it sounds as if dhcpcd is failing. this should really be in the security and networking part of the forum
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=108868\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

DHCP is not activated. The manually assigned IP adress works just fine. Actually everything works just fine, until I confirm the "no connection detected" box, which unfortunately doesn't like to give up its focus...

Could the virtual network interface wlan0, wifi0 be part of the problem? E.g. Qtopia is waiting for the wrong interface to come up?

what happens if you start the connection on the command line.

firstly, find out which one it is
    more/etc/pcmcia/wlan-ng.opts

the start the scheme:
    cardctl scheme qpewlanX
    cardctl reset

and see what gets printed to the command line; perhaps also use a script like this:

#!/bin/sh
while( 1 ) ; do
    sleep 1
    ifconfig -a
    iwconfig
done

and redirect to a file to watch its output

Thank you very much for you input!
When I start the connection from the command line I get a connection in no time and it is stable. Which means I can access Intra- and Internet from all appliations which do not rely on the Qtopia network detection feature (that means: Mail does not work, but Picsel Browser does, ... and - most important - online software installation) works. For Qtopia the network still seams to be down.

Here is the output of ifconfig and iwconfig:

Cacko Rom 1.23 Is Released
« Reply #123 on: January 04, 2006, 07:18:34 pm »
I installed Cacko 1.23 on my c3100.  I just got it and originally had the Sharp Zaurus Japanese default ROM on it. Very smooth installation!!

Question.  I would like to know why there is the need for 3 partitions of hdd (the hard drive I am assuming)?

I have
/hdd1, ext file system and read-only access.
/hdd2, ext file system and read-write access.
/hdd3, vfat file system and read-write access.

Since I am assuming this is the hard-drive, can I just blow away all partitions of the hard drive and re-format to one big partition using ext file system?  What would be an advantage for this this device using vfat?

Thanks for your (future) help and insight!!

that can be done with some hacking. the default sharp rom would not finish booting if any of the partitions were missing. i hacked rc.rofilesys to not check for those partitions and divided my microdrive into three partitions, swap, ext3 for installing stuff and fat for data

So, as the current setup, /hdd1 is for swap, /hdd2 is for any install programs, and /hdd3 is for any old data?

How did you hack the rc.rofilesys?  How did you re-do your partitions (without screwing something up)?

I think I would like to have 2 partitions, one swap, the rest for data.  I may have my SD card re-formated to ext and use that as an alternative place for installing programs (and I'll live with the fact it will be permanently in the Zaurus).

Thanks!

You know what?  that second question was a stupid question. I'm finding the format information stuff on Hd/Meanie's document.

Ok, let me re-state my questions then

1. How/what did you hack/do the rc.rofilesys?
2. If I wanted to have two partitions, say, hdd1 and hdd2, I would do a:
unmount hdd3
unmount hdd2
run fdisk and delete hdd3
run fdisk and delete hdd2
run fdisk and create hdd2 as <WHATEVER>
???

Thanks for your eyes and insight!

My hacked rc.rofilesys is located at [a href=\"http://www.users.on.net/~hluc/myZaurus/custom/rc.rofilesys.hacked]http://www.users.on.net/~hluc/myZaurus/cus...ofilesys.hacked[/url]
Its for Sharp ROM, but I also got one for Cacko as well.

you can use parted to resize your partitions, I used it to shrink hdd3 (/dev/hda3 or /dev/hdc3) and then deleted hdd1 (/dev/hda1 or /dev/hdc1) and hdd2 (/dev/hda2 or /dev/hdc2)

if you only want two partitions, you should still mount the second partition as /hdd3 to retain compatability with Sharp Rom. Some apps (the dictionary and mobile map) expect there is hdd3 for the data files.

Anton:

When I flashed to the Cacko ROM,  I tried to follow the directions on this page:  http://my-zaurus.narod.ru/cacko-tips.html  not knowing to look in a thread posting for the new directions.  Consequently, I tried to choose #5 as per the directions,  but it was a disclaimer rather than partitioning and so I just went ahead and chose flash.....stupid of me I know...but I wound up never partitioning to a size of 32.  Everything seems to work.  Do I need to flash again and partition?

Anyway,  at first I was not impressed with the Cacko ROM but now I am so impressed that I am today making a PayPal donation!  :-)

A few things...the link that explains how to get the Sandisk Connectplus wireless card to work with wifi is broken and I don't understand about the hex files.  Is there a firmware ipk I could install instead or are there directions somewhere else as to how to get that card to work with Cacko ROM??

Also,  could you make it easier to change the startup screen to a custom one?  And maybe have a choice of a picture instead of all the Linux code that  rolls by at power on....I'm sure some like to see those messages and so maybe there could be a way of choosing a picture OR the messages??

Thanks for your wonderful work!

If you still have default partitioning, you're simply wasting some space (approx 30 Mb) in your internal flash. I'd suggest to resise your root partition and reflash the ROM.

No, the wireless part of SanDisk card doesn't work at the moment under the Cacko ROM.

Maybe. Add a feature request at http://cacko.biz/cacko/bugs

You need to recompile the kernel with Sharp Logo enabled to hind the boot messages.

I have noticed that I do not get any USB connectivity when I attempt to connect the c3100 zaurus running the full 1.23 cacko with either a Linux PC or Windows XP PC.  Formerly with the factory Sharp ROM that comes with the Zaurus it would appear as a USB storage device on either a Linux PC or Windows XP PC. I then could stick programs onto the Zaurus by accessing the 'install' folder on my PC.

Anybody else have this problem?  What is the solution to get this back on the cacko 1.23 rom?

Thanks!!

Jay

PS I did see the "Missing Usb With Cacko 1.23" post where the solution was:

mount -o remount,rw /

followed by

ln -s /lib/modules.rom /lib/modules

and then reboot.

I already had the symbolic link before I tried.

Look under settings group, then the PC Link icon... set it to storage.  I think the sharp rom has this as default, so it threw me also for a bit

I'm having trouble installing the latest Cacko on my 860.  I downloaded the 1.23 ROM files to my 860 and installed as instructed. However, on several attempts things get as far as the first post-install boot, then after calibrating the screen I get a message "Please wait, loading time and date dialog" and the system sits there forever. The Back and Forward buttons are alive and I can skip past this point, but the time/date tool will never launch.  Any suggestions?  Have I got faulty hardware?

If it's relevant, while booting I get a stream of messages like

jffs2_scan_eraseblock: Magic Bitmask 0x1905 not found

and

wrong magic

ok, so i have been running cacko 1.23 on my 3100 and i love it! it works very nicely.. however, i finally ran into a problem once i reformatted my hdd3 as ext3. (so i can put pocketworkstation on it)
i changed the rc.rofilesys with changed to mount hdd3 as ext3 but no luck. I ended up reflashing cacko and now the rc.rofilesys is an 8 byte file that just says "#exit 0"  what happened to rc.rofilesys?? Everything still boots up except for the error in mounting hda3. When i'm in cacko the microdrive light is always flashing and it shows up in 'cardctl info' and i can mount it manually. However it would be nice if it got mounted correctly in the startup...

So here are my questions:
1. Does cacko use the rc-rofilesys file?? (i noticed cacko will still startup fine without so i'm guessing no..)

2. If it doens't use rc-rofilesys then how do i fix my problem above?

3. What are hda1 & hda2 used for??  (i used to have sys & .sys directories but they somehow went away...)

Quote

4. Why does the space get wasted? If i have 128M of ROM space and i allocate 30 for the root partition where does the rest go??

Thanks so much for a GREAT rom!!
