Do you have an ebay account as you have only just joined zaurususergroup and therefore I have no guarantee if purchasing by post?

Is there any other way I would have of guaranteeing who you are and that you do in fact have this zaurus?

Does it have a screen protector fitted and is there a case included for it? I might be interested if these 2 items are included. I would not require the wireless card and SD card though as I am looking to upgrade from a 5500 Zaurus.

Let me know. I am in the Manchester area so it is too far to meet to collect.

By the way I just noticed there is a bootstrap image aswell for Collie users but Corgi has bootstrap, opie and gpe images. Anyone know when Collie users can get hold of Opie image. Release date is supposed to be before christmas so get testing.

Anyone else tried Familiar 0.8 pre yet. Based on OZ GPE. I had a quick try earlier and it was very usable considering the last GPE rom I installed on my 5500. I didn't have time to download any packages for it so my experience was only with the base install from www.handhelds.org . I tried setting network connection with wireless card and although I could get it connected with WEP while docked in USB configuration went astray when disconnected from USB. The feeds are available but as I said I didn't have time to test.

OK, I've setup the security settings Ok and I have access to the zaurus through network connection. I tried installing Intellisync from original 5500 CD (Version 1.43E) and when I ran synchronise the Zaurus saw the incoming connection and asked if I wanted to allow this. Once I clicked yes it started and then complained that the version of Intellisync on my PC was different. I have tried the latest Intellisync but get no response when running synchronise. Which version should I be using with OZ to synch with Outlook?

PS I really like the latest Hentges Rom from 'donotuse' folder as it has many applications already installed to SD card and any fixes already applied. If I can get this to synch and install a working web browser I will be happy.

As I said in my post I had network setup correctly and could ping Z but I never looked in the Security Icon as I never use the security on SharpRom and therefore did not think to look there for PC Link or Sync settings. Thanks Franky G and Mahoro for your input. I will give the latest Hentges 3.5.2 a try as I have read good things about it on this board with most problems already solved within the Rom and a default program install to SD card.

On another note I tried to install KO/PI during my last attempt with OZ 3.5.2 but came across problems installing the libs. Does anyone use KO/PI on a regular basis on a 5500 and if so what are your comparisons with default OPIE Pim programs.

Hi all,

I have tried various versions of OZ including the latest 3.5.2 (Not tried Hentges version yet but may try if problem can be resolved). I mainly use as PIM but like to try things out. I don't know linux very well but I am a PC engineer and can work my way around most PC problems. I have my calendar and contacts synched between Outlook 2003 on WinXP and SharpRom at the moment and it works flawlessly. Whenever I try out one of the OZ Roms I try and get the Z to synch but never have any luck and always run out of time before I need my Z as a PIM again and reflash to SharpRom. I have tried using Intellisync 1.43e and setting network manually. I can ping my Z and I can configure Z to wireless network and access internet but I cannot get my data back into Z. I have tried using QTopia desktop instead of Outlook and tried KO/PI but cannot seem to make a connection between any program. If I use the sync button on cradle nothing happens. If I use synchronise option from whichever program it just waits for Zaurus but never responds. Any help would be greatly appreciated before I give up on OZ altogether.

I have the problem you describe on my 5500 but it is a known problem when you install the cacko patched kernel. You can test for this by restarting the zaurus. If the startup screen is a penguin then you have the patched kernel installed. If so it is worth sticking with it because of the better battery monitor. If you have a sharp startup screen then you may have a different problem as SharpROM 3.13 does not have this problem by default. Check the battery monitor aswell. If your monitor has a limited amount of readings such as 100/70/50/20% then that is the original SharpROM and battery monitor.

 Well I have no problem syching my 5500 running 3.13 rom to Outlook on XP SP2. I didn't experience any issues when I upgraded. I use Norton Firewall so just turned off Windows Firewall.

Have you tried disabling the windows firewall for the network connection to the zaurus? Do you have any other firewall software installed? If so disable all firewall software and try agian.

I would be interested but cannot afford an upgrade from my sl5500 just yet. I have been watching a few 860s going on ebay for a while and was tempted by one that went for about £330. If only Sharp would drop the price a bit then I would definitely upgrade. I have used a few different Roms on the 5500 but always go back to Sharp 3.13 due to problems getting sync working to Outlook on PC. I have contacts and calendar sync and also have wireless internet/email or link to mobile using GPRS when out and about. I like the look and feel of OZ 3.51 but don't have the time to get sync working and find internet/email progs that work as well as QTMail and Opera. I would love to try an 860 and run QTRDesktop at 640x480, but I will just have to wait for a while.

Sharp ROMs / tkcRom 1.0 vs 2.0 alpha?

I was running 2.0 alpha 3 but found that you couldn\'t backup to CF or SD. The only way to backup was using the PC Zaurus backup software. I found that Zaurus would lock up occasionally. When rebooting following a lock up an error occurred (can\'t remember what) and I would have to reflash and restore. I have since changed back to SharpRom 3.13 with Cacko Kernel for APM. This is a lot more stable with the only issue being the battery light flashing sometimes when connected to power. This is well documented on this forum and the fix is to disconnect and suspend Zaurus before reconnecting. Anyway I know that TKCRom 1.0 can backup but not sure of any other differences to 2.0.

Sharp ROMs / Hybrid Rom Qtopia 1.6.2

Hi Maslovsky,

I did try Qtopia Desktop from Trolltechs site. The version currently available for download is 1.7. I tried this but it wouldn\'t connect to Z. I then found versions 1.6, 1.6.1 and 1.6.2 from the FTP site but none of these would connect to Zaurus either. All try for about 15 seconds to connnect but then fail. I have set the general settings to the IP address of the zaurus but still no luck.

Hi,
You can set Exchange Server to act as a pop3 server and use the default email client in Zaurus. Otherwise you can use Outlook Web Access by browsing with Opera to (Servername/IPAddress)exchange
The Web Access is part of Exchange 2000/2003 but may not be installed/enabled on your server.
