KDE-Pim/Pi 1.9.4 Release
« Reply #45 on: September 13, 2004, 07:05:31 am »
Looks very nice. Is there a way to import my TKCaddressbook? I've tried "Import Qtopia", but nothing happens. "Import Opie" shows my addressbook (/home/Zaurus/Applications/addressbook/addressbook.xml) but again nothing happens when I try to import it.

More info:

Starting kapi from the console gives the following error messages:

KActionCollection::setWidget: warning: Kaccel is never used in microkde
Xconfig: could not open file /home/root/kdepim/config/kkdepimrc
Xconfig: could not open file /home/root/kdepim/config/kaddressrc
QGList::locate: Index -1 out of range
QGList::locate: Index 1 out of range

And when I try to "Import Qtopia", the following errors appear:

QLibrary open failed!: /home/QTPalmtop/lib/libmicrokabc_qtopia.so, libqpepim.so.1: cannot load shared object file: No such file or directory  (this message appears 3 times)
KLibrary: The library microkabc_qtopia does not offer an init_microkabc_qtopia function
KRES::factory::resource(): Factory creation failed for library microkabc_qtopia

The package kmicrokdelibs version 1.9.4 is installed

Just had a play with 1.9.5 KAddressbook...

Excellent.

Still does not seam to want to save config. settings, so editing the file by hand instead for now and that works fine.
That's strange.
It works for me ...

Searching is excellent. Could not ask for more.

I have a fairly small address book (100 or so entries), so like having the option of searching immediately. Nice and quick, wildcards works well...

The search on return should work well for those with large addressbooks.

All I need now is the ability to import multi line fields and multiple fields to single Notes fields (See suggestions in sourceforge). That would take care of the extra fields in Outlook

Likely to happen at some point. Or don't like the idea ?

Yes, I think that would be really useful!

Currently, you can import data directly with the Windows version of KA/Pi from Outlook via OLE.
It imports all addresses and all phone numbers amd more or less all the other data that can mapped to KA/Pi fields.

http://www.pi-sync.net/html/migration_howto.html

I will add there the feature, that additonal Outlook fields are added to the Notes field to make the data migraton more complete.

Later I will look at the import  csv feature.
But that has not a high priority for me.

I installed 1.9.4 today - first time install on a Cacko ROM w/C860.  KO/PI and OM/PI start fine from the menu.  KA/PI won't start from the menu - it just hangs there with the little graphic that appears when you click to start something.  I *can* start KA/PI from the command prompt - no problems.  I also tried creating a new mail in OM/PI and then clicking on the 'To' button, which I assume would call KA/PI, but nothing happens.

Any ideas?

Thanks.
Fixed this by rebooting...

Ok, this is fixed now in version 1.9.5a.

It should work even better than before, because I have fixed an old  problem when writing back the data to DTM.

i've just installed the 1.9.5(a) suite.
Kopi seems to run smooth as usual. A fine improvement would be the ability to send single appointments not only by ir, but by mail(ics) as well.

With Kapi i've got a minor problem: i found the toggle for "search only after...", i unchecked it and pressed OK. No matter what action follows (i.g. quit the program, add an item...) the setting is lost! When i return to settings, the box is checked.
I run Kapi as root and the config files are set to 777, so can't see any reason for this.
The selection is fine, though personally i'd prefer, that the search field is cleared after an entry is picked(Display or edit)

Ompi has become better, especially the "get mail" feature is an improvement, still something seems to be odd with the display of html-coded mail, the time it takes to show the body can be considered a time of delivery rather than time of response. Still it has the potencial to become my favorite mail client, owing to the integration with kopi and kapi.

great work!

That is actually not an error - that's simply true!
OK- as I said, they all installed cleanly, and after having played with all three for some time now, I can say that they're all working perfectly (as far as I can tell).

All in all, these are very nice.  Please keep up the hard work zautrix (and ulf too). . .

Hello Jesizmi,

we heard from others as well that storing the configuration does not work correctly.

Can you try the following in the following order:

1) start kapi
2) change the "search only after..." configuration and then close the config dialog
3) modify any address and then close kapi
4) restart kapi and check the "search only after..." setting

Did it it change?

thanks,
Ulf

Another problem is,
It seems that I can't save the settings of the syncprofile of the resource setting in KA/PI,
Everytime I restart the Ka/Pi that is requested by itself, the setting of the syncprofile isn't different from before.

Hi Ulf,

yes i did it exactly, but

Did it it change?
No

I figured out, that changes in the config settings don't even survive exiting the settings dialog. It's not only the search mode but any other setting as well. Obviously, changes aren't even in memory, not to mention saved.

Reinstall and reboot didn't bring any impovement, so finally i edited the config file manually - that did the trick. But somehow, i believe, that there has to be a more convenient way to save settings

Doesn't matter too much, i'm still fond of kdepim/pi. So once again, thanks for your effords.

Hi,

About configuration settings saving in ka/pi. I noticed it only is saving the changes when pressing the OK button in the lower left of the screen.
So NOT the one in the top right that is part of the windowing system.

Please verify so that zautrix is able to fix this...

Everything else seems ok.. except maybe a small translation error?
In ka/pi it says emport (instead of export?).

Thanks for this new version though!

-Roy

edited:... of course the button is on the lower left on the screen  duh...

Confirmed.  The hw-OK-button doesn't work either. But still it's the lower left  .

I didn't even notice befor, those buttons existed, since i run kapi in landscape mode and thus they aren't visible nor reachable by scrolling.
Maybe another fixworthy point?
