Pressing Fn+4 should bring the screen back by increasing the brightness.
That works. But the screen only blacks out if you've set the lowest brightness with the applet. If you used the keyboard shortcut Fn+3, it doesn't happen.

Cacko Rom 1.22 Is Available!

I love the new ROM - I was seriously looking into pdaXrom but after this release decided to stick with Cacko. It seems like a lot of people are struggling to decide between 2 excellent ROMS - what a nice problem to have - didn't someone recently ask on these forums whether development for z is dying down? Hopefully Cacko and pdaXrom people have put that question to rest (for a few weeks anyway).

I do have a few questions about Kino2:

1. For MP3 (created via itunes conversion of CD on powerbook) I don't get author and album displayed (only song name and size). Is it me doing something wrong or is this not available in Kino2? I have recently switched my music from ogg -> mp3 and remember that I did not have this problem with ogg (although this was on Sharp player - I know that is still available but I would prefer Kino2 for all other reasons). BTW, please don't attack me for abandoning ogg - as soon as Apple can be convinced to add option to itunes to support ogg I will switch back.

2. When I load a saved playlist Kino2 positions me at the bottom of the list - seems more logical it should assume I want to play the whole list starting at the top? I know there is already a related request to add option to resume from last played song/movie posion, but in the meantime can we please have an option (or change of default) to start at the beginning?

Thanks again for hard and great work.

Hahaha, yeah. It's pretty fun to see the cacko and pdaX teams motivating everyone else. They're doing a very good job, IMHO, and because of that people feel it's worth it to have powerful apps.
If Cacko didn't exist, I don't think I would have even kept my Z. I would have switched to a cheap Palm or so, but because they provide a good platform (and a responsive platform, whose vision users can relate to), I feel it's worth trying.
The new networking setup is a bit problematic, but it'll get ironed out eventually, and then form a much better solution than the default setup. Judging from the previous experience, it's just a matter of time.
Once that is figured out, it'd be very nice to focus on interoperability.

Congratulations and Thankyou to Cacko Team - ROM 1.22 is really great

My Socket G BT working with no problems (GSM GPRS internet)
My PayPal donation will follow shortly.

Only one problem I have found is with Polish keyboard layout in the Keyboard aplication:

I can choose it within the application but later on I cannot switch to it - it is not visible in the task bar applet. It doesn't matter how many other kbds I choose all of them are visible and accessible - Polish is not.
Same problem was in 1.21 and 1.21B version. I was trying to compare the kbd files but coud not see any difference - which means nothig as my linux experience is null :-((

Any help appreciated - thanks in advance :-)

Great ROM indeed, noticed d speedups in kino and libSDL! I do still have some problems:

- opera just segfaults, can't find out why
- when connecting with wifi, the overall timeout is really short: in the end DHCP only has half a second to reply and sometimes connection aborts before it can connect to the AP
- the network icon in the lower right sometimes displays right on top of another icon (the screensaver icon in my case, but when I disable that it just puts itself on top of the next)

Hope you can help.

Does this all happen on a newly freshed Zaurus?  Is there any other software packages that you've installed?

Unfortunately, the code in Battery/Brightness applet is from Qtopia 1.6.2 and I have no idea why it set brightness in such a wired way. Since Fn + 3 / Fn + 4 buttons are handled by Qtopia itself, I can't have a look how it actualy sets  brightness correctly...

Anton

Just found a bug in Cacko 1.22, Zaurus won’t power up if you close the lid in the middle of rebooting. Removing battery for 5 seconds fixes it.

Not sure if it was a problem on version 1.21B never closed the lid during reboot before.

well, the network icon on top of another icon happened already right after flashing. Unfortunately I haven't tried opera right after install, so I don't know if it's caused by another package. I've installed the IBM multimodal browser now anyway (opera 7.55) so it's not such a problem. The DHCP problem was caused by a previous run of dhcpcd not having cleaned up its files in /var/run and caused new runs of dhcpcd to return with an error right away. After I've solved that, the network connection applet allowed more time for DHCP to reply.

I'll attach a list of the installed packages... Please note that the libpng12 and libSDL entries are mockups that I've added manually to the /home/root/usr/lib/ipkg directory to prevent the installer from pulling these packages in as dependencies. In addition, zlib and smbmount have been installed by mistake (already on ROM), but I have not yet fixed that.

I am considering switching to Cacko, but I have a few questions.

First, I have a Stock 860.  In the network settings, it has a vpn tab which I need.  Also the connect applet includes a VPN Connect button which I need.  Are both of those in the Cacko Rom?  If not, can I just copy them back onto it after flashing?

Second, if I try Cacko and need to switch back, can I just reflash back to where I was before?

Third, in your release notes, you mentioned a fix for "device busy on CF modems".  I downloaded your kernel patches, but I didn't see any mention of that in there.  Are there any other patches you made that fixed that?  I would like to apply it to my existing Sharp ROM.

Thank you,
Matt

yesm there are VPN settings in Cacko ROM, but I have never used then, so I cannot tell if they work.

You need to perform full NAND backup from D+M menu. Then you'll get to restore your Zaurus to original state. I think this information is included in HOWTO on this site.

There shoudn't be such a problem in Sharp ROM - this was an issue in 1.21. Cacko ROM.

Sharp has released an updated Rom for the C860 (v1.4j I think). If you don't want to do a NAND (which will give you an exact copy of the zaurus when the NAND file was made) you can flash this to get back the base Sharp rom, then restore a backup created with the "Backup/Restore" app to get a fresh Sharp rom setup

Note: the C860 rom from Sharp flashes fine on the C760 too

Might be possible to look up the code in the Qtopia 2.1 source code.\
Just a shot in the dark here, I'm not quite sure that'd be part of the base Qtopia system.

I'm not shure about that, but to me it seems, that the lowst brightness setting by applet, is as dark as lowest brigthness set by Fn+3 after dimming.
So maybe it's just the same behaviour, exept that there is no lower level of brightness after setting lowest by applet. So the next step naturally would be to turn the led off.

Just a thought
