General Discussion / Killefiz Back To Life?

I accidentially clicked on my Killefiz bookmark - and there are some new packages that came up to the front page. About two in August and Sept. and one from 1st October.

Since I assume that the database needs manual verification, there is somebody who has resumed this effort. Great! And I think there would be enough volunteers out there to support that task but nobody seems to know how to do that.

I've just stumbled accross this and it might well be usefull - sorry if it's been mentioned before.

Looks like we have the ability to access any ext2/3 fs within wondoze, mighty handy transfering stuff to sd/mmc/cf cards formated that way.

Okay it looks like the community feeling is to work upon the current site - I can't say I think the same way - I think we need to think about what it should include at the start rather than adding stuff on later on - but I'm very keen to help out improve the current site.

Dz: Is there any chance I could have a look at the source - the SourceForge site says there aren't any files for the project.

Thanks
Allan

I absolutely completely dont agree - despite the best intent - ELSI was never a useable alternative to Killefiz.
It got completely lost in latest releases as opposed to the database of available app's for whatever platform. It was also much too PDAXROM orientated. Many of us dont want to use pdaxrom and wait for 60 seconds for an app' to appear.

Go back to the easy to use killefiz format and we'll all be very much more happy.

(I did strongly voice this when the format was first changed!)

When buying from Trisoft you get  a world adapter, which will work just fine with a physical adapter to plug in your silly UK sockets.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=68362\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

I'd have to agree that UK plugs & sockets are somewhat larger and more cumbersome than those in the U.S. and for that matter many other parts of Europe - however the UK earth (ground) is not bonded to the neg line, which is the case in U.S. & also some European countries, this is in-turn often spiked into the mud. (lol)

Yikes - that's effectively a single line AC power feed with a return that's connected to the metal cases of many domestic appliances and the mud!
Considering that power will follow least path of resistance, and that the neg line might potentialy fail or dry up ........
Now who's silly ;-)

General Discussion / Click here to request SKYPE for the Zaurus
« on: February 19, 2005, 07:25:50 pm »
Kphone works great for me on C760 with wifi - but we do have our own network of Asterisk servers and I use 2mb broadband.
Also IAXphone for zaurus is very useable, although again you need an Asterisk gateway to connect to.

The trouble with Skype is that it's tied into the Skype 'Kazaa' like peer to peer service. Skype can use your PC/device as a super node and pass it's voip traffic through your system - there-by using your bandwidth unknown to you. Also you can't tailor Skype to use any other voip gateways that you might want to use.

It's a very popular product and there's no doubt that voip is the future for voice communications but many Universities and large Co's have banned Skype because it leeches onto their servers using them as switching nodes & hacks huge chunks out of their bandwidth.

Plenty of discussion on the subject here:

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Is It My C760
« on: February 08, 2005, 10:00:43 pm »
Sorry to anybody on this forum but I just cant see/cut it with pdaxrom. Ok running x on a pda (especially with a linux kernel) is a cool idea, but I've tried most pdaxrom options and the lag is unbearable.

It's just unusable for me. Infact it's embarassingly slow.
Damm is it slow.

Roms built for the Z as a PDA are soooooooo much quicker, Why not respect the fact that Z is an amazing PDA product , the cpu is teeny weeny and wont deliver x-server PC/Server Desktop/server requirements to the level that pdaxrom imply.

Don't offer PDAXROM as an alternative to a PDA rom, It just isn't.
Fast access to anything isn't possible with PDAXROM.

I feel that PDAXROM developers are trying to overbear a vunerable & well established Zaurus community that want a fast and reliable PDA that runs on linux.

The new Zaurus Software index was swamped wit Xrom untested and unrealable releases.

Keep ZUG open minded and dont be bullied by pdaxrom propagander.

General Discussion / Elsi - Was Killefiz.de/zaurus A Better Format?
« on: February 08, 2005, 09:02:19 pm »
My point - with huge respect for all the work & commitment to the new sites - is that when I go to the new ELSI site on my 760 it's not so easy to get an instant view of all latest available app's in a single line format - I'm a sad old git but it was great for me to take a quick glimpse from work to see if there was any new updates.

Not so instant now.

General Discussion / Elsi - Was Killefiz.de/zaurus A Better Format?
« on: February 08, 2005, 06:32:44 pm »
Being well aware and 'MUCH' appreciative of the hard graft that has been put into the new ZUG and ESLI sites I'm expecting a broadside salvo for this one, but for some reason I honestly find the format of Killefiz much nicer than ELSI.

I really don't want to upset anybody but I'd much rather go to the old site than the new one for available Z app's.

Maybe I'm just getting old - is it just me.

Yea but no but yea but --- Pocket workstation is freekin 'orrible

I use Debian all the time (and adore it). PW represents poor example of Debians cababilities and imho really isn't suitable for the Z x-factor.

Or maybe I just couldn't get it right

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Does pdaX rom need
« on: June 04, 2004, 08:19:37 pm »
Hi thanks for your reply.
I didn\'t spot openssh - my mistake- is that the client & server? I\'m an old supporter of kismet and have it running in tkcrom (C760/860) and on 5500, also running in debian with festival - thats a blast, but for a small device Wellenreiter is superb & in my opinion better than kismet.
