6000 - Tosa / Zubuntu On Tosa
« on: July 17, 2009, 07:45:56 pm »
OK...i was able to extract the files as described on the blog.  Kexec kernel started fine, selected zubuntu, and off it started.  The biggest problem was no backlight.  I was able to tell when it stopped loading, so I did root and startx, and I think I saw the desktop.   Is it landscape by default?

No backlight.

Turned out to be a bad mount.  Created new topic (Zubuntu isn't angstrom, is it?)

I thought I'd create a new topic since what we're doing is more appropriate here.

Cortez has started work on getting Zubuntu to work on the tosa.  Details on his blog here.

I'm in the process of trying it out now.

I'm on my way to trying it, but just a quick note on extracting the rootfs onto an SD:
A lot of
Code: [Select]
Cannot create symlink to `': Operation not permittedtype errors.

More later...

Thanks Cortez, you're a major asset to this community!

Does this mean Zubuntu might follow shortly?? *nudge*

I asked on the mailing list, but didn't get a reply so I thought I'd ask here.

All of the 2008.x images in the autobuild dir are gone, and only kexec images are there.  I have used the narcissus images in the past successfully to boot Angstrom with either Opie or x11 for Tosa (via SD w/ kexec kernel).  Lately the images have not been completing the configuration of kernel modules.  In particular, kernel-module-zlib-inflate gets stuck (can't get past it - Tosa requires a reset).

I'm curious if anyone is still doing kernel dev for the tosa (it was lumaq {letic?}).  Is there any way to follow development if it is still going on?  I love the device, and I'd love to continue using it if I can.

Thanks,

Russell Dwiggins

New products and alternatives / Always Innovating Touchbook

Beautiful!  I was thinking of hacking something together like this.  A tablet is ideal for me.  I was thinking of illume as the ideal interface though.  They don't have any screenshots of the desktop or the 3d finger launchers...curious to see how that looks.

I'm bookmarking that page.

General Discussion / Palm Pre Hacked, Possible Port?
« on: June 15, 2009, 01:19:28 am »
Folks on OpenMoko mailing lists are saying that the Pre's OS is even more open than Android's.  There may be some hope yet!   Would be nice if the phone stack could work on the OM.  Still, the Pre uses a full keyboard, so an on-screen keyboard would need to be hacked in, i believe.

6000 - Tosa / How To Restore 6000 To Original State?
« on: February 06, 2009, 12:23:55 am »
My guess is it's the e-image.  Also, I don't think you'll be too happy with openzaurus anyway.  Not much development got completed for the Tosa there.  Much better now on Angstrom.  I'm working (slowly) on trying to get e to run on my tosa...I've got a post about it here.  e actually runs, but it's not responding to the touch screen.

Any reason to hope for development on Tosa? I know you mentioned it earlier...just hoping for an update.

6000 - Tosa / Angstrom + E-wm On Tosa
« on: January 15, 2009, 11:58:36 pm »
Thanks, I'll try that this weekend.  I can start e from the CLI...even via ssh...so I should have no problem getting some kind of output.  one thing I didn't try is to do something like
Code: [Select]
cat /dev/input/event0while e is running.  I did something like that before starting X, and got a response.

My guess is that e is not picking up any input from the device...so something is either missing or broken.  Nothing obvious during the startup of e.

Off Topic forum / Are Dual Monitors Useful?
« on: January 09, 2009, 07:42:29 pm »
It can be useful.  Main screen contains the work that you're doing, second screen contains the result of the work...you have a quick visual of any changes without having to flip between or tile windows.

Also, if your work takes up a lot of real estate, spreading the desktop between 2 (or more) monitors can help there as well.

Apparently some games are twin screen aware as well, which could be fun.

6000 - Tosa / Angstrom + E-wm On Tosa
« on: January 09, 2009, 01:33:37 am »
With help from Dmitri and others working on the kernel for the Tosa on Angstrom, things are starting to get interesting again!

I decided I'd like to start to play again.  I was able to get e-wm installed and it even starts up to the point where the language is asked for, but can get no further.

First thing: there is no language selectable on that screen...not sure if that even matters.

The killer: the screen is not registering touches...nor do any of the buttons or keys seem to do any selecting of items on the screen.

I've got tslib installed, but I'm wondering if there's anywhere these things get logged.  Can't find anything pertinent in dmesg.

Code: [Select]
tmio-nand tmio-nand: timeout waiting for interrupt
Don't think that's anything...

If anyone has any pointers on where to start looking, I'd appreciate it.

I think everything looks good so fart at this point except key repeat.   Once again, if I type www.google.com, I typically get wwwww.gooooogle.com.  This behavior showed up in previous kernels and has a bug filed.

Thanks again...and Happy New Year!!
