom or debian EABI on my C760.

Currently my C760 is running an u-booted pdaxrom r197.

I need a command line and binutils only. I also need to clock my Z down to 200Mhz for better battery life.

Thank you in advance.

Hi,

I have a few Zubuntu Jaunty archive files and the Debian Big-v0.18.tgz archive.

I can make them available if you want them.

All the best,

Simon.

All this seemed to do is to remove most of my system..then crash. Presumably I missed something?

Hi adf,

How did you get on with the upgrade?

I just reinstalled with the correct files and things seem to have improved alot!

All the best,

Hi all,

I upgraded my RC1 to Jaunty as described in this thread and everything seemed to go smoothly.  However when I rebooted I was asked for a password, for the root account, which I do not know/have not defined.

Any ideas how to get around this?

Diesel1.

if your have ubuntu on an sd, boot a ubuntu live cd and mount the sd , then edit (as root) the /media/sd-path/etc/shadow

and remove the "!" in the root:!:... line

for example from this
root:!:14266:0:99999:7:::

to this
root::14266:0:99999:7:::

Hi same,

I will try to patch the shadow file on my Arch Linux Desktop.  I have never had to do this in 14 years of using GNU/Linux!

Thanks for the help,

Diesel1.

yup this is weird, i had no problem with the root passwd after the upgrade, maybe i got it setup so i didn't notice. strange pw reset

Hi same,

Just like you said the shadow file needed editing after being replaced in the upgrade, maybe there should be a warning to set a password for root, or maybe I should treat my C860 with the respect it deserves and implement some security!

Many thanks,

Diesel1.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Qlwm Qt Window Manager

I just complied the qt3 version on my Z in minutes. It is pretty minimal, as is--some tweaking and customizing would need to be done before it is really a good alternative.
I bring it up because it runs on x11, doesn't seem to take much time to load libs to run dillo. it also seemt to be quicker at loading qt apps (since qt is already loaded). ta qlwm project page shows konqueror running on it.  possibly this could be the basis of a nice x11 gui for the Z running light kde stuff?

I guess the next step is to see how 'full' a konqueror can be made for it?

This sounds interesting adf, I did like messing with kde on my Z but although it was fun I like to get stuff done as well!

Have you tried iwconfig and ifconfig? You may be able to get it to work with those. You may need to run dhcpcd <interface> too.

Could you PM me the details of your network setup/wlat you did with wlanconfig2-2? I'll try to fix it.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=164808\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Hi Capn, I got the wireless up a minute ago, but still no dns.

I will try editing the resolv.conf again....after dinner!

Thanks for persevering with me,

Diesel1.

UPDATE: Network is working, browsing aswell. Thanks one and all.

Go to the last page of the package announcement thread and get my FLTK package. Then, go to the new wireless config tool thread and download wlanconfig2-2_0.1_armv5tel.ipk and install that. Run wlanconfig2-2, and you will have an ugly but functional GUI to set up your wireless. The original config tool is broken.

EDIT: Oh, and run 'wlanconfig2-2 help' to get a list of commands (there is a CLI mode as well, as well as simple on and off commands).
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=164802\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

I tried wlanconfig2 but it was not successful for me, it showed me as connected but there was no dns, I had put my dns server in the resolv.conf but still no net.

Looks like I am going to beta1 with pdaxqtrom or angstrom or....I wish something would just work.

Ok I now have r197+sp8 on my C860, but.....

I cannot get my cf wifi(dcf-660w) setup, no settings are applied/kept.  This makes my Zaurus next to useless for my purposes.

Can anyone help me?

Thanks in advance,

Hi,

when I first installed R197, SP8 was already available, so I haven't tried another combination. Here is howto install:

I already had R121 with uboot installed, so I didn't have to reinstall uboot. But that's what you should have to do first.
Make NAND backup.
Go into "emergency boot" by disconnecting all power sources + battery and holding "OK" for some time while plugging power back in.
Insert cf/sd card, go to /mnt/[card|cf]/ and run ./install .
Install SP8 (ipkg install)
Install what you need (I wrote a script to install things like rox, gnumeric, kopi/kapi, wpa_supplicant, firefox, wellenreiter, ...)

I use gnumeric, kapi/kopi, firefox and mplayer a lot and I found no real problems in R197, it's stable for me.

Cheers, Jan

I am not sure what to do with updating uboot, I cannot seem to find anything newer than what is installed, the uboot with r197.

Anything I am missing?

Hi,

I never tried beta1 on my C860 so I don't know if R197 is better but everything I need works fine on R197 (with SP8).

I think it is worth trying.

Cheers, Jan

Should I use u-boot or just leave the boot loader as is?[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=164721\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
To install R197, you have to use u-boot.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=164722\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Thanks, I just read it in the install guide!

Now where do I find uboot files for C860.......OK found.

Make a NAND backup first. Then it's relatively easy to restore if you change your mind (I can't find the relevent restore info right now, but it's there). HTH

Ok I backed up the flash.
Should I use u-boot or just leave the boot loader as is?

dancing pointer, yeppaa

did you ever try to write something with xstroke or sketchbook? Didn't you feel hard to click on buttons?[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=164672\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
No, I guess I never did. My Z use is limited to reading ebooks & enews & watching videos. Not much touchscreen activity required for that .
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=164674\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Well thanks for the heads up, but how much of an issue is it?
If my C860 becomes unusable I will be as sick as a parrot.  I set it up ages ago and it has been so long that I cannot remember what I did!
