Software / 5600 - Q Word Game - Replace Dictionary?
« on: January 27, 2006, 06:47:40 pm »

How does one replace the crapy dictionary that comes with Q- Word game on the 5600?

The damn thing pulls words out of ether like "amyl" and "agog", but doesn't recognize "stone".  I would like to replace the file, if at all possible...
It would take some effort to do so, but if you are so inclined, the last two links in my reply in this thread give info on the file format:

5x00 General discussions / Folding Paper Cradle

A couple of years ago I remember someone making a templeate for a cradle made out of stiff paper.  If anyone remembers it or saved the template please let me know thanks.  I now have a use for a travel cradle that does not take up much space.

I don't know if it's the one you're thinking of, but here is a paper cradle for a CLIE: (via Babelfish)

Personally, I find that a thin USB cable is all that is needed while traveling -- I don't see the need to have the Zaurus stand up while syncing.

5x00 General discussions / Syncing Zaurus Sl-5500 With Yahoo?

It's also possible that newer versions of Yahoo! might not see the Zaurus, but, then again, I believe that the method that Intellisync employs to discover which conduits are available is standardized.

Well, I checked on another computer where I had Yahoo! Intellisync 2.11.15.0 installed and that version does not recognize the Zaurus conduit.  So, I guess that you need to stick with one of the older Yahoo! 1.x versions, not 2.x, in order to use it with Zaurus.

I have a copy of the installer for Yahoo! Intellisync 1.0.1.12.  However, it is about 5MB, so it is probably too big to Email.  I couldn't figure out how to upload it to this site  -- if anyone knows how, please tell me.

Are you speaking from experience on this issue?

Yes.

I have not yet been able to get Yahoo's Intellisync to recognize the Zaurus "conduit."  It will only accept data syncing from Outlook, Lotus, ACT, Palm or Pocket PC.  Unless there is some way to trick it to see the SL conduit, I don't see how this is possible.  Could you please elaborate?  I would really appreciate knowing how to do this.  So far I'm double entering everything in Yahoo and Zaurus, which is really getting ridiculous.

I use to sync my Zaurus to Yahoo! all of the time, using Sharp's Intellisync that came with the SL-5500 (2.x ROM) and Yahoo! Intellisync (I'm currently using Version 1.0.1.12).  As I said, it was a matter of installing the Zaurus Intellisync first, then Yahoo!.

Run Intellisync for Yahoo!, and click on "Setup".  Click "Application Settings".  Then for each of the Applications, click on "Choose" and select "Zaurus" from the "Available Translators".  Also, I use USB/TCP-IP rather than USB/I-O, but that really shouldn't have any impact on Intellisync's ability to find the Zaurus conduit.

I haven't actually tested it with the new Sharp Intellisync for the 3.0 ROM.  However, I believe that Sharp only modified the backend (Zaurus) side of things for their proprietary DTM support, so it should still work with Yahoo!'s Intellisync.  The Zaurus 3.0 does still show up in Yahoo!'s Intellisync.

It's also possible that newer versions of Yahoo! might not see the Zaurus, but, then again, I believe that the method that Intellisync employs to discover which conduits are available is standardized.

Intellisync works for syncing between "conduits", without the need for an application like Outlook.  If you install Sharp's version of Intellisync for Zaurus, then install Yahoo!'s Intellisync, Yahoo!'s Intellisync will recognize the Zaurus conduit and will sync with it (unfortunately, Sharp's version doesn't recognize other conduits).  However,  Intellisync is a Windows product so it doesn't work under Linux

I don't know of a Linux-based solution for syncing with Yahoo!, since they seem to ignore both Linux and the Zaurus.

Software / Applet Icon Order

Craig Graham's SubApplet applet allows you to configure which applets are active and also change the ordering.  Otherwise, IIRC, you have to rename the applets, since Qtopia displays them alphabetically by default.

Sharp ROMs / Calendar Crashes On 3.10 / 5500

Any folder or file under /home/zaurus that is not owned by zaurus will cause calendar to crash when switching to month view - this is because the calendar puts a little pin for every file you have modified and marks the modified date on the calendar.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=91343\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

You can turn off this feature by Option > Link File > (SD or CF) in the calendar.  You'll obviously have to be in some view other than Month View to run the app & turn it off, or do it by editing /home/zaurus/Settings/DateBook.conf:
  enableCF = 1
  enableSD = 1
(change the 1 to 0 in each of the above lines).

I believe that you need to kill the process and restart the calendar app, if you have it fast-loaded, before it sees the config file change.

5x00 Hardware / Usb Charging Cable For Z5500
« on: August 15, 2005, 02:15:32 pm »
The USB port on a PC supplies only 0.5A, so it is not enough to power a fully discharged Zaurus.  In those instances, I've been able to charge my SL-5500 from a USB cable with the Zaurus turned off -- it charges at a much slower rate than it would with the Sharp-supplied (2A) charger.

With a partially discharged Zaurus (> ~50%), I've been able to keep the Zaurus turned on and bring it up to full charge off a USB cable.

I.e. I have a radio device with FCC approval id PIW632500516610 for the USA.
I went to the FCC website, but nothings comes up when I punch in this id. I guess there's something wrong I'm doing, what is the RIGHT way to search the FCC database?
BTW, the device name is "Dell Truemobile 350", it's a bluetooth module. FCC id is PIW632500516610.
[div align=\"right\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Are you using the current FCC ID lookup site? ([a href=\"https://gullfoss2.fcc.gov/prod/oet/cf/eas/reports/GenericSearch.cfm]FCC ID lookup[/url]).

It worked OK for me by putting the first three letters (PIW) in the first blank, then the rest (632500516610) in the second blank, as instructed   , and hitting "search".

5x00 Hardware / Compact Flash Wired Ethernet

I already have a CF Wifi Card for my SL-5500, but I'd like to get a wired CF ethernet adapter that will work with both my Zaurus and PocketPC.

Any suggestions on brands that are known to work well with the Zaurus?

I'm running the Sharp ROM 3.10.

TRENDnet TE-CF100 works for me after messing around a bit with the config file.  It is also the cheapest of all the units I've seen.

User Request for Applications / Reading Zaurus' Serial Number... How?

Is there a way to get the Zaurus SL-Cxxxx serial number by making a small application?

The diagnostic mode does show a serial number, so I guess it would be possible to get it somehow... Anyone ever tried?
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=87169\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

See if it shows up as the last line in the /proc/cpuinfo file.  There is a place for the serial number, but older Zaurus models put all zeros in that field.
