Off Topic forum / Looking For A Gaming Console
« on: November 17, 2007, 08:44:50 am »

I'm not much of a gamer and thus I lnow nothing about it.
Now my kids want a gaming console and are asking me for advice cause "I work with computers" (doesn't everybody nowadays ?) and because I have a Zaurus (OK, not everybody has one).

Now, from what I found on the www, I could go for (ps1), ps2, xbox, wii, ... but then they are tied to the tele.
I more like Nintendo DS, PSP, ??? (any other choices ?) cause that way they can also use it in the car or while someone else is watching tele.

I keep on asking google some questions and it gives me loads and loads of pages, but what are the pros and cons of these consoles ?
I already found that Nintendo DS plays GBA-roms. Does PSP do this as well ?
PSP's screen has a higher res, Nintendo's screen seems to be better protected (clamshell).

How about the games and their prices ? From what I see the same games seem to be cheaper for Nintendo DS. Why's that ?

Can a PSP play PS1, PS2, PS3 games ? My three brothers own PS1, PS2 and PS3 so it would be nice to play their games ...

From what I know now, balance is going towards Nintendo DS.
Please comment or answer my questions,

From a complete gaming-noob in search for a gaming device,

Debian / Gnumeric On Eabi
« on: November 11, 2007, 01:55:25 pm »

I've got a problem with gnumeric on eabi :
When importing an xls (95) I get the following message :
**(gnumeric:26547): CRITICAL **: workbook_iteration_tolerance: assertion 'tolerance >= 0' failed

(26547 is the process number - the real error are the iterations)
All the "number" cells have strange values. (e.g. 0:30 changes to 0:02) and all reals change really high numbers (E8 or E12).

Anyone has noticed this ?
Anyone has a clue ?

It seems to be an old problem rising again :

This doesn't happen on oabi (Titchy).

Debian / Working Packages On Eabi
« on: November 06, 2007, 04:12:49 pm »
I keep on reading about broken eabi packages, but I can install most I want, so this thread is to report what works !

xfce4 + goodies (mousepad, Terminal, thunar)
icewm and icewm-experimental
dates - contacts - tasks (pimlico)
python and python apps (TaskCoach)

Thanks to the-never-sleeping-ZDevil :

That's all I can think of right now,

Debian / The Wiki
« on: October 30, 2007, 03:45:18 pm »
Hi all,

I keep on reading through these threads about "the" wiki or "a" wiki. I found info about debian eabi and oabi on 7 different sites this evening (one about wifi, one about setup, one about basic settings, another one about feeds to use or ripping angstrom packages, ...)

"Where is the wiki ?" is a question many people will ask.

So, where is it ?

(we could pin this thread when all questions have been answered)

Debian / What Does The On/off Button Do
« on: October 06, 2007, 11:12:35 am »
As the title says,

Can I do the same from command line as if I'd press the power button ?

I have a C1000 with a power button that lets me down every now and then, causing the Z to freeze. It's not debian related, it happens in pdaXrom, Angstrom, debian eabi and titchy. I haven't tried the sharp-rom, but I suppose it would be the same.

I see the screen dropping to a "console" on my C3100, then I see it "stopping tasks" before power turns off. When I use apm --suspend it doesn't do that.
Does anybody know what command/script I have to look for ?

Debian / Kernel 2.6.22
« on: October 03, 2007, 02:15:23 pm »
For those who haven't been following the Bluetooth thread, I switched to kernel 2.6.22

Where is the kernel :
I downloaded the latest spitz images from the angstrom site.
Then I first copied the modules from the hdimage1.tgz to the correct place.
I put together with ZImage.bin on an SD card and flashed the new kernel.
(don't put the hdimage on the card !!!!)

Get it from :
And take this one :
  • Angstrom-x11-office-image-glibc-ipk-2007.9-test-20070917-spitz-installkit.tgz 17-Sep-2007 10:29 45M

What are the first impressions :

- Not sure whether speed is different - I haven't been testing this.
- The mouse is still "rotated".
- both my wifi cards are recognized out of the box, without having two interfaces (wlan0 and wifi0)
- my bluetooth-CF forces the serial_cs module to load without errors and jpmatrix's card seems to work now (it didn't before)
- sound : I'll check that one

- it doesn't seem to break anything

so in general I think it has some benefits.

Debian / Titchy On All Clamshell-models
« on: October 03, 2007, 02:56:56 am »

I was wondering :
- titchy seems to use the Angstrom kernel
- Angstrom supports altboot

What if I
- created a .tar.gz of my root on the C3100
- flashed angstrom and installed altboot on my C1000
- used the .tar.gz of the C3100 to create a loopback image on an SD to use with altboot on the C1000

Would it be possible ?

Thoughts and comments are welcome.

Debian / Debian On C3xxx (merged Topics)
« on: September 18, 2007, 01:09:37 pm »

I had no hits when searching for "titchy" here, so I thought I'd mention it exists.

Titchy homepage

It is a debian arm system that comes with very nice instructions and an installer.
(it's not armel, no need to compile you're own kernel, no ... - it justs works)

Those looking for native debian on the Z, this seems to be it.

Have fun,

Site Suggestions, Requests, and Updates / New "rom" Forum
« on: September 16, 2007, 02:55:36 pm »

Any chance on adding a new "ROM"-forum for debian eabi or armel or whatever you want to name it ?
I'm testing this on a second unit, but have some questions.
Now there is a thread in the pdaX-forum and another one somewhere else, but they are too long to search for specific things.

InSearchOf, I'm in search of a new ROM support and discussion forum ...
