Gemini PDA - General Discussion / Re: IRC?
« on: September 14, 2021, 09:21:34 am »
Hi Varti,

very happy to keep the log archive, not planning to get rid of it or anything.

My thoughts are on keeping it logging going forward. Can only see a couple of people using #gemini-pda at present, and did spot mention of #planet-devices as well. Will try and keep in place whatever works best for all of us, just let us know how we can help.

Thanks

I know this is on an old post, but i'm reconfiguring our logging service from freenode to Libera and wanted to check and see if the gemini-pda channel is still in use (it's very quiet!) and/or if there are any others I should be looking at.

Thanks!

I have to say well done. I've heard of Anbox elsewhere and think your success in getting it to run is a good step forward. (Disclaimer: I'm involved with the LuneOS project in a support capacity)

I am interested in your work, but at present I can't do much other than read through it, I couldn't currently act on it or implement it unfortunately. But lessons learned are always worth noting and documenting, you never know when they might be useful

Cosmo received back just now. All seems to be okay, was nice to get it back quickly.

5
Received word yesterday that mine has now been repaired & is on it's way back to me. 2nd time with same fault, but both under warranty.

I let Planet support know in Jan that the issue had reoccured (actually happened late Nov), but due to Covid & clearing my device down that took an extra few weeks. My suggestion, make them aware asap even if you need some time to clear it before sending. You have to wipe it before it goes, as it will come back blank.

Not planning on using it as my primary device when it comes back, aiming for Linux only I think (when I find some time..)

6
To me, they said its not covered, because mail arrived one month out of one year warranty :-( ... 70 Euros ...

Mine has already been repaired for this issue, so I may be in a new warranty period. Not sent it yet, only just cleared it of data so need to get in touch and make sure I can send it..

7
My Cosmo is now booked in for service, but have been advised that due to lockdown please not to send it yet.

Which is fine, I still need to move my data to another device.

But they have confirmed it is covered thankfully.

Oh dear, looks like the same issue has happened again. Been working fine since I got the repaired Cosmo back, but yesterday noticed I couldn't hear calls except on speakerphone.

Not trying anything more than reboots at present, if I have to go as far as factory resets I can see me switching to another device permanently. As much as I like the keyboard (despite it's quirks), the rest of the device does let the side down a bit.

Great, mine now seems to be doing the same thing again. Been working fine for months after the repair, then suddenly yesterday I can't hear anyone unless they're on speaker.

Trying reboots, etc. but i'm not going anywhere near a device/factory reset yet. If that happens i'm convinced i'll be moving to another device. As good as I find the keyboard (despite it's quirks, and I do use it a lot), everything else seems to be letting the side down.

Can't find my original post yet, so thought would update here first.

Cosmo Communicator - Android / Re: WiFi data unstable while roaming
« on: November 02, 2020, 12:53:25 pm »
Last day of arguing with this WiFi & trying to download a several hundred MB file with rsync.

I managed to get a couple of MB each time, reset WiFi, resume transfer, etc.

Then one time I figured, my Bluetooth is on yet I know i've got nothing connected to it. To save a bit of battery, I turn it off.

Now i'm getting a consistent minimum of 1MB/s & no interruptions. Did the remaining 500MB of that file in 7mins

Why? No idea.. But it worked

You know, i'm just going to say this particular WiFi connection isn't the best.

I've started to see similar issues on other devices, so happy it's the AP device, or beyond, that is the issue. The WiFi actually stays up all the time, but somewhere things aren't working the way they should, most common issue i've seen is DNS does not resolve.

Hey,

Yes, problem still exists regardless of whether mobile data is enabled or not.

And yes, i've tried other WiFi networks now (I hadn't found one before) and they too seem okay with no apparent issues.

First time i've roamed with it (and certainly since receiving it back from Planet after repairs), so quite puzzling

Observations:

WiFi is still connected all the time, but it seems to be DNS that gives up
Today I have a different IP to yesterday
Private DNS is off, i've tried automatic & setting manually to cloudflare. Which didn't work at first as DNS wasn't working & it couldn't connect. Catch 22? Once configured it didn't seem to resolve anything
Back to off & i'm back to where I was before

Cosmo Communicator - Android / WiFi data unstable while roaming
« on: October 28, 2020, 05:27:28 am »
Okay, this may be a few different things put together.

I am currently roaming, ie. not on my home mobile provider.
I try to keep mobile data disabled when I don't need it
I have access to WiFi in my room, but for some reason the connection is unstable & usually only last 30-60 seconds. Disabling & enabling again restores the connection for a similar amount of time.
I have access to a couple of other devices, and for these WiFi works fine, no question. They are not as useful as my Cosmo however
WiFi is 'N', seems to be a fairly aged LinkSys AP that I have no access to.

Any suggestions please?

I had this issue just as lockdown hit here (UK)

Planet were closed during lockdown, so in the meantime I used speakerphone pretty much all the time, but if you dial down the volume you can use it like a normal phone.

The only option I had (and I went through all sorts), was to return it to Planet for repair which they were very happy to do and it only cost me to send it to them. Had it back in less than a week, but of course it took me longer to restore all my apps & data

Get in touch with Planet soon as, at least then the fault is logged with them
