Cosmo Communicator - CoDi / Re: CODI batterey life
« on: October 25, 2021, 02:22:19 pm »
Since I decided that battery life is more important to me than quick access to cosmo in closed state, beside watch provide most of this access anyway, I also started to turn codi off.

And then when I turned it back on on few occasions, I noted that the time it takes to bring it up is actually quite short - several seconds. So it does not seem to be in complete power off state.

That brought me to idea that if the silver button instead of turning codi screen off would do the same function as turning codi itself off/on through the settings/quick access, that would allow to use codi without much sacrifice on function and with good power savings.

I am not sure how to pitch this idea to PC, and not sure if they would really care. I might try to create such service for android myself, but it might take a while before I get some free time for that. If someone here will get inspired by this idea and proceed with implementation that would be great

Cosmo Communicator - Android / Re: Keyboard Bounces

Probably my next effort would be removing dead key to try cleaning under it.
This task turned out quite easy and rewarding. I popped up the key cap by sliding guitar pick under its side. Under the key I found white rubber(?) mat with a circular whole in it for key stem. Lifting up a corner of the mat revealed that underside of mat  has a circular black  ring under which there is a matching shape of shiny metal (copper?) surfaces separated in two halves. It appears that black ring is conductive and is pressed against the metal surface on key press.
I did not observe any suspicious debris on those matching surfaces, but nevertheless I wiped them with q-tip soaked in isopropyl alcohol. Then after putting the key back and turning on device I found that previously dead key register each and every press reliably.
Having done that I now would recommend against bashing intermittent keys no matter how emotionally satisfactory that would feel. Cleaning keyboard mat and contact points does seem to resolve the problem reliably. Although cleaning inner keys might require removing multiple keys caps.

Bashing a key (hitting it hard) several times used to resolve my problems with intermittent keys for a while - I had most problems with "Del" and "7". Today my "Del" key stopped working dead, no bashing within my physical limits restores its function.
Probably my next effort would be removing dead key to try cleaning under it.

Cosmo Communicator - CoDi / Re: Codi firmware 1.1.1.16

I do notice that I can get an on-CoDi kind-of keyboard to quickly jump to a particular letter in my contacts, rather than being forced to scroll all the way. Not sure how long that has been there, as I rarely make phone calls from the CoDi, or at all, for that matter.
I am on 1.1.1.15 and letter navigation is there, I think it was available for a long time already.

For me updating codi took 4 tries in airplane/dnd mode, after which the assistant reported that codi does not respond. After (cold) restart it came up just fine.

I noted that with this update right after restart the free memory settles for me at 3.79GB out of 5.63 (as reported by T-UI status line). I kind of remember it used to be higher than 4GB before, but maybe thats false memory and I have installed since something that backgrounds and eats memory

I use it with ATT in midwest. Works reasonably well

Yesterday was exactly one year from the day when my cosmo has arrived. On this day it decided to celebrate the anniversary by developing a problem responding to "Escape" key - I now have to apply a lot of force and try to press at different angles in order for that key to register. This added symmetry to already similarly intermittent "Del" key in the opposite corner of keyboard. Given the importance of "Escape" key my daily driver experience went up few notches on torture scale.

After this one full year I would certainly advice anyone against acquiring this sad device. And am I glad I had enough sense to pull back my impulse contribution to the next "Planet Computers" campaign on idiegogo.

On my unrooted device I just disabled "Air mail" in application settings and it does not show up in my laucnher (tui) any more. I also disabled "Digital wellbeing" - this did not show in launcher before, but after disabligng the related setiing section is inactive.

Fn-Shift-N and Fn-Shift-B are keyboard shortcuts to increase/decrease keyboard backlight. Accidentally, these keys are also used for adjusting display intensity (with Fn alone), and are marked as such. You can locate N key by touch in the dark due to its right edge aligned with right edge of space key.

I've had my Cosmo for around a week now, and can, rather unfortunately, say that i won't be using it as my daily driver / phone. [...]

But its just too inconvinient, having to open the device to get things done. Which is why i think their next device, the Astro is the best possible solution to this type of device. Its the best of both worlds.

If CODI would live to its promise, then you would not even had this topic started. The promise was that you could handle all your urgent phone tasks such as answering phone call or message, playing your music, navigating and all such, from the external screen (CODI), without opening the device.

The reality turned out to be unresponsive slab with the life of its own in your pocket, making calls, switching various setting and abusing fingerprint scanner -- all on its own agenda (and sucking a lot of battery juice at that). Sure we can still hope that manufacturer will fix it. But I would say you can expect just the same from their next model - nice promises. There will be next "Black hole galaxy whatever" after astro, where the next promise will go, and the astro will be just another unfulfilled bastard of crowdfunding...

Sorry for bad mood, covid and all that flows with it, you know...

I even feel that the Cosmo is easy and steady to handle in portrait mode when needed.

I actually find the same: here is an example browsing ebay site in firefox holding the device vertically in left hand while flipping pages by pressing space bar with the thumb of right hand

I can confirm that the random locking issue is still there.
Interesting you mention it. I have not had random locking problem through my life with v19 firmware until this week. I actually forgot about this problem. But during my epic upgrade to v22 (which took a whole working day, mind you, due to permanent failed update of codi), I switched my home app from T-UI to whatever terrible google-search-taunting default contraption the PC provides, thinking that maybe T-UI was the reason of failures of codi updates. That did not proved true, but I immediately started to get those random lock ups once i let PC default home app take over my device. Eventually in the end of day codi update completed and I switched back to T-UI as home app, and random locking is all gone again, not a problem any more

Autorotate does not work for me. Not on main screen. On codi it worked on v19.
It's working for me.  Perhaps you need to re-enable it?  Remember, there are 2 places it needs to be enabled, Android settings and the Planet menu bar settings.
That was it, thank you!
I sure would not find it myself -- not very obvious that the settings of planet app bar affect other applications.

Update from v19 went without issues, CODI took some retries (manual is definitely the way to go). Auto rotate finally seems to be working.

I actually did not notice any functional changes after update thus far, except version numberand security patch date.

After update to Codi v13...
If you are talking about latest update - that one has version v14. Maybe your update failed and you need to keep trying
