Ann: New Kanjidic 1.7
« on: March 17, 2005, 08:45:10 pm »
Hello all,

I'm proud to announce a new EPWING conversion of Jim Breen's (Thank you again!) Kanjidic
in 4 languages to be found at my EPWING dictionaries site.

What's new in version 1.7:

* large bitmaps (88x88 pixel) for all kanji
* search by classical radical via menu
* all kanji lists now prefixed by stroke counts
* several small bug fixes

A note about the Perl conversion scripts :
I implemented a simple markup interface to FreePWING which should make it easier to modify/write own conversion scripts.  The Perl module is part of the scripts' archive and all the scripts make use of it.  I also tried to write some documentation but for examples have a look at the scripts.

Hope you enjoy,
Hannes.

First I have to thank you for your work on this. But I have a small request: Could you please put the version number in the filename again? Makes it easier to keep track of which version I already have. Thanks.

I also would like to have it that way but Jim Breen who hosts the file wants them without version numbers.  Easier to update he said.

Oh well, then I just have to rename them myself.

The version for the example sentences - is 1.2 the version for the full file and 1.3 for the subset?

I tried this:

kanjidic_en.fpw.tar.gz (6102024 bytes) The file in EPWING format (from Hannes Loeffler - http://www.hloeffler.info/zaurus/ Hannes' versions include large bitmapped (88x88) versions of the kanji.)

http://ftp.cc.monash.edu.au/pub/nihongo/00INDEX.html

but none of the bitmaps work. They are all black.

Well, in principal this is the version number of the script but the subset has been generated with 1.3 the full set with the older version 1.2.

You should tell us at least the reader software+version number you are using...

Kanjidic is being used on a SL-C3000 with the default dictionary (multimedia dictionary v1). Zten also has the same problem. Everything else is perfect (^-^)

By the way, over the past few years I have have been playing with info from really old dictionaries before 1950 and have the vocabulary in Excel. It's almost in reverse order. Well, Japanese to English but I don't know how to turn it into an EPWING file. If you could help it would be great. I live in Japan and really need something better than the nice but difficult to use Genius I have.

Halx,

Thanks for the great work.

Just one question, I have another version of kanjidic that I thought came from your site. However the layout and cross-referencing is quite different between my old version and your curent version.

Did the old version come form you (or am I hallucinating?)

I've attached screen shots of the same kanji lookup in both version. I love the large size bitmap in your version, but the cross referencing in the old version is cool too. Also the layout of data is slightly easier for me in the older version.

Your Current Version

Hi all,

I too tried halx's new Kanjidic and I get the same black boxes for the bitmaps as q333 does in both zten (v1.6.2) and in zdict (v1.0), but... if I highlight the bitmap and some text around it, the bitmap shows up in inverse.  See shot below for example.

Er, does that mean the kanjidic files are wrong, or the dictionaries?

Do I need ztenv?

Thanks,

Jonathan

I selected the black box and could see the text

That means that the background color is the only problem. Is it easy to fix this?

Shift+Fn+C
/mnt/card/Screen_Files/*.bmp

Now I can add screen shots

Is the background color easy to change?
