Hentges had to stop development of OZ/Hentges for a while.

The SL-5500 (collie) isn't suited for GPE.
What makes you think so?

I've tried it myself on my collie.  It really needs the room to spread out.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Help To Install Oz Opie On Collie
« on: December 27, 2006, 10:20:58 pm »
I think you're missing the partition info (these aren't floppies, they're like hard drives). In Linux, once again run fdisk /dev/sda -- and double check to see there's a FAT partition for it.  If not, make one of type "6" and write it out.

Now mkdosfs /dev/sda1, and your card should be usable again for DOS systems.

For the Zaurus, however, I'd repartition the card for a Linux ext2 file system and install cardfs from there.  I did that with my own collie.

Yeah, I ran into the same problems.  But you got it working?  Daaaaaaaaaaaaamn, that means I just wasted some money sending the old card back and buying an Ambicom through Amazon.

Post that cis file somewhere and let the HostAP developer know about it to boot.

I installed the 20061108 cardfs-gpe-collie install on my 5500 and I'm having trouble with both ipkg update failing and dist-upgrade failing, Do I need to do a dist-upgrade if I have the 20061108 image?

ipkg seems to fail on getting packages from feeds.openzaurus.org, It fails on the python feed

I'd get the Opie version with a SD card having a CardFS installed on it.  The SL-5500 (collie) isn't suited for GPE.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / 3.5.4.x Upgrades
« on: December 26, 2006, 10:42:12 pm »
Okay, just an update to earlier requests:

* TightVNC on the GPE images
* Firefox upgraded to 2.0.0.1

I can try to compile it on my Akita if need be.

Is it an  XTERASYS CWB1K?  If so, return it.  I tried getting it to work, and they're just cheap trash.  I'm sending it back to Newegg tomorrow, and spent my money on an Ambicom that worked right out of the box.  Amazon has the card, as well as the DLink and Linksys cards.  Good luck finding a Netgear card, though.

Can we get TightVNC for the GPE images?  Just the viewer.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Akita Hentges 1.0.x Gpe Notes
« on: December 09, 2006, 08:22:35 pm »
Some notes on post-install of the Hentges 1.0.x GPE image on a C-1000 (Akita):

Fluxbox my butt:  I had to remove the fluxbox-gpe package, which changed it back to matchbox-wm and made the operation rather sane and more Opie-ish.  Better.

XMMS and ESD: ESD is always running, and it takes up the audio device to boot.  This causes XMMS to wait until the audio device is freed up (which won't happen).  Unfortunately, XMMS isn't compiled with the ESD plugin, and I doubt ESD is compiled for ALSA.

I'm double checking some font issues, see if they're all there or not.  Hopefully I can bend this ROM to my will.

Hey Coredump?  What window manager are you using in the GPE images?  I just got my Akita and after a bit of a trying time with GPE I slapped Opie on it.  Fluxbox just doesn't work well with it.  I'm using the latest -20061108 release.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Cannot Ssh To Hentges Rom/ Nameserver Failior

Thank you for the pointer on ssh and passwd. Yes that was it. Now ssh works.

The network comes up and ssh works. Pings from the Z the linux box work. However the Linux box is not forwarding the packets. Pings through do not appear to work. The Linux box has VMWARE running and guest OS from that box are successful at accessing the web - this lead me to believe that routing and iptables should not be too far off.

What is the best way to proceed to debug the network config?

Thanks - Dan

While your Z's hooked up and turned on, check /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forwarding.  Just do a 'cat' of it.  If it's '0', then echo a '1' into it, and your Z should communicate out now.

As my Akita speeds it's way through the US Postal system after it's flight from Tokyo to New York City...

Has anyone tried to get serial_fd working on a collie in OZ?  Even in Hentges I get a "insmod: init_module: serial_fd: invalid argument" and it fails to load the module.

Argh!

Hopefully the Akita will have a generic USB Ethernet adapter so I don't have to install software on any Windows box...

Okay, I'm sold on the Hentges ROM.  However... should I be switching my Collie to GPE?

I'm also considering buying an Akita (C1000) in a week's time.  GPE on that too?

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Collie, Mplayer, Libmad0 Don't Run

I had the same problem. I grabbed the mplayer-1.0pre7-r2 from the 3.5.4 (or 3.5.4.1?) feeds.

Not sure the root cause, unless it has to do with the difference between the 2.4 and 2.6 kernels, however I did take the liberty of doing an

ipkg flag hold mplayer

to make sure it doesn't get upgraded accidentally.

That's probably the best work-around so far.  Meanwhile, it looks like I'd also work on getting an updated Zaurus.
