All of mine are gathering dust (no they are not, they are safely stowed away) for years now, let me check which models I actually have left, from memory there's a 6000 (not clamshell), a 3000, and a 750 w/ expanded battery. Will fill out the details, when I'm home.

Great, mostly interested in the 750.

Having fun,
Chero.

Ubuntu / Multikernel Won't Flash On My Device

Well managed to fix the problem:

* Angstrom installed (deleted
* Cacko, very nice, but somehow outdated
* PdaXrom, the Uboot installation didn't let me Zaurus boot, so restored the NAND.
* Tried to install the multikernel booter again, and it worked!
* Running Zubuntu, but the mouse isn't working well, it keeps drawing selection forms, so I can't click a thing.
Any ideas?

Not yet, still working on some things

Cannot flash the multikernel... it keeps asking for the tools...

Try to use the Angstrom updater script, but only put the script and "zImage.bin" (= multibootkernel) on the card.

Ahh thanks.

Yeah putted in the subtitle that it´s for a 860.
Is it possible that I can´t flash through SD card?
Compact flash does work though

SD should work, but only when you use one smaller than 1Gb, and correctly partitionned and formatted. It can be a real pain to find the correct "settings" for an SD to be able to use it to flash. (I'm sure it works, I use an SD to flash)

If you have a CF, use that one to make life easier.

Just a tip :
It helps if you tell people what device you are trying to flash, maybe put it in your sig.

Good luck,

But when I try to flash to the Mulitkernel it won't work.
It doesn't go past the Runtime 5...

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Are you using the correct kernel for your device ?

I've just sent you an email containing the flash script and kernel I used on the 860 you're trying to flash ...

also check this site : http://home.arcor.de/bnsmb/public/htdocs/z...he_SL_C760.html
(in German, but easy to read even if you don't speak German)

For Sale / Wanted / [sold] Sl-c760 Or Sl-c860 For Sale
« on: June 08, 2009, 02:44:46 am »
Goeiemorgen,
Good morning,

No intrest in the Wiz (no keyboard), sorry. Seems to be a great device for gamers though.
I want a device for editing spreadsheets and to take my portabase-files with me (with keyboard). The Zaurus does that job very well and I believe the Pandora will do it even better. The fact you can also play games on it, especially retro-games, is a big plus but not my main goal to use it.

About the 150 Euro offer : I'm willing to send it to you but if you prefer to pick it up that's OK for me as well.

Groeten,
Chero.

Ubuntu / Zubuntu Wifi/internet
« on: March 27, 2009, 03:53:40 am »
The card is recognised and the interface "wlan0" is created.

Now you need to configure "wlan0"
For this you can edit your "/etc/network/interfaces" file. More help on what to put in there can be found on the ubuntu forums.

You can also configure it manually by using "iwconfig" (use "iwconfig --help" to check the options), but you'd have to do this each time you want to use it.
If you have an open system (no security at all) using dhcp and you know the name (essid) of the access point, you could simply go for :
setup the cards wireless options :
"iwconfig wlan0 essid <name goes here> mode managed"
followed by
"ifup wlan0"

Tip :
What is your system on NAND ? I'm using Angstrom there. I simply set up my wifi using the gui when running Angstrom and then copied over /etc/network/interfaces to my zubuntu card.
Now all I have to do is "ifup wlan0" and I'm connected.

Can anybody tell me how they are connecting to the internet with zubuntu, Ive got the linksys wcf11 compact flash card but im having no luck at the moment. Any other ideas i would be interested in.

Regards

Whykick
do a "dmesg" in a terminal right after inserting the card, then post the last 10 lines over here.
That might give us a clue about what's going on.

Are there any lights flashing on the card ?

maybe check "dmesg" first.

What does appear in dmesg after inserting the card ?

Just doing "ifup wlan0" or another interface might be enough to fix the problem.

Yeah, ive installed backtrack onto my zaurus 6gb microdrive, just need some help on tryiny to boot the thing up. The install went perfect just like you would on a laptop hdd, its just that it doesnt boot up from it, fat32 is the formatt of a stanard zaurus microdrive so all i did was to reformatt it in the same, i didnt mean i formatted in fat32 for th zubuntu install.

Thanks

Whykick

It seems you're on the wrong track.
When you put the microdrive in a desktop or laptop, I'm sure you can install a live cd on it. But it will never run on the zaurus. You can only use this to run it on a desktop or laptop (X86).
The zaurus uses a different cpu (arm), it is a different system. A bad comparison, but look at it as a pocketpc or a psp or a nintendo ds or a phone. You can't run apps that are made for pocketpc, nintendo DS, psp, phone on a desktop or laptop and you can't run apps made for the desktop/laptop on the pocketpc or the nintendo DS. It just doesn't work.
The zaurus is a bit the same (but different). You can't run apps made for the desktop or laptop. However, there is a specific ubuntu port where they recompiled all the apps so they CAN run on the zaurus. But only when you use these recompiled apps (they are remade for "arm" or "armel" systems).

The zaurus microdrive had a large fat32 partition, but the standard system only uses this to put data on it. When you want an operating system or apps to run from it, you need to reformat it to ext2 or ext3.

To put a new system on the zaurus, you have to "flash" it. More on this can be found in the wiki. Things like live-CDs or installer disks won't work. They are made for X86 and don't exist for "arm" systems. Flashing usually works with 3 files : the script (fash instructions), the kernel (the heart of the system) and the base-system (basic apps to get started).

Once ubuntu runs, you can use it in the same way as on your laptop or desktop, only installation is a bit different.

So :
- To flash your zaurus with the multiboot kernel : check the wiki, I can't put it any clearer.
- To get ubuntu going : follow the instructions on the omegamoon blog, I can't put it any clearer.
