5x00 General discussions / Can Only Sync From Cradle

My 5500 froze on me and I had to remove the batteries to reboot the durned thing. Around this time I also had to reinstall Windows on my desktop box. Yeah it was a long week.

Anyway I have my desktop software and synch software reinstalled but I can only successfully sync using the button on the cradle.

I could live with this but I can't use backup/restore or Zaurus File Transfer.

Any ideas? I'm using the Sharp Rom 3.10

(Reposted as I posted this in the wrong forum)

I have a 5500 running the Sharp 3.10 ROM. I installed the Qazoo IM client which is working well. When I am running it and get an email in my Yahoo mail account I get a beep and the email light on the front of the Z starts to blink. Trouble is I don't know how to turn this off. Not a big deal but still...

How do I turn this light off? I've searched this forum and the web and don't see a reference to this.

I don't use the email app on the Z, by the way, but hit the Yahoo site to get my mail.

General Discussion / Gaim won't launch

Hey there.

Just installed GAIM using the instructions from this page

I have checked that I have all the packages listed at the bottom of the page that are required.  (I only installed libgaim-protocol-yahoo as I only plan to use it with YM at the moment.)

When I attempt to launch the app by clicking on the Gaim icon the icon changes state and I get an hourglass at the bottom of my Zaurus screen but Gaim doesn't launch.

I even tried rebooting my Z but still no luck.

Oh, I have a 5500 with the Sharp 3.10 ROM.

General Discussion / How to get Wireless CF cards to work

This may belong in the 'newbie' forum.

I just got a Netgear MA701 card from a friend and I want to get it working with my 5500 running the Sharp Rom 3.10.

What I'm looking for is step-by-step instructions on how to do this.  Now I've looked around and found a few web pages with info but I'm still not confident about what I'm doing and haven't yet been successful.

Is anyone aware of an idiot-proof resource that explains how to set this up (and WHY each step is important?)

Something written for someone who's new to Linux and the Zaurus and doesn't know their IwConfig from their Kismet.

Windows Issues / Synch problems: can\'t find palm desktop data file

I\'ve got a 5500 running 3.10 ROM. When I attempt to synch to my Palm desktop (as I\'d done previously before having to reinstall my Windows OS) I get the following message.

Could not find a palm desktop data file. After closing this message  
box you will need to open the palm desktop application and then  
close it again before re-running the synchronization.

I am using a newer version of the Palm Desktop than I had previously, which is 4.1.4.

The tells me to open and then close Palm Desktop and try to synch again. No luck doing that.

I am able to use Zaurus File Transfer to move files to my Z. I just can\'t synch.

Any ideas folks?

Software / Java on the Z

I\'ve done some digging through these forums and have found some info about running Java apps on the Z.  I still have questions.

A helpful thread on this site pointed me to this page with info about how to compile a simple java app, transfer it to your Z and run it there.

Using my terminal app I navigate to the app I\'ve created and I run evm (Appname) but get the message \"evm: command not found\". The app I\'m trying to run is the simple one, copied and pasted from the last link listed.

According to the sun site above...

The Zaurus comes with a PersonalJava runtime environment already installed, Jeode from Insignia Solutions. At the command line, evm invokes the Jeode virtual machine.

Jeode does seem to be installed, at least it shows up when I look at my System Info.

I\'m running the Sharp Rom version 3.10 on a 5500.  What am I missing?

Software / Where to download Hancom Word and Sheet?

Newbie here.

I accidentally reset my Z and need to reinstall my apps. Where can I go to download Hancom Word and Sheet?

The link on this site is to the Hancom site which refers you to the Sharp site which, as far as I can tell, doesn\'t offer these for download.

The install disk I have that came with my Z has a pdf of the manual for these apps but doesn\'t actually contain the apps themselves(!!).

What gives?

Software / memo app to sync with Palm desktop?

Sorry if this has been asked before. I\'ve searched a bit and not found the answer.

Is there a free app similar to the Palm \'memo\' application that will sync with the Palm desktop?

If not a free one what are folks recommendations? IQnotes looks interesting but I\'ll bet it doesn\'t sync with the Palm desktop. tkcMemo looks pretty good also but the userguide doesn\'t specify if it syncs with Palm desktop.

Or is Intellisync going to be the hurdle here in terms of syncing with the Palm desktop.

Windows Issues / \'New\' 5500. Can\'t sync. Help!

OK, picked up a used 5500 from Ebay. Have attempted to install/uninstall/reinstall Qtopia and Intellisync and driver over and over. It seems my Z doesn\'t even connect to the computer. It says \"communicating\" and then after a few minutes of trying I get the message... \"PC-Link Error occured. Please confirm the connection.\"

I\'m using Win2K professional.

I\'ve attempted various USB ports, both powered hub and directly to the back of the computer.

I\'d sure like to play with my new toy but am extremely frustrated at this point. Any idea what to look for?

Being a used device I guess it could be the Z itself, or the cradle. I still think it\'s a software issue.

I\'m using USB - I/O (default). What should my hostname and USB IP be set to?

My ROM version is 3.1.0.

Help this newbie, please!
