Hi,
Quote
the mebius muramasa (named after a famous sword maker in Japan) was the king of the ultraportables.
"muramasa" is simply the word for the famous japanese
swords the samurai where fighting with.

it wasn't in production long, and sadly didn't get the hardware upgrades to justify the extraordinarily high price, and you were stuck with 802.11b
That's right. But if you look for a real beautiful piece of hardware,
you should get your hands on one.
We had one for testing a year or so ago. It was impressive.
Brilliant screen (even if you need a good pair of glasses on
full resolution) and it's the right device if you want to see
some eyes popping out if you put it on the table while you're
in a boring meeting

Accessories / Ea-bl06 Battery In The Uk?
« on: January 22, 2007, 01:29:44 pm »
Hi -G-,

getting an original Sharp EA-BL06 will be difficult.
It's not that they don't officially produce them anymore,
but they want a 100+ order, with a production delay of
4 months. We did this last in early 2006 and then
switched to a 3rd party manufacturer.

So we can offer the Rowa R-EA-BL06 with 100mAh higher
capacity than the original one.

You will find these in our shop (will be available back on
stock in max. 14 days). If you want to issue an order,
please mail us, so we can talk about shipping via
postal service for a few euros instead of making an
expensive UPS package for a small battery.

C1000/3x00 Hardware / Harddisk Upgrade/replacement? - [replaced!]
« on: January 22, 2007, 09:04:11 am »
markpmc,
Quote
but i was really hoping that trisoft or streamline offered the service.

we will not offer to replace the microdrive with a CF card.
We tried it here with a SanDisk Ultra-II and the first card
lived less than one hour before it turned itself read-only...
Tried a second card and this was only running for 10 days.

Maybe we just got two bad cards in a row, but we were
also not impressed of the speed increase, so we don't see
the need to replace the harddisk with a flash memory.

But if your harddisk is faulty, there's no problem to replace
it with a new one.

General Discussion / Zaurus Out Of Production?
« on: January 14, 2007, 06:07:02 am »
Hi all,

@jochen-02
Quote
Why don't you sell them online?
sorry for the confusion. Internally we simply isolate
the website (the tons of html-pages with infos,
downloads etc.) and the shop (the dynamic system
where people can buy stuff).
So i just meant that you won't see the batteries if
you browse through trisoft.de, but if you click at
the "online shop" button, they're listed as "R-EA-BL06"
and "R-EA-BL11".

@HoloVector
Quote
Thanks Marc.  Once again you have the problem solved.    Are these these packs 1700mAh (like the EA-BL08) or 1800mAh (like the EA-BL11)?
Specification for the Rowa EA-BL06 is 1050 mAh.
So it's +100mAh compared to the original EA-BL06.

The Rowa EA-BL11 is 1800 mAh. Identical specs to
the EA-BL11.

General Discussion / Zaurus Out Of Production?
« on: January 13, 2007, 03:22:48 pm »
Hi HoloVector,
Quote
Have you been able to source third party batteries that work out of the box without scraping the plastic around the terminals in order to get them to work with a Zaurus?
sure. The batteries from Rowa (the ones we're selling for
the SL-5500 and the SL-C series) will work right out of
the blisterpack (no box   ). No modding or cutting is
required (this would be poor quality from the maker).

They aren't actually on the website, but in our shop. We have
them for a year now and received no complaints.

General Discussion / Zaurus Out Of Production?
« on: January 12, 2007, 05:04:59 pm »
Hi all,
Quote
I would also think that support should last for one year after the very last new zaurus is sold, and new parts made available.
support and spare parts will be available for a very long period.
Sharp is well known for spare part support lasting 5+ years after
the last unit left the factory. Today we have still access to parts
for 10 year old devices, so we don't worry about it.

Also accessories and batteries (3rd party) will still be available.
Don't forget about the real big numbers of Zauri in Japan, so
there's a noticeable demand for batteries and options for the
next years.

General Discussion / Zaurus Out Of Production?
« on: January 12, 2007, 05:49:32 am »
Hi all,

yes, we have to confirm that Sharp pulled the plug out
of the Zaurus line.
No successor model is planned, and the end of production
will be early February.
For sure we'll continue with support, service and accessories
for the Zauri. Also there're interesting other products around,
so the fun with mobile Linux products is definitely not over.

C1000/3x00 Hardware / Sharp I/o Connector On C1000/3x00
« on: November 29, 2006, 02:22:28 pm »
Hi all,

just noticed that we forgot to answer one question:

Yes. There's some high-density, high-tech (haha) electronics
hidden in the cable (precisely, in the connector).
We assume, that the power consumption on the 3rd party
cables is a bit too high for the SL-C1x00 / SL-C3x00.
So the CE-170TS is the only one, that works.

C1000/3x00 Hardware / Sharp I/o Connector On C1000/3x00
« on: November 29, 2006, 01:54:59 pm »
Hi Armagon,
Quote
Good thread.  My first thought on seeing a related post was, "What?  The C1000 has a serial port!?"
yes, it has. Shame on us because of the "only JTAG" in the manual.
But the cover is soooooo fragile and the serial port will only work
with the 170TS cable, so we haven't changed it.
OK, i should add that the first SL-C3000 sample we got, had no
serial I/O functionality. So, at the day i wrote that statement for
the manual, it was correct. Looks like Sharp changed something
for the mass production.

Quote
I just want to be sure I understand correctly:  If I get a CE-170TS cable, I have physical access to the serial port, and the signals it provides are correct for use with a PC.  [Does anyone know how do the other cables differ?  Are they just straight connections, or are there electronics inside?  I imagine that I could get one of them and hack the connector off, but it seems like a lot of work since the original cable is still available.]
Do any of the current ROMs provide access to the serial port on a C1000 or C3x00?

Yes, you understood it correctly. No black magic, no vodoo needed (OK,
throwing three dead cats over the cemetery fence at midnight could
help a bit   ). Remove the cover, plug the CE-170TS in and you'll have
access to the serial port via /dev/ttyS0 .

Quote
PS.  Does the cable act as a null-modem cable?  Which is to say, if I plug it directly into my Z and into my PC, can I establish communications, or do I need a null-modem cable between the two of them?

The CE-170TS is a null-modem cable for use with a PC. If you want
to setup routers or do other strange things, you'll need a null-modem cable.

C1000/3x00 Hardware / Sharp I/o Connector On C1000/3x00
« on: November 29, 2006, 09:39:47 am »
Hi Scholbert,
Quote
in the last few weeks i followed some postings & tried to find out some facts about the sharp I/O connector on C1000/C3x00  devices (the port covered behind the plastic shield on the back). This led to some confusion   .
ok, let's maximize the confusion
I know, that we wrote in our startupguide that the connector is
for JTAG only now.
That's not the full truth. You're right, that there's also the serial
port functionality left. The funny thing is, that it only works well
with the original SHARP CE-170TS. We read a lot of reports that
the ZThinCableM/F and the ZBPDB9M/F fail.
The USB functionality is definitely not connected. Also the power
pins (used to charge the SL-C7x0/8x0 series) are now only connected
to testpoints.

Have a look at the pinout for the SL-C3x00 series here:

C1000/3x00 General discussions / 3200 Not Mounting All Volumes
« on: November 24, 2006, 04:33:04 am »
Hi Schnoober,
Quote
If it's so that I don't need any specific files in the hdd directories then why is it that trisoft's file offering exists at all?
this is, because if you use the SHARP Rom, the Zaurus will check
if these files exist on startup. If not, you'll get these nice "HDD
not initialized" messages.

Quote
This is great, but how do I get these files into the appropriate places?
These files are also contained in the SLC3200SYSPART.zip .
Copy these files on a CF card, boot your Zaurus to command line
using the "D"+"B" + PwrOn procedure.
Mount /hdd1 and /hdd2 manually. Insert the CF card and copy
the files to the right places (the CF card is accessable at /mnt/cf ).
Then reboot and everything should be fine.

Accessories / Buzzing Charger
« on: November 07, 2006, 04:43:15 am »
Hi Felipe,

the EA-70 charger starts to buzz if it's in standby.
During the charging process, it should be silent.
This is a known thing since the first SL-5500 series
with a ton of threads around ("help, my ac adapter
humms after it finished charging my Zaurus...").

So, i wouldn't worry about it (at least, if it's a
relatively quiet humming sound). In our office,
we have to place an ear directly on the charger
to hear it
