I've had issues with mistyping URLs into the package manager. I assume you've already double-checked your URLs (having www where you shouldn't)?

Thanks so much for the links.  They seem to be very helpful.  The feeds still don't come through.  I have followed the instructions to fix the package manager.  But nothing, the log says it couldn't retrieve it.

Hey... some friendly advice... what I do it is open up firefox or dillo and type in...

www.pdaxrom.org/download/

this will bring you to the downloads section "FTP"style and just navigate to the feed you want... and copy and paste that url into package manager... *NOTE* the last dir needs to be "feed"...

loji's has been working on a very nice guide for beta3: http://www.thesounddesign.com/zaurus/beta3.htm

Meanie's page is a classic: http://www.users.on.net/~hluc/myZaurus/custom-pdaxrom.html
(pity to see "This page is discontinued ...")

For GAIM, try to launch it from the terminal and see what errors the app has.
[div align=\"right\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
Meanie's page has been moved to a different server.
It still says "This page is discontinued..."
[a href=\"http://zaurus.daemons.gr/menaie/mirror/custom-pdaxrom.html]http://zaurus.daemons.gr/menaie/mirror/custom-pdaxrom.html[/url]

If he decides to take it down, I saved it and zipped it up, attached below:

BTW, ZDevil, you mentioned a "New" Z should be released by February.
I may just have enough extra mony to get another one in late January.
(This would be my 1 yr anniversary for my current C3100)
Still hoping to find a C3100, since the processor was changed in the C3200

Could Meanie tell us which system is running on his Z now? I ask this because I find both his pdaXrom and OE guides have been labelled as "discontinued"...

It is just my hunch that (according to the product cycles in the past) Sharp will release a new Z model around next February, which is one year after the release of C3200. If this does not happen, I will begin to worry about Z's future on the whole...

I just installed Firefox from my SD card to my Zaurus.  How can I get it to have an icon in the Internet folder?

That should work. Also, if you don't like the icon, try this one.

I decided to go back to Cacko.  Cacko was more simple and just worked better as a PDA.  Also pdaXrom acted funny sometimes.(beta of course)

Sorry guys.  I might come back when there are newer version out

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO...  j/k

I'm glad you did take the time to test of the ROM...

Hopefully the next release will be stable at first boot... I have plans to help out putting things together new features but still fixing standing issues...

yeah.. I saw some of the network scripting on the r121 page.  I bagged r121 for daily use. went back to beta 3 (this time linked to sd instead of  the hd--see if that saves some juice)

anyway, Iposted here to address 2 issues

1). the stuff working outta the box--the config applets and networking seem to be what turns me off fastest-- if they are dead, and the network is going to be timeconsuming to setup, Im aggravated--and I'm sure it just isn't a good start for people flashing to a new rom (re I'm thinking of using pdaxrom) as they wouldn't even have the motivation of knowing the end result to be good.

To be honest, a good, thorough, beta3 setup takes about a day (I'm familiar with beta3 and it has fewer big glitches than 121) one of the 2.6 betas would take me longer, as there is more to do, and no "loji's page" to point stuff out.  Niether of these is a really good start for soemone checking out pdax

2). re testing on older Zaurii--  I'm testing OZ on my 6000 ATM for a few reasons--interest in the neo1973, curiosity about some updates, the rather compelling logic (regarding the production of up to date software for multiple devices) of their buildsystem, and - what is important here, anyway- THERE IS NO recent pdax to check out on my 6000.  And I don't want to lose too many weekends testing stuff on a Z that I actually want to use on a regular basis.
Your comment made me think of a really good reason to include more models in the beta releases--- it will bring more testers

I can understand 100% why you say this... this is the reason why when a user says they are going to try pdaxrom for the first time i tell them to start of with beta3 if on cxx00 and beta1 if cxx0...

because beta4 and rc121 are very flaky roms intended for beta testers... and it will turn off a novice user... me personally... im using beta3 right now to type this post.... but when i have time work on fixes, changes and to make improvements... i flash rc121... in the next week or so.. i plan on making the complete switch...  due to me not spending enough time with it...

PS: You know what... screw it... I'm doing it now... :-)...

After reading Legodudes attempt to jump off into pdaXrom land I got into lemmings mode and jumped to  .  I tried out Beta 3 after InSearchOf's recommendation.  But due to a faulty install with corrupt files I said screw it and tried rc121.  So far I'm loving it.  I've been wrestling with it for about a week however I learned the following.

1.  How to create networking scripts.  I've taken what was on the pdaXrom main page and added some things by googling it.  check it

#!/bin/sh
echo "Resetting Wireless"
ifconfig wlan0 down
rm /var/run/dhcpcd-wlan0.pid
sleep 1
echo "Turning Up Network"
ifconfig wlan0 up
iwconfig wlan0 essid Core mode managed key ##########
dhcpcd wlan0
sleep 5
ifconfig wlan0

I have about three scripts for home, work, and friends house.  Now I just have to get kismet working.

2.  Learning how to run IPKG commands.  Now I only look at the package manager to see what's been installed and what I can install.  After trying Cacko, OZ, and now Xrom I came to realize that the command line is better.

3.  How to partition my 4G SD card using fdisk and formatting for EXT2.  It took me a while to realize that installing apps with a vfat partition is a no go for Xrom  .  With the newer Kernel it reads it smoothly.

Now I have a lot of apps loaded on SD (apps load better on SD w/ Xrom than Cacko IMHO).  I finally feel like my Z is a mini laptop with Firefox, Gnumeric, Abiword, etc..  I was especially happy with KOPI still being able to install and loading my data.  I can't tell if rc121 is flaky compared to Beta3 because I have no baseline to go off of.

Enough of the exhortation.... I'm sticking with pdaXrom....  I just have to figure out a couple of things.

1.  Get VNCserver working with it to produce screenshots
2.  Research on how to get a 128M swapfile on my seconds SD partition
3.  Get Kismet or Wellenweiter running on it.  And WPA w/ TKIP
4.  Learn how to compile.....

Thanks Guys
C1000 w/...  Cacko Lite (When I use the Z alot for business)... pdaXrom (when I see something cool and want to try it.  Best way for me to learn shell commands)

Hi Harvell, good to have you with us!

I'm using beta3 myself as I was never able to get my Planex wifi card workong in r121.

Glad it's coming together though. A tip- you can use the command ipkg-link to list installed packages which I find very useful and never use package manager anymore.

Do a search for Scrot as it's ideal for screenshots, tightvnc is great for remote desktops though.

I don't think either release is flaky, they just need a lot of tweaking to get it how u like it

Let us know how u get on with Wellenreiter and Kismet as I'm curious myself

ciao!

I dont believe kismet will work as of yet... with out the hostap module(s)...

But let us know if you get it all together...

Late

PS. Flaky aka Buggy... but this is what beta is all about! push out new features... figure out whats wrong... fix them... and we will be one step closer to a stable release... :-)
