Software / Getting Wellenreiter to function on OZ 3.3.5
« on: May 04, 2004, 03:21:56 am »
I played around w/ getting Wellenreiter to work on 3.5.5.  I had the exact same problem.  Sooo, I downloaded the 3.5.6 version and it worked right off.  I\'d suggest doing that, it also seems to be recognizing my cards better than 3.5.5.

General Discussion / zaurus piggybacking through win98?
« on: April 24, 2004, 09:39:29 pm »
thanks for the reply doc.  Yes, I\'m able to connect over USB already.  I\'m trying to connect through the wireless card though, then be \"re-routed\" to the internet.   So in the same manner than I would be able to share/get internet access through USB, I would like to get it through the wireless card instead.

General Discussion / zaurus piggybacking through win98?

I\'ll do my best to describe what I\'m trying to do.  I have a SL-5500 and I am running win98 on a somewhat crappy computer that is using DSL.  I recently was given a Linksys wirless-G card and I was wondering if there is anyway to set it up so that my wireless card and zaurus communicate (ad-hoc?), thus creating a connection between the zaurus and 98.  Then from there be able to use the internet through the ethernet card?  It seems like I should be able to get it to work, but I haven\'t been able to figure it out up until now.  Any ideas? pointers? programs that might help me out?  Thanks a bunch!

Security and Networking / wired and wireless card?

my apologies, yes, I\'m running win 98.  Thanks for your help.  I\'ll browse around a bit longer.

Security and Networking / wired and wireless card?

Is it possible to have a wired ethernet card w/ DSL coming into my computer, while at the same time, having a wireless linksys card broadcasting both internet and sharing to my Zaurus w/ an ad-hoc network??? (longest sentence ever)  I was just curious.  I\'m having problems getting it to work \"straight out of the box\".

Very cool.  I hadn\'t heard of howl/rendezvous before.  It looks very interesting.  I\'ll have to play around with it a little later.  Thanks for moving slightly off topic   helped me out.

Mac Issues / Mounting w/ smbmount
« on: March 01, 2004, 07:12:24 pm »
I\'m just curious about how I\'d go about mounting on a OS X system w/ my SL-5500.  I\'m aware that OSX runs unix in the background, so I\'m assuming it\'s rather similar to mounting onto a linux machine.  Anyhow, has anyone done this and possibly give me some direction?

That sounds easy enough.  I\'ll give a try later on if I go over there.  So, I suppose that if I could telnet into another host, couldn\'t I mount to him as well.  Using smbmount and after editing my /etc/hosts file?   Mainly, we were just playing around with ideas about what we could do between to Zaurii and for the experience.  Also, he has a few files that I wanted to just transfer over to him that way as opposed to infared (because it\'s mad slow).

That would be pretty sweet to port over a couple games.  Perhaps I\'ll have to look into it.  We do have a wireless network available to us, so maybe I can set up the game on the server.

You could put the server in the room and have it broadcast w/out anyone knowing  hehe.

Thanks for the suggestions guest and lardman.  I think you\'re right lardman.  For some reason, I didn\'t think about the ad-hoc option.  I\'ll give that a try later on and let people know what happens.

I\'m just curious if it\'s possible to connect one Zaurus to another without going through a wireless router or what not.  I\'m using a SL-5500 and the other Z is the same.  We both have smbmount installed and I\'m assuming I would use that along w/ setting up something in /etc/hosts, but I don\'t exactly know how to go about it or if it\'s even possible.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks!

5x00 Hardware / Netgear card is only half working.
« on: February 26, 2004, 01:57:15 pm »
Hi all,
I just had a quick question. My friend just bought a SL-5500 and it came with a Netgear MA701 card, which is the card I have. The deal is, I installed Kismet on their Z and the card will pick up networks. However, when I try to browse the web it won\'t find anything. If I switch their card out for mine, it works fine.

I imagine that it\'s nothing anyone can help with. However, at the same time I was just confused about the whole \"it sees networks w/ Kismet, but can\'t browse the web thing\".

General Discussion / Invalid SSID character
« on: February 02, 2004, 03:53:10 am »
Hello, I own a SL-5500 w/ the original Sharp ROM in it (I don\'t have a flash card or I\'d go to OZ).  Anyhow, I am having a problem connecting to any wireless network with odd characters in it.  Such as a single quote (\') or a space even.   It gives me an error.  How exactly would you go about connecting to a network with spaces in the SSID?

General Discussion / file-3.26 install?
« on: January 20, 2004, 05:14:15 am »
Many thanks lardman.  That cleared things up.  I had tried /bin, /root/bin, /sbin, but they kept giving me :read-only errors.  So I hate to have to ask such questions, but at least I won\'t have any problems like this again now that I understand where the files can be placed to make them globally executable.
Thanks again!

General Discussion / file-3.26 install?
« on: January 19, 2004, 07:23:09 pm »
I\'m fairly new to the linux(zaurus) operating system.  As in, I know all of the basic commands and can get around the command line easily, but I\'m slightly confused about the structure/installation of programs.  I recently downloaded the file-3.26 ipkg and when I unpacked it in a temporary folder, it contains 5 files.  The file and magic executables, two html/man pages, and one installation text file.  The installation text files says:
File-3.26 for Zaurus
1) - mv - \'file\' into your path
2) - mv - \'magic\' somewhere like /mnt/card/usr/share
3) - ln -s <path>/magic /usr/share/magic

Now, obviously I understand what the text file is saying, so here is where my confusion lies:

In #1, what is \"my path\"?  Is this refering to the directory that I\'m in? (~/Applications/file-3.26) or somewhere else?

For #2, first off, /mnt/card/usr/share does not exist.  The only share directory that exists is /home/root/usr/share, so I\'m assuming that is the directory I should mv to.  However, why do I do this?

Lastly, #3, I guess my confusion about this one will be reconciled when I understand the first two.

I appreciate your help and I\'m rather embarrased to even be asking this, because it seems like such an elementary question, but I\'ve not been able to find very good documentation to help me understand installation structure/howto.  Thanks again!
