« on: April 03, 2006, 11:18:30 am »
Since I've got internal bluetooth and wi-fi modules working on my Zaurus, I no longer need CF cards, thus here it goes...

1. Socket Bluetooth CF card. Revision "F".

2. Symbol Spectrum24 802.11b CF card.

Both cards work great, $35/each plus shipping at your choice.

SIMpad forum / Modded Simpad Sl4 Is Looking For A New Owner

This is repost, since the original post seemed to be gone MIA. I think Simpad community is relatively small, so this forum might be the good place to post it. If it's against forum's rules, please let me know and I remove it then.

Hello,

I have an almost new (bought around last summer) Simpad SL-4 with all original box contents - documentations, power adapter, serial cable, etc.

It's running Opie and I was using it as a car GPS navigation device for which purpose it worked very well. It has Zroadmap installed and I was using my bluetooth-based GPS tranciever and US maps located on 128MB SD card.

The Simpad is very hacking-friendly device, and I modded it to add bluetooth and SD/MMC card slot, please see the following threads for more information:

https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=14822
https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=14262

It has a 128MB SD card right now.

It still has a few free GPIO pins available and plenty of space inside the case, so addtional hardware modifications could be possible.

I just realized that I didn't in last few months (and won't in near feature) have any time to play with it due to involvement with other projects, and thinking that it's a shame for such an interesting device to collect dust in my closet. I'd like it to find its new home in hands of a fellow forum member, rather than putting it off on EBay. So, if anyone if interested in it, please let me know.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Kernel Patch To Turn On Green Led
« on: October 18, 2005, 09:22:06 pm »
Here's a two-liner to have a green front LED turned on when PXA270-based Zaurus is not suspended. The main idea behind this is to mimic OBSD behavior. IMHO, it's quite handy to see whever Zaurus is suspended based on status of the front LED. Tested on C1K only, C3K/C3.1K use green LED as an indicator of HD activity, so I'm not sure if they would benefit from that patch.
You might want to change  CONFIG_ARCH_PXA_SPITZ to  CONFIG_ARCH_PXA_AKITA to make it compile on C1K only.

« on: October 08, 2005, 07:20:03 pm »
Sorry for stupid question, I'm not experienced in X windows api and openbox window manager... Is it possible to start up any application with its window maximazed? Either via passing a command line parameter or maybe using some helper application like kstart in KDE?

Off Topic forum / How To Look Up Information On Fcc Website Based On
« on: August 09, 2005, 12:08:41 pm »
I.e. I have a radio device with FCC approval id PIW632500516610 for the USA.
I went to the FCC website, but nothings comes up when I punch in this id. I guess there's something wrong I'm doing, what is the RIGHT way to search the FCC database?
BTW, the device name is "Dell Truemobile 350", it's a bluetooth module. FCC id is PIW632500516610.
Thanks,

Hardware Mods / Stuffing Serial Bluetooth Module Inside C1k Casing
« on: June 29, 2005, 01:04:10 pm »
Since I haven't yet read/seen any posts about success stories on the subj (except for someone who claimed he added a usb bt dongle, but didn't support it by any tech info/pics), I'm getting ready to perform a first surgery on my C1K. Time permitting, I hope to do it sometime next week (maybe on July 4th holiday weekend).

Here's a few thoughts I have on the subj:
- There's a ffuart wired up to a port on the back of the C1K (so-called sharp i/o port) that has all modem control lines. I'm leaving it as a last resort (if everything else fails), since I want to retain it for rs232 comm.
- There's a btuart in PXA270 that has CTS/RTS control lines, but it's unknown if Sharp traced it on PCB. I would guess that it would make sense to have it traced just in case, i.e. planning for future models with built-in BT, but with Sharp you never know...
- Well, it leaves us with stuart that is wired up to IRDA transmitter/diode, but doesn't have any control lines, so hardware flow control is not possible.

If btuart lines can't be traced, either rs232 or irda has to go. Personally, I don't use IRDA myself, so for me the choice is clear. But not having hardware flow control leaves us with a challange of fighting high interrupt latency of bloated Sharp's kernel to avoid fifo overruns. I took a look at Sharp's serial driver, and as usual with sharp it's ... well, not good. I had troubles with overruns even at modest speeds. Now, the good thing is that it;s Intel PXA270, not Sharp's proprientary hardware, so full tech specs are available. I spend a few hours on  "unsharp'ing" the serial driver, so now it seems to run ok. I tested it @ 460800 and not getting overruns anymore. I still need to test it @ 921600 and implement suspend/resume hooks, maybe add some hooks to front LED to show activity, etc.

Anyway, just thought it would be useful to have a dedicated thread where we all can share tech info and success stories. Please feel free to contribute... and I'll update you on status of my surgery.

I think I've heard someone was succesfully using built-in serial port (/dev/ttyS0) found on Sharp I/O connector on C3K, but how about one on C1K? I'm assuming that hardware is the same so it should work on C1K too, but I'm having troubles with it @ 115200 8E1. I'm getting zillion of frame errors and parity errors. Unfortunately, I don't have a scope to check the signal. I've tried both SerialIO's cable (which has a built-in rs232 tranciever) and direct cross-over connection assuming it;s TTL voltage levels (~ +3.3V) as on SL-5500. Still doesn;t work.

I've even replaced the ucking fugly "dirty hack" sharp's serial driver with a more sane PXA serial driver from RMK/Intel kernel for PXA27X. Still no dice. The same driver works just fine with /dev/ttyS3 which is a CF-serial card with OX950 uart (after patching it to correctly calculate baud rate). So it really looks like some sort of hardware issue. Maybe I'm missing something?

Anyone had some luck with getting it work? If so, could you please post what was the cable used, the equipment on the other end and the exact port settings?

For Sale / Wanted / A Couple Of 802.11b Cards For Sale
« on: May 10, 2005, 09:34:24 pm »
I have plenty of hardware toys, and since I'm thinking of starting another project, I'd like to sell a couple of wireless cards which I didn't use very often to recoup some of the money to fund the project, so here it goes:

- Generic Prism3 802.11b USB1.1 wireless dongle. It works with prism2_usb driver from linux-wlan-ng project, and should also work with wi driver in OpenBSD (although I didn't have a chance to test it under OpenBSD) should you install OpenBSD on your C1K/C3K. It has a primary fw 1.1.4 and station firmware 1.8.3. Could be used on SL-6000 and C1K/C3K. Please note, that with C1K/C3K it will require a powered hub, since C1K/C3K can't provide sufficient power on usb bus. Also, note that you still need a cable to connect it to mini-A usb connector on the Zaurus.

- Pretec Prism2.5 CF type I card. I've upgraded firmware to primary 1.1.1 and station 1.7.4 to fix hardware encryption problem. Card works fine with hostapi driver, should also work with prism2_cs from limux-wlan-ng project and orinoco driver. Nothing much to say about this card, it's rather small and it works. Here's a thread about it in case you need more info: https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=3572

- Pretec Bluetooth 1.1 CF type I card. That's the old  BT2000E model which is well-supported by BlueZ and Affix.

Each card is $20. Shipping within continental US is at flat rate $5 for USPS Priority. Outside of continental US - at actual rate at your expense. I don't think I have original boxes and packing materials, I'll try to locate windoze drivers (in case you need them), but no guarantee. It's for Zaurus, afterall.

Any questions? Please don't hesitate to ask.
