Zautrix is as fast as ever. The buttons for templates while CSV import are already available in 1.9.1.

To import Outlook generated CSV files do the following:

1) download the templatefile from sourceforge:
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.p...ckage_id=122438

2) unzip the file and copy the extracted file "Outlook 2000.desktop" into folder
<Your home dir>\kdepim\apps\kaddressbook\csv-templates

3) start the CSV import in KAddressbook. Select the CSV file you want to import and then the template (the button to select the template is in the lower left corner of the dialog)

I tested it quickly and it seems to work, eventhough I exported my contacts from Outlook 2002.
If you experience any problems with other versions of outlook, or you think you did improve the template, let us know.

Only other comment I have at this time is icons; the change to KO/Pi is fine, as was the previous one.  The House/Home for KA/Pi does not work for me.  I associate people with addresses, so something else would be better, in my humble opinion.
Hi Ulf, (and the others)  what icon should we take for KA/Pi?

The previous one with two people?

Slocaus, would be the previous one ok?

Or do you have another nice icon you would like to see as icon for KA/Pi?

Must be available in a 64x64 resolution.

z.

@zautrix

FAQ:  Urk!  Not used to that being on my Z.  I keep going to the desktop.  I'll look at it.

Icon:  The first one is fine, or anything with people - stylized or not.  The "Home" icon just throws me off.  I have used this one (current avatar) as well.

Anyone else find that KA/Pi from 1.9.1 is horrifically slow to open?  I have fast load enabled in both and it loads much slower than KA/Pi 1.9.0 without fast load, which is really strange.

I've gone back to 1.9.0 and it loads quickly with fast load.

Hi slocaus,

thank you very much for your help in general and for that hint in particular!

I didn't tried it with fastload.
It loads very slow for me as well.
I guess the reason is the displaying of Ka/Pi in fullscreen.
I will remove it in the next version.
It was just a try, how useable it is.

I like the house icon, but I understand slocus's concerns.  The kopi and kapi icons are two diferent styles, but that's picking hairs.

I'm not noticing any performance hit on the latest kapi.  BTW, I think I will be moving to the cacko rom before the week is finished.
I'm now an iphone user and use my zaurii as serial terminals, perl and shell scripting and when I need 640x480 screens

@zautrix,  You are most welcome for any help I can offer.  You have given me a PIM that works!   I am very happy with the fact that KO/Pi meant that my Zaurus became my primary PDA again some months back!  I'm sure you will get the fast load issue working.  I only use it on KO-KA/Pi and no other apps, plus I have an 8 meg swapfile for this reason.

Even 1.9.0 KA/PI has been very useable for me, although all I use it for now is phone number lookups.

@bluedevils,  I don't really object to the Home/House;  I just don't associate it with a PIM app, but a navigational icon.  I have customized many icons on my SL-5500 already, and will just customize KA/Pi if anyone wants to keep the Home icon.

Hi Ulf1,

I tried to extract the file (outlook2000.zip) into the folder that you had indicated, but I cant seem to find the folder based on your description.

Please advise if there is any other way to use the template.

Thanks

I'm using the latest version on both my Z & my work winblows pc. I love the new kapi, I've imported my contacts from my palmdesktop (I used to sync the DTM with palmdesktop as we are forced to use GroupWise @ work). It was much easier to setup the csv map on my work pc as the extra screen real estate made mapping much easier.

I agree with the previous comments on desktop & exit icons. Speaking of icons, it would be nice if you included some icons for the winblows binary (*.ico) so we can have the same icons on the desktop there too.

Will you be implementing the same sync options as kopi? I use the ssh method and would love to be able to use it for kapi too.

Great work, you guys rock, thanks for all of your effort, it is really appreciated

Cheers,
Jerry

I am using a C700 with Cacko rom on a Mac running OSX.  I was using Ko/Pi, since I installed the new KDEPIM, I noticed that the syncing with Ical works, but only if I only enter information into the Z.  IF I enter anything on the Mac, it will not sync with the Z anymore.  I know there are problems with the Libical, but it seemed to work better with Ko/Pi 1.7.7.

Alos my Z could not see the new package when I tried to instal the new version of KDE PIM

choonhow,

I had some trouble with the "outlook 2000.zip" file also. I finally got it to work. Here is what I had to do.
1. I extracted the zip file "outlook 2000.desktop" from the zip file using my PC.
2. I then moved the file "outlook 2000.desktop" to my Z's SD card
3. I renamed the file "outlook 2000.desktop" to outlook_2000.desktop (because linux doesn't like spaces in file names.)
3. I had to create the csu-templates directory on my Zaurus 860 because it didn't exist. Here is the path I used /home/zaurus/kdepim/apps/kaddressbook/ csv-templates (not sure if your would be exactly the same but you can try it)
4. Everything from there was as it was described in the earlier post.

I hope this helps you.

Kudos to everyone working on KO-KA/Pi. You guys are the answer to my prayers! The work you all are doing is immeasurable. I now have a very useful and powerful PIM tool. Even though Ka/pi is a bit buggy for me right now - it is still very useful and the potential keeps me salavating for the next release.

Any plans to tie the email program into the PIM suite like the current address book does?  For example. the ability to launch a new email message to a particular contact from within the address book and the ability to add email addresses to the address book from the email program? My wish list would also include some sort of linking capabilities between the KO/Pi programs and KA/Pi. For example if you had a todo to call John Doe (and John Doe was in your contacts) you could link the contact information to the ToDo so that just a tap on his name from the ToDo would take you to his contact information (where his number would be). Or associated ToDos and calendar events could even show up from within the KA/Pi program underneath his name. That would be great and very usefull.

But overall, right now I am loving everything you all have done so far and if you stopped right now we would still have a great PIM. But please don't stop!! Keep up the great work.

You must not me a linux user?  The current KDE PIM desktop suite (if you will) is KOrganizer, KAddressBook, Kontact, KMail and Kpilot (Palm PDA) with excellent integration.

Korg and KO/Pi sync, and KA/Pi will "sync" with KAB if you use unison....

I don''t think that it is a casual naming of KDE PIM/Pi by zautrix and ulf, ???  I suspect that the KDE PIM for the Zaurus is just on leg 2 of many to come.  (fingers crossed)

Thank you very much for your help. I will try your method later.
