Sharp ROMs / I Need The 3200 1.03jp Rom
« on: May 15, 2007, 04:47:44 am »
Hi bit_bucket,

we'll keep an eye on the next shipments for the 1.03 version.
But all last units came with 1.02 and they were freshly made...
Quote
On another note, why does Sharp not post the ROM's for these on their Japanese site, do they not want to support their user base.
The answer is simple: Sharp is not providing any NAND
backups because they don't even tell their users that
such thingys exist or that there is some DiagMenu.
Believe it or not, but our server logs show that our
startup guides and NAND-sets are very popular in Japan.
There're also a lot of mirrors and links from japanese Zaurus
sites to our docs and downloads.

Sharp sells the Zauri as enduser devices there. If it doesn't
work properly, they tell you to use the reset to shipping
state via the "OK"+PwrOn option. If this won't solve your
problem, you have to visit a Sharp service center...

Hi deluxe,
Quote
Aside from the fact the instructions are aimed at a sl-c860, is there any other particular reason you are so surprised it worked??
ummm, yes.
Because there was some change in the sync protocol between
the SL-C7x0/860 series and the SL-C1000/3x00 models.
And for this reason, we now have these ugly procedure with the
mix between the japanese sync software and the english version.

Looking at your sig, we see that you're working with the Cacko
Rom. So we guess, that Cacko still uses the "old" version from the
SL-C7x0/860 series.

So maybe, we're both right. And another thing learned: If someone
has trouble syncing, the needed software may depend on the used
Rom (Sharp or Cacko).

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Emergency
« on: May 14, 2007, 06:49:48 pm »
Again sorry guys, but i have to vent some pressure:

All you people creating funny Roms for Zaurus models !

PLEASE !
Don't even provide instructions for users how to install
your Rom.

PLEASE TAKE 30 FREAKING MINUTES AND POST SOME
HELPFUL TIPS ON YOUR WEBSITE HOW TO GET BACK !!!ONEELEVEN!!

We're real patient people here. But since half a year we
have about three emergency calls a day like "i installed
PdaXRom and now i won't get into the DiagMenu"...
Please don't get me wrong. This is no affront to the PdaXRom
team. We really appreciate your work and this was just
an example, but unfortunately the most common cry for
help.

We know, that you think that your Roms are the one and
only that everybody has to use.
But please, please, please, why don't you add some useful
info in your readme's how to get back to shipping state ?
It's just a few lines and can be copied from a lot of postings
here. No biggy, trust me !

We love to help users in trouble. But trouble increased a
few thousand percent with UBoot, overwriting the flash,
destroying the included Diag.

Do you really want us to update the startup guide ?
Yes, i know, you want

Believe me, just one more week and i'll add a section
"what to do if you f***ed up your Zaurus"...

Aaaargh. This kind of ranting is not really our style,
but we're really really unsatisfied with the actual situation.

Sorry Capn_Fish,

but

http://www.trisoft.de/download/C3200-2006-04-05-13-00.zip
won't help you anything if your NAND is messed up.
You need to get the NAND backup:
http://www.trisoft.de/download/SYSTC320.zip

And after a successful NAND restore, get some coffee,
maybe a tasty pizza, take a deep breath and get:
http://www.trisoft.de/download/SLC3200SYSPART.zip
Then restore the harddisk partitions with this file and you're
ready to mess your Zaurus up again

Have outlook installed on the PC, then go here:
http://www.trisoft.de/en_c860winxpsetup.htm
and follow the instructions
hmmmm. I would be very surprised, if this works...

But we're all learning something more every day

Hi Zauri,
Quote
...Is this the www.trisoft.de website?...
what else ?

OK, here you go:
Get (and read) the PDF-manual on this page:
SL-C3200 startup guide

There's a reference to our "IntelliSync HowTo":
zipped RTF Document

Follow the steps and enjoy syncing (ok, enjoy it more or less...,
it's IntelliSync and we don't know what the "Intelli" is referring to...).

General Discussion / Zaurus Out Of Production?
« on: May 11, 2007, 05:07:39 am »
Hi speculatrix,
Quote
It seems to me that there must be many more zauruses sold into Europe and USA than there are people on this forum, and since they don't change hands too often I wonder how many non-oesf members there are and what they are doing with them!
The answer is easy: A few thousand users that don't even
know, that they're working with a Zaurus
We sell only a few Zauri to Linux-geeks or endusers.
Most units go into professional / project sales. For
example one of our customers uses more than 1000
SL-C860/SL-C1000 with a special software for tour
planning / ordering / accounting. These Zauri are
used in delivery trucks and the truck driver just knows,
that this nice thing tells him what to drop off and how
many cash he has to take. He will never heard about
something like a "Zaurus" even if he use it every day.
Another nice application is the usage in helicopters:
http://www.eae.de/produkte_helimap.php
Also here, the pilot uses his "helimap" and don't
know that this is a Zaurus.
Funny sidenote: One of the most critical points here,
was to reduce the backlight brightness to make it
readable with night vision goggles.
A device with an open source platform is also very
interesting for users with, lets call it "high security
requirements" (dunno if they paint them in camo).
So there're a lot of people working with our beloved
gadgets every day, but they'll never join OESF

And we'll have an eye on the production dates, but
Sharp often starts a bigger production run and sells
the units over a few months. We'll keep you updated.

General Discussion / Zaurus Out Of Production?
« on: May 04, 2007, 05:56:48 am »
Hi all,
Quote
i wonder if Trisoft can tell us more about the future of the Z...[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=160389\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
we would if we had any hard informations.
We told you everything we know by now.
Fact is, that the 1000 and the 3200 are still in production.
But it was also fact in mid January that they cancel in Feb   .
Now they act like they never announced it (but it was a
VERY clear statement in Janaury).
There're definitely no informations about a new model.
(You know that the 4000 was cancelled because of the
cake baker interface thingy   )

Sorry, but we don't have any news for you.

General Discussion / Burned Out Screen, Loose Cable Or?
« on: April 25, 2007, 04:42:53 am »
spaul,

it looks like one of the display cables is no longer
properly connected.

If you have a jewelry screwdriver at hand, open the
display cover and check the two cables going to the
left and right PWBs. Best way is to open the connector,
pull the cable out and put it firmly back in.

Be careful while opening the connectors. The mechanism
breaks very easy if you apply too much force.

General Discussion / Zaurus Out Of Production?
« on: April 06, 2007, 04:39:53 am »
Hi all,

some more informations and answers for you:

@daniel3000
It's definitely no Aprils joke. I just got the information
that the next shipment is on its way from Japan.
They really continue making them but today they
announced, that the price will go up a bit

@Cresho
No, sorry. THIS was a joke. There's no SL-C4000XL
coming. It was stopped because also Sharp engineers
are reading this forum and after they read Fish's
post, they're now looking how to include a cake baker.
The Bluetooth-Rice-Cooker interface is XML-based. So
they hope to include the cake-baker protocol within the
next 12 months.
(Zaurus Cake Baker SHARP CE-CB1 will be available as
external device only. Capacity up to 10 cpd/cakes per day)

@xjqian
The good news: They're still making SL-6000s.
The bad news: It's the japanese version and they're
so incredible expensive, that we decided to call the
SL-6000 "no longer available".
Funny sidenote: We just got a 10xpack of EA-BL09
batteries for the SL-6000. Produced March 2007(!).
Doesn't look like a totally dead product, eh ?

I'm off now, installing the webcam watching the garden
to see where they hide all the easter eggs for the kids

General Discussion / Keyboard Not Working On C1000....
« on: April 06, 2007, 04:19:22 am »
Hi Raganorok,

while you've disassembled the Zaurus so far, try to
check the two microswitches on the mainboard.
Maybe it's just a bit dirt blocking the switch.

Also the keyboard test in the diagnostics menu is
very helpful in such cases.

And regarding that your Zaurus just maybe depressed
about the production stop, you should read the thread
again ;-)
End of production ?

General Discussion / Zaurus Out Of Production?
« on: April 05, 2007, 08:31:07 am »
Hi all,
let's bring some big fun in this thread ;-)

As we all "know", Sharp pulled the plug with the "last" production
run for February...

Now the fun part begins: We tried to order some more (because
with the "end of the line" sales increased big time). The answer
was "OK". Box came. Produced March 2007 (!)

*speechless*
Talked with the Sharp sales droid, WT* is going on ??
Sales droid : "How many do you need for April and forecast for
May ?"

No, we have no idea what the hell is going on at Sharp.
We got no explanation and (even if we got some info how long
they plan to continue) we won't comment this further.
For now, we expect everything. From out-of-stock tomorrow up
to a new model announcement next week.
Or maybe the rumor was just strategic to get rid of stock for the
new SL-C4000XL with 3D holographic XGA, toaster interface,
GSM, WiFi and bottle opener...

We don't know what kind of game they're playing, but for today
we can only confirm that fresh manufactured Zauri are available.

Happy and relaxed easter holidays to all OESF readers,

C1000/3x00 Hardware / Harddisk Upgrade/replacement? - [replaced!]
« on: January 24, 2007, 04:38:36 am »
Hi Da_Blitz,
Quote
i would say trisoft has had a bad experince, others have done it with great sucsess and if you know a bit about partioning and the cp -a command then you really should not have a problem

trisoft: did you have a swap file on the card, i have heard of some flash cards dying like that but sandisk has a good rep. also i have heard of really good fakes on ebay that are hard to tell apart
we know, that some of you guys replaced the hd with a CF
card without problems. That was the reason, why we started
testing here.

We did this with a SL-C3000, running our localized SHARP Rom.
I'm sure, it was a case of bad coincidence, but we simply had
no fun in trying and killing a third card
Also, with a SL-C3100/3200 that works most time in the flash
memory and uses the harddisk only for documents, the stress
for a CF card (or the disk) is much lower.

General Discussion / Can't Restore Backups On Sl-c3100
« on: January 24, 2007, 04:24:10 am »
Hi Capn_Fish,

"not exist file" means that the Zaurus doesn't see
the needed ".dbk" file on the card.

- is the filename systc310.dbk ?
- is it placed in the root directory ?
- if you try to restore from SD, is the CF slot empty ?

For NAND operations, the Zaurus will check the CF slot
first. If there's a card inserted, the Zaurus will not look
at the SD card.

Also, there're cards, that run well under normal
conditions, but won't let you do a NAND restore.

Try another card, preferably a CF card (but never use
a MicroDrive for NAND restore or flash updates).
