Zaurus - pdaXrom / Unclutter
« on: April 13, 2007, 08:12:44 am »
Hi all,

Just wanted to say that if you install unclutter from meanie's post here (

if has problems in fluxbox, if you use keyboard navigation on the menu it will cause navigation to mess up.

Er, just a thought but if it doesn't work when you edit the preferences file by hand, I'm not sure if using a config tool to do it for you will make things any better for you!

And thanks for your packages too capn! I've tried many of your ipks compiled for r121 and not had much joy so I tend to wait for the beta3 variannt

And by usable I just meant a working app that doesn't crash (unfortunately it does atm) and can be used instead of my usual browser

Thanks meanie for your packages of osb browser. Here are some observations:

- Load time is very quick and the the program is very responsive unlike firefox which `thinks` everytime you click.

- Tested my website which uses quite advanced css & javascript and it renders it PERFECTLY! this made me very happy

- Main problem- seems to segfault on some pages, was unable to do a google search

- Some pages the text will not appear until you scroll down and back up effectively refreshing that section.

I'm really excited about this, even with what I have now I can do page styling and javascript on pdaxrom without the pain of using firefox! wicked!!

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Icewm Versions, What Makes Them So Different?
« on: April 11, 2007, 06:17:32 pm »
the difference between the two is simply this: they were compiled by different people likely with different options. I have never used the more recent package as the older one (with icewm-pdaxrom) always worked fine for me.

You should only need to modify the files in your home directory (/root/.icewm ?) these settings will override the similar files in /usr

The initial state of each option is commented out, but it shows the default behaviour - if you want to make a change uncomment the line and change the value. To have this take effect choose logout -> restart icewm.

hope this helps

PS. It should read "weexpc" not weexbox, sorry my brain is polluted with xbox software naming conventions  and anyway it was only included for completeness - anyone running it is probably too scared to vote!!!

Thanks for voting fellas (and lass)

Well it's interesting because the majority appear to be running beta3 or ii13(which is really beta3 souped up), and only TWO people voted for r121 which I thought would be much more popular.

I have been tempted to upgrade from beta3 for some time, for the single reason of improved speed in the newer kernel but have not because my current setup has had too much time invested in making it work as I like it.

Look forward to hearing about the new release, hopefully it will be the release to rule them all.

Hi folks, I thought it might be interesting to see a crossection of pdaxrom usage as I've not seen a poll here for a long time.

If you have more than one zaurus with pdaxrom then please choose the version you use more often.

afaik all those config tools are just a frontend to the existing config options - you can edit the icewm config files to change the same things, it's really not that hard to try yourself, just back up before you make the changes and you can't go wrong.

You'll have to learn how to compile if you want to use that program, unless some nice person here was to do it for you.

btw I can't open those images, I think it's a bug in the forum page

Great to see another browser alternative for pdaxrom - firefox is so slooooow. Hope this turns into a nice usable ipk at some point

Really nice page holo, there's a couple of scumm games I've not played/completed that I'm saving for a rainy day - I'll give your tips a try when I get to play them.

Have you tested all of the games listed on the pdaxrom version?

The official documentation should do you fine, I don't know of such a zaurus - specific help page except this one! Post what it is you want to do and we'll try and help.

Regarding your keymapping issues, you need to learn how to use xmodmap properly and you can edit your file yourself. Use the command 'xev' to find a keycode and xmodmap to map it to a key function - there are many threads on this.

The icewm preferences file is very well commented telling you what each option does - you need to have a play around and find what settings best suit you, it takes a while but once you get used to it, it's a walk in the park!

bear in mind you are using r121... rc stands for release candidate which this is not, r121 is the subversion revision number.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Silkscreen Does Not Work Under Pdaxrom On Sl-c1000
« on: April 03, 2007, 10:30:19 am »
I've tried the packages in Post #3 and got the screen keys working (C1000@Beta3). That's great.

But there is one (small) issue with the Calendar (XF86LaunchA) and the "Home" screen key (XF86Launch0) under Rox.

In Rox desktop, when setting keyboard shortcuts (right click desktop icon --> Edit items --> keyboard shortcut), the Calendar key is detected as "Control + XF86LaunchA) and the "Home" screen key "Control + XF86Launch0". So I cannot assign these two keys as shortcuts.T
The other keys seem to work fine.
xev also gives the correct keysym values for all keys.

What is the cause of this?

Try the ipk's that from post #14 - these have been updated and work fine for me on the C3200
