General Discussion / USB/car charger question
« on: September 22, 2004, 11:38:07 am »
I wouldn't use that charger.  All it takes is a little too much & you could damage your Zaurus.

I made the mistake of accidentally hooking up my Radio shack charger with the switch @ 6v & it blew the little fuse on the circuit board inside.  I had to send it in for service to Sharp.  I think any more than 5.3 volts could be bad.

Do a search thru this board for "charging"  & you should find some more info.

Some of the IPAQ car chargers should work, just make sure they have the right connector & put out 4.8-5.2V, preferably 5-5.2V.

I like ZEditor, it's intended to be a light weight editor.

General Discussion / connecting via WiFi to Linux
« on: August 03, 2004, 12:54:24 am »
I'd like a bit of help.  I've got a working connection to my PC with Mandrake 9.0, via wifi.  I can surf the net & such, that was easy, using linuxconf.  Now I'd like to be able to log in to the Linux pc & have a script run unison to sync KDE Pim/pi to the desktop.

I've been searching for a while now & can't seem to find all of the right info.  Can anyone point me to some How-To's??

I've got my Z set up with a static IP, ADHOC WIFI network, no WEP, no PROXY to my Mandrake 9.0 PC.  On the PC I just ran the Internet connection sharing wizard, which I believe set up port forwarding & masquerading so I can surf the net with the Z now.   Do some searching around, you'll find the answer.

Sharp ROMs / Installing Cacko ROM for 5500
« on: July 17, 2004, 03:13:22 am »
There is a thread about the Cacko modified kernel for 64-0 memory layout on the 5500 .

Here is the ROM you have to flash before flashing the new kernel, 2nd itme down,

http://www.zaurususergroup.com/modules.php...download&sid=30

Here is the updated kernel, the 2nd item is for /home on SD,

http://www.zaurususergroup.com/modules.php...download&sid=38

Relevant thread,

https://www.oesf.org/forums/inde...3&hl=cacko+5500

Make sure you read ALL of the instructions before you do the flashing.  As with flashing any ROM or kernel, missing a step or messing it up will cause a problem, & could brick your Zaurus.

General Discussion / Power
« on: July 08, 2004, 10:27:25 am »
Dude, try searching the board here, many users have found/made external battery packs, car power adapters, wall warts, etc.

Also the battery in the Z is good for about 1000 charges, which would be about 3 years if recharged only once a day.  Yours may be wearing out.  New ones are a bit pricey but you have to have one in the Z to use it.

General Discussion / PIM user notes, practices, opinions?
« on: July 08, 2004, 10:22:52 am »
KOpi has a Windows version that does sync with the Zaurus.. It has much better alarms & IMO is much better than the Sharp Calendar app.

Zautrix, the main programer/deveolper doing the porting & improving of KOrganizer for the Zaurus is also working on KAddressbook & is improving the OPIE Mail app to all function together.

Search this board for KDE/PIMpi or KOpi or KApi, there are several threads on these subjects, with links to the download pages for these programs
