Themes, Icons, and Backgrounds / Backgroups pics for lanscape and portrait
« on: November 20, 2004, 02:28:15 pm »
how do you get a backgroup picture that looks good in both orientations?  I've tried several landscape type pics on my 860 - even high res 1600*1200 and they work fine in landscape, but when you switch to portrait mode they always have the top of the pic reproduced below the main pic.

I'm looking for 2 things.

1. a good editor with syntax highlighting for java

2. how to enter a curly brace - there is no key for this on my 860 keyboard

Thanks

Sharp ROMs / What is pinned note on Calendar ?
« on: November 17, 2004, 10:17:46 am »
On the calendar on the cacko rom (1.21b) there are what looks like little pinned notes on some of the days.  I haven't figured out what these correspond to.  They don't seem to relate to the todo items, as days with todo items sometimes have the little notes and sometimes don't.

Any ideas?

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Decoding dates in datebook xml
« on: October 28, 2004, 10:04:46 pm »
Anyone know the magic algorithm to decode the datetimes in the databook.xml file?

for instance start="1098745200"  means 2004 October 25, 7:00 pm.

How do these work?

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Partition sizing ????
« on: September 22, 2004, 08:16:06 am »
I'm sorry but I've posted this several times in different forums.  I can only assume that not everyone reads all the forums.  Unfortunately, I've never gotten an answer.

When installing a new rom, i have the option of changing the size of the partition. It seems that there are both root (or system?) and user partitions. What are these used for?

Basically, what are the partitions in the Zaurus (without considering SD or CF cards) and what is put in those partitions by default?  It seems this is important so one can consider what size to use.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Partition sizing

I've asked this before (actually just the other day over in general discussion), but never got the answer I was looking for.

When installing a new rom, i have the option of changing the size of the root partition. It seems that there are both root and user partitions. What are these used for? Is one just for the rom so it should be as small as possible? If I make the root partition as big as possible, will that stop me from copying files to my home directory?

Basically, what are the partitions in the Zaurus (without considering SD or CF cards) and what is put in those partitions by default?

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Kernel panic: Attempted to kill init!
« on: September 20, 2004, 09:27:56 pm »
I just tried to flash OZ 3.5.1 and it looked like it was doing the right thing.  The two 0 to 100% lists of dots did their thing and then I got a message "switching to runlevel 6"  and then something else and then it rebooted.

All looked normal so far.

Then pages and pages of text flash by. I am left with a screen with:

Quote
.
.                             (tons of text)
.
Backtrace:
Function Entered at [<c00b99b0>] from [<c00b9504>]
.
.
.                             (much more of this sort of thing)
.
.
Code: 0a0000003 e59f029c ebfdd779 e3a03000 (e5033000)
Kernel panic: Attempted to kill init!

Any ideas?  I have an 860 and used the Huskey image.  I did the flash by removing the power and battery, waiting 10 secs, put back battery, plugged in, pressed OK and on button, option 4, then Yes, then waited and the above is what I got.

Oops - late breaking news.  After about 3 minutes I got the following

Quote
apm_console_blank: blank=1
apm_console_blank: blank=0

Do I just wait this out?  Is this normal?

Zaurus - pdaXrom / 1.0.5 vs 1.1.0 feed compatability
« on: August 19, 2004, 12:05:55 pm »
I tried out pdaxrom rc1 and I love it.  I'm looking forward to the official release.

One question though.  Can I use packages from www.pdaxrom.org/feed with 1.1.0 RC2 or do I need to wait until they have been recompiled?

Zaurus - pdaXrom / whoo hoo - WCF12 connectivity - (bug)
« on: August 19, 2004, 10:32:39 am »
This may also be a bug report - I don't know where to submit them though.

I got my Linksys WCF12 working and connected to the internet on my 860 using the RC2.

I used the Lan & Wifi applet and set wireless to use my essid.  However when I did a iwconfig everything looked ok except the essid was blank

I had to do it manually

iwconfig eth0 essid XXXX
ifconfig eth0 up
dhcpcd eth0

(I don't know if that last command was needed - I was going according to an old post)

Now I've got connectivity so I can convert from tkc.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Root partition size question - min vs max
« on: August 19, 2004, 09:12:33 am »
Hi, I'm a little confused.  I'm loading the new pdaxrom (which looks fabulous BTW) and I see a lot of different ideas about what size to repartition to.

some try to get the minimum size ~ 40 megs, some want to use the max ~121 megs.

What are the pros and cons.  Is minimum better for loading more apps vs user files or visa versa or what?

Zaurus - pdaXrom / default window sizing
« on: July 07, 2004, 09:31:33 am »
Is there any way to get apps to open with the main window maximized?

I find that most apps open with a default screen size larger than the zaurus screen (c860) and the first thing I have to do every time is to maximize it.
