pdaXii13 5.3.1 (Alice) beta us now available for testing...

Do I get it all from here:

http://www.tyrannozaurus.com/feed/pdaXii13/tmp/

?

If I just get these:

      updater.sh (18KB) - v0.25
      updater-tools.bin (1.2MB) - build 15
      initrd.bin (2.5MB) - 0.5a
      zImage-2.4.20.bin (1.1MB) - 2.4.20

...and stick them on my SD card, will the contents of what's on my microdrive remain untouched?

I've actually got hdimage-full.tgz (183MB) - build5.3.1 beta installed on the slightly older version of pdaxii13 that I'm running on my 3200.  I used the files from here:

http://www.tyrannozaurus.com/feed/pdaXii13/akita/

..to install pdaxii13 but with the build5.3.1 beta hdimage-full.tgz instead of the one on this page:

http://www.tyrannozaurus.com/feed/pdaXii13/files/

In summary then:

*Do I use the files at

http://www.tyrannozaurus.com/feed/pdaXii13/tmp/

...to get the latest version of pdaxii13?

I'm pretty sure this is the latest "Alice" version for spitz. (hdimage-full.tgz (183MB) - build5.3.1 beta)
The akita version was the first version to be upgraded to latest fixes. (This was several days ago and this is the smaller of the versions)
Meanie also said, several days ago, that the spitz version would be upgraded next, (following the akita upgrade) which is this version.
EDIT
I still have the previous spitz version (build5.3 beta ) and it is 170MB

..ok, thanks.   What I'm wondering is whether or not I need to re-flash with the latest version of installer.sh et al, as, someof the improvements Meanie mentions here:

[a href=\"http://www.tyrannozaurus.com/?q=node/210]http://www.tyrannozaurus.com/?q=node/210[/url]

...don't seem to have worked (eg kHDrecord complains of not being able to access /dev/dsp or /dev/mixer.and there are probably others but I don't really have time to check through them all atm).

the installer tool does not change much. the only file, unless explicitly mentioned that changes in spitz is the hdimage file.

for khdrecord, you need to stop the volune applet before it can control the mixer... i will add a wrapper script to do it automatically...

OK, thanks for the info Meanie...saves me alot of time.

I'm not sure why some of the mods yo mention don't work though..ie, things like virtual scrfeen switching & brightness changes via keyboard.

those features havent changed since build3. are you sure you are using the right key combos? fn+1/2/3/4 won't work since that conflicts with accessx. you need to use the super key instead...

it is the right-most Japanese key.
Or just left of the dash '-' key

EDIT:
The other Japanese key, next to ctrl is usually mapped as alt

I've just installed pdaXii13 5.3.1b full on my c3000. It installed fine and I'm happy that streamtuner is included now but I'm sad to say that pdaXii13 still suffers from multiple keyboard related problems which I've already mentioned several times before on these forums, namely

1. The unwanted USB keyboard bindings are still present, which are

---------------------------------------------

KEY | ACTION

Alt_Gr (Right Alt) | Starts Stardict

Right Windows Key | Starts rox

Print Screen | Starts xmms

F5 | Starts mrxvt

F6 | Startx xmms

F7 | Starts rox

F9 | Starts dillo

-----------------------------------------------

2. I have tried this pdaXii13 with both Sticky Keys enabled and disabled (and rebooting after changing the setting) but CAPS LOCK still doesn't work

3. Still no UK USB keyboard map installed by default. I suppose its not such a great deal when we have all these problems with keyboards but I don't understand why pdaXii13 includes so many text editors and media players but including a 2kb keyboard driver is out of the question. You really don't like us Brits do ya Meanie? (he's an Oz so its a rhetorical question and I just whine at him so I shouldn't be surprised)

Can these keyboard problems not be fixed without replacing X? Are we never likely to get fully functional, stable keyboard support in pdaXii13?

Its too early for me to say as I've only used this latest version to check for those keyboard issues so I don't know if the inbuilt keyboard stopping working prob still exists but I'm not holding my hopes up since these nasties have failed to be neutralised.

1. These are the silkscreen/quick keys which can be remapped using the inputconfig tool. They will not be disabled by default because the Z keyboard which is always there and used by everyone is more important than a random usb keyboard which isn't used by many people. you are allowed to customise the keyboard mappings to your own desire if you want to. nothing is stopping you from doing it...

2. caps lock is disabled intentionally since i never use it and it interferes with sticky keys/tab completion... again, if you don't like this default behaviour, chnage it yourself...

3. yeah ya pommy, we use the yankee keyboard downunder....

I've uncommented the CAPS_LOCK line in spitz.xmodmap and restarted X but still no CAPS LOCK. I know the Fn key is working as I can Fn+1/2 to switch res etc. Tell me how to get CAPS LOCK working and I'll be happy.
