General Discussion / Biggest Reason Why Zaurus Gets Bricked?
« on: October 31, 2006, 01:13:12 pm »
Quote
Only collie (SL-5000/5500) can be bricked.[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=145231\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
And even a dead collie can be recovered with
writing a new bootloader via JTAG.

C1000/3x00 General discussions / What Is The Difference?
« on: October 25, 2006, 04:30:45 am »
Hi all,

and the most important thing:
A NAND backup is just a large and dumb memory dump,
but the regular backup is a simple tar-file.
So it's easy to access files from a regular backup if
you just give it a .tar extension, you may even extract
files on a Windows box.

C1000/3x00 General discussions / What's Up With The Price Jump?
« on: October 24, 2006, 06:05:28 am »
Hi all,

the price jump is just some "back to normal".
Also in Japan there're companies purchasing high
volumes for special prices and sell lots of them in
a bit gray channels.
So SHARP installed a new procedure a few months
ago. Now every dealer has to make a forecast for
every month. If they order more, they'll get a much
higher price. If they order a high quantity, SHARP
wants to have some informations what's happening
with the units.

The reason is simple: They want to keep the large
retail chains in Japan happy (who sell the Zauri for
much higher prices).

And it looks, like the new system now works and
shows the effect they wanted. It's harder for small
dealers now who order 1-10 units when they need
some, but it brings some more transparency for
all of us.

Cxx0 Hardware / Nand Flash Memory -> Bad Block Num=4
« on: October 13, 2006, 05:58:22 am »
Hi LuckyLuke,
Quote
can anyone help me ?
what's the problem ? What doesn't work ?
Having some bad blocks reported in the Diag is normal.
Even brand new units have some bad blocks. NAND chips
have mostly some defective areas and the controller will
handle this, so it's no reason to be worried.

Why are you trying to format the flash area ? Are you stuck
after a "went-wrong-Rom-installation" ?
Please give us some more informations.

General Discussion / Seitz 160mpixel Digital Camera
« on: September 28, 2006, 04:40:07 am »
Hi,

yep, we also had fun seeing these camera (and now we know
why they needed the Zauris _that_ urgently   ).

Quote
Nice - apparently Zaurus accessories can be even more expensive than ipod accessories...

No problem. The most expensive "official" Zaurus accessory
that we know of is:

-- drumroll --

The SHARP AR-507 with integrated "Zaurus interface" (no joke).
It's a relatively small printer for the Zaurus with just 102 kg and
60 x 70 x 77 cm for the main unit. With all accessories it's a real
bargain for round about 35000 EUR
Unfortunately no longer produced and we don't know if the newer
models even still support the Zaurus. But we had a good laugh
after we saw this in the service manuals.
Spec sheet here: AR-507 specs at SHARP USA
But you won't see the Zaurus interface in these specs, because
this option was only available in Japan.

C1000/3x00 Hardware / C3200 Has Constrain On Battery?
« on: September 04, 2006, 04:06:44 am »
Hi Chen,

we had a lot of reports from customers that some fake batteries
won't work with the SL-C1x00/3x00 series. So we can confirm
that they're not compatible for these Zauri (behaviour of these
batteries is the same like yours).

But we can confirm that the Rowa batteries (the EA-BL11 type)
works with the new Zauri.

With all the news about the Sony batteries in Dell and Apple
laptops in mind, we would strongly recommend not to use
batteries from unknown companies. Just a hint.

« on: September 01, 2006, 04:53:26 am »
Hi,
Quote
Thank you! By the way, following yours nickname, does Trisoft sell such a cards?
in principle: Yes.
The problem is, that we only have a limited quantity of these cards.
Actually there're only about 50 left, not enough to announce them
officially or put them on the website / shop.
If you're interested in one of these, simply drop us a mail.

The main problem with all CF WiFi cards is, that since July 1st the
new "RoHS" (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) directive took
effect.
(More information here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ROHS)
The big problem for the manufacturers is the lead-free production.
So all known producers stopped the production of CF cards but
don't provide a new model matching the RoHS requirements.
Only rest-stock imported before the deadline can be sold.
As far as we know, there's actually only one manufacturer left
with a RoHS conform product. We have a few samples here and
are now in contact with some programmers in the Zaurus
community to provide drivers for this new product.
We hope that we can announce the new card in a few weeks with
full driver support for the most used Roms.

This is just some "behind the scenes" information about the funny
problems we have to fight with every day

Marc Stephan
PS: Cross your fingers that we'll manage to get some fine Zaurus
drivers up and running because we really fell in love with the new
card. It's a beautiful slim device without the big antenna-thingy we
had on all the previous cards.

Hi,
Quote
Unfortunately, it's still not working.  I can't even turn the little guy on.  I follow the steps on that page exactly and nothing happens.  I'll keep trying, though... I'm not quite ready to give up, yet.
try the "special Zaurus Diag Vodoo":
Same procedure like trying to start the normal Diag, but use the
"FN"(!) + "D" + "M" keys.
Complete steps are in this thread:
https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showt...=19939&hl=vodoo

This should bring your Zaurus back to life.

Fingers crossed

Hi,

Turned out to be a corrupt zip, after all. ahppily on my way to a "stable" pdax setup.
oooops. Could you please confirm if it was a bad download or if our file
is corrupted ? I don't think so, because we have tons of downloads and
no complaints so far.

make sure you guys buy from conics or trisoft or both cuz they put this stuff out and its like free support for the community.
Good idea

Hi,
the Planex card is Prism3 based. So you need to update
the SHARP Rom (should also work with Cacko).
The needed IPKs are available in our download area:

C1000/3x00 Hardware / Zaurus C3100 And Monitor
« on: August 30, 2006, 08:49:44 am »
Hi all,
the IOData CFXGA card is a good solution and works like
a charm in all Zauri.

Unfortunately, the card is out of production since last year
and we took all the stock they had together with Streamlinecpus.
Actual count is: Only two cards are left on stock !
So, if you really want one of them, you shouldn't wait too
long

Cxx0 General discussions / C860 Wont Boot
« on: July 31, 2006, 05:09:22 am »
Hi Kelly,

i wouldn't worry too much about this.

It looks like you ran into the typical Zaurus-trap: Battery was
drained and "normal" boot will not start without a minimum
charge level.

It can take up to 15 minutes with the original charger (EA-70)
until a Zaurus with a fully discharged battery comes back to
life. And this is exactly what happened to you.

[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=136165\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
maybe you also have a CF card inserted ?
The restore process always checks the CF slot first.
Only (and only then) if there's no card inserted, the
SD slot will be checked for a card and file.
