egg8178,

it would be great if you could post the de-junked Opera or point me to a web page with it. I'm definitely NOT going to use the voice command option.

Thanks in advance.

P.S.: I also removed libpdf from the plugin directory, another Meg of memory saved.... I actually moved it to a backup directory on my SD card, just in case.

Here you go,    glad can help, hope 6k will live longer with our own community support, it will be great if xjqian can show the info how to make the ipk installation to SD instead of memory, thanx in advance

Hello guys,

let's see if I can revive this thread...

I just installed Opera 7.55 on my SL-6000 with original Sharp ROM. Everything works fine, although as expected it refused to be installed on CF or SD and I had to put it on the Internal Flash. No big deal, I can live with that, even though I was hoping I could install it on CF/SD so that for a while I could have both version 7.25 and 7.55 for comparison purposes.

At any rate, here are my questions for those with more experience than me:

1. I was expecting to end up with more or less the same space occupied on the Internal memory (7.55 installed should mean 7.25 removed, right?) I have instead about 3Mb MORE occupied compared to when I had the "stock" Opera 7.25. Is it because some of the old files have to be removed manually or rather is it Opera 7.55 just a bigger installation? Reading through this thread all the comments about the voice command function makes me thing it is just Opera 7.55 being bigger....

2. Is there any way to "trick" Opera (or any other program for that matter) into being installed on CF/SD even it would have to go on the internal memory? With Opera 7.55 installed I'm a little over 18Mb taken on the Internal memory, I'd like to keep it lighter if possible.

Thanks in advance for any suggestion.

Tosa rocks.............

In a previous post for OZ some one mentioned that 'Please note that this is for an SD-card install... and you should remove or edit the postinst for any other install destination.' in [a href=\"https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=15885]https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=15885

I haven't try or attempt to modify the mentioned file, hack, i don't even know where is the posyinst..   so, for all the 'remaining' experienced 6k user, can some one check if installation to SD is possible? also i have a copy of the extracted opera 7.55 without all the junk, ofcourse no voice command as well, let me know if anybody need it.

Thanks.
P/S: did someone notice that on sharp's site, it says re-launching the development project, i'm not sure, i saw that in the link in opera 7.55 home page, but got redirected right after that.

Edit: my bad, it says 2002, apparently the site has not been updated in decades.. i felt left out being a 6k user..

- Looks great, except no keyboard.  If I wanted my Z to stay at home, or carry around an USB keyboard everywhere I go, I'd just bring the laptop.  (grin)  It also looks just a touch large for my taste ... not nearly as convenient to tote 24x7 like the Z.
- Nice article, though.  Thanks for pointing it out.
- I see that I'm not intelligent, however.  (sniffle)  I couldn't read the Japanese!

6000 - Tosa / Rom Discussion On Tosa
« on: March 06, 2006, 11:25:16 pm »
Nevarrie,
It would be really nice if you could share your experience in using pdaxrom on the 6k, esp the wifi part, thank you, and i understand that we can actually dual boot the pdaxrom from sd so to keep the stock in internal flash?

can someone point out the + and - of doing so?

p/s: it's really been quiet around here (6k) and i really envy all the attention others (3k, 1k) have..

I am starting to play with running pdaxrom with enlightenment17.

[img]http://www.thegrantclan.org/images/zaurus/pdaxrom_e17_kopi.jpg\" border=\"0\" class=\"linked-image\" /]

I currently have USB networking so that I can uses x11vnc to control the 6k while it is in the cradle.

KOPI has imported my ics file so I have access to my currect calender.  The lack of Pi-sync bothers me a little both as of e17 ont he z I so far find it very nice and responsive.

The screen rotate button int he ibar works great.  I was not able to get matchbox to rotate the 6k(at least I coudl nto find how).

The escreenshow module does not work.

Teh battery meter shows 100, 75, 50 , 25 but also show how many minutes it believe I still have left.  I am not sure how accurate it issince I have nto been timing it.

Suspend works from teh power button.  Every time so far this weekend it has returned without a problem but I currently have everythign installed locally and not on a cf or sd card.

I am currently still trying to get Wifi working.

I hope to get wifi working in the next couple of days.

Just though I would put inthat info about using pdaxrom on the 6k...

6000 - Tosa / Weird Behavior Of Wifi In Sl-6000
« on: August 10, 2005, 09:19:35 pm »
Dear all,

Does anybody here know how to test the wifi hardware whether it's functioning?
I can connect to my AP just fine all these while, recently it just stopped working for me. I tried the D+P trick, selected the "CHECKWLAN" under the zaurus test, only with "wlan0 attach" displayed back to me.. nothing else

Is there anyother way to test the hardware? I even disabled all WEP and resetting the router, nothing work..

installing kismet and set up the adhoc network will change the mac address and shows connected with wifi lights flashing, but can't detect any network even when i'm standing right infront of the router..

please, help~

Thanks in advance.

6000 - Tosa / Weird Behavior Of Wifi In Sl-6000
« on: August 05, 2005, 10:18:25 am »
Hi,
I'm in the same kind of trouble.. can you elaborate more about going into the maintenance mode? after running CheckWLAN, what did the screen shows? Mine just displayed a line "WLAN attach" and stopped, pressing cancel or OK doesn't help, I have to reset..

Thanks in advance.

Hi,
I want to report some weird behaviour of my sl-6000L. I am using the Sharp Rom 1.12 with no special tweaks.

The other day, suddenly wifi stopped working (small icon in systray showed red arrow)  . I had that once before and rebooting solved the problem. However not this time. I found out that starting the network applet did not load the modules (prism2_usb and p80211) and dmesg reported that 'hub.c could not attach devices' (cannot recall precise error messages). Becoming somewhat desperate I reflashed my 2-days-old nand backup: no effect. Flashed newly downloaded SHARP rom: no effect. Formatted in maintenance mode: no effect. Take out the battery for some time: no effect, etc, etc  .

Just before I was going to throw z6000 in the WindowsBin I tried the ZAURUS TEST option (10) of the maintenance mode (reset with d+p key, screen 4). This menu has a couple of scarying options, one of them being CheckWLAN (9). Running this option made the beautiful wifi-green led (had no seen it flashing ever since the problem started) blink at me and gave me hope. After closing the menu and resetting/rebooting the red arrow in the network applet has disappeared and wifi worked again (just in time)    .

I have no idea what caused the problem, and how to avoid it in future (or how to solve it in an easier way).

Hope this info is of some use for zauriers who run into the same problem.

Security and Networking / Howto: Ambicom Bt2000c Working On Z
« on: June 06, 2005, 10:01:22 pm »
hi, tried the instruction given above, while using the bluez-zaurus_2.3-2.4.18d_arm.ipk from https://www.oesf.org/index.php?title=Bluetooth, everything seems fine until step 5,  I got the same error msg as mgaughan "At step 5, /etc/rc.d/init.d/bluetooth start I get the following error -
Starting Bluetooth subsystem: hcid sdpCan't open RFCOMM control socket: no such file or directory rfcomm."

if I use the ipk listed above, at first step, "depmod -a" returned
"depmod:*** Unresolved symbol in /lib/modules//2.4.18-rmk7-pxa3-embedix/kernel/net/bluetooth/bnep/bnep.o"

and ofcourse, the step 5 error as well..

did I miss something obvious?

Thanks for your time

Security and Networking / Howto: Ambicom Bt2000c Working On Z
« on: June 03, 2005, 07:48:30 pm »
Thanks for the info, but I already bought and opened the bt2000c.. too late to do a return.. well, but according to https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showt...0575&hl=bt2000c cacko does support this card, guess I'll just have to wait for the cacko to be available for the SL-6000L then, and btw,  shouldn't https://www.oesf.org/index.php?title=Bluetooth_Card_Support be updated to reflect that bluez currently has no support for bt2000c? because I bought it after checking there, just don't wish any newbie would make the same mistake as I did..

Thanks tumnus, appreciate what you did for a newbie like me
