General Discussion / How To Build A Gprs Modem
« on: April 14, 2005, 01:21:33 am »
I had a good idea for those of you who (like me) want a gprs modem/phone for the zaurus.....

Why not just use an old clam shell phone?

[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=74885\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Or the easier way is to just use a phone with GPRS and Bluetooth (dirt cheap these days as the technology is at least 3 years old) and get a cheap bluemonkey card on ebay

I personally use a Sony Ericsson 3G V800 phone with bluetooth and I get 384kbit 3G speeds on my Z, it's great for VNC / terminal services / Remote X connections

Site Suggestions, Requests, and Updates / Archos Pma430 Forums?
« on: April 12, 2005, 06:44:01 pm »

Is it possible to set up an Archos PMA430 sub forum? This device uses Qtopia and I'm sure there would be benefit for users and developers of both the Zaurus and PMA430 having a forum for this device. It could benefit new users of PMA430 with advice from Zaurus owners and vice versa. There is a lot of dicussions about the PMA430 on yahoo groups, many questions asked would be better here and I just think it is more relevant having the one resource, oesf.

I have created a generic Archos forum, no doubt Archos will be creating further devices that rely on Qtopia. I plan to buy one of their AV320's at the end of the month, sweet hardware!

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Pdaxrom Rc9 Broke My Zaurus
« on: April 12, 2005, 06:27:28 pm »
ok, after reflashing back to RC9 everything is working fine... i just actually took the time to see if it was working before going and performing an ipkg upgrade.

never going to use that command on RC9 as that is what buggerd up it in the first place as i have just found out.

On another point... there are some programs that I installed from the RC9 feed in package manager that do not place a shortcut in say "Other" where the hell are my programs installed and how to I create a new shortcut for said programs?  Really annoying when it's not done for you during install, some programs do but most don't >.<

I installed the btscanner and can't find it anywhere... silly unix file system
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=74594\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

find / | grep btscanner

Will list all instances of btscanner on the Z (included mounted CF / SD cards)

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Startx Lost After "ipkg Update / Update
« on: February 01, 2005, 01:18:39 am »
I managed to get my wifi working again simply by running the wifi-lan GUI and setting the default mode as WiFi and saving the profile. If you can't even run the GUI then I don't know how you'll go about doing it. Sorry.

It's hosed my X and my wlan settings AND my wlan access altogether. cardctl ident reports a card but it's not working as a wifi card anymore. Ergo I'm left without a useful Z

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Kathrin RC8 Is Out..
« on: January 04, 2005, 03:55:41 am »
gene: I had that, I ended up having to use a WEP keyword instead of a hex key despite none of my other wifi devices letting me use a keyword, just one of those things I guess

Also, I'm having the input frozen after ntpdate then suspend, can someone issue details for a fix or can we have an ipk update? The only way I have found around it is to ssh in by wifi and kill X and restart it which is too crude for my liking.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Rc8, Bluetooth And Nokia 6310i
« on: January 01, 2005, 10:40:28 am »
That's fixed it, thanks tumnus, had to do a forced reset of the Nokia 6310i (pulling out the battery while the phone was still on) which then allowed me to pair it when I turned the phone back on. The result? I can now get on IRC at work

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Rc8, Bluetooth And Nokia 6310i
« on: January 01, 2005, 08:34:48 am »
Well I'll be honest, bluetooth support has always been flaky in pdaXrom, I've always had to edit hcid.conf and change the bluetooth pin helper to a shell script which echo's PIN:0000 to get it to pair with a phone.

Now since RC8 and possibly since the update IPKG's I am unable to pair a Nokia 6310i that I have paired multiple times in the past with other ROMs, so I know it's not a fault with the phone or the bluetooth card.

I have a BlueMonkey BlueCF card and all the bluetooth ipk's installed from the feed, still can't get it to work though.

The current setup I have right now is a shell script in /etc/bluetooth/ called givepin, in that shell script is only the line "echo PIN:0000" and hcid.conf points to that script file to provide the pairing pin, in the past this has worked fine up until RC8 (and yes the permissions are all set up correctly).

Anyone able to assist? I've exhausted everything I can think of.

Ps. I absolutely hate the pppconfig applet as it overwrites rfcomm.conf with whatever it feels like, please can we get that applet to prompt before overwrite? Not only that but the damn thing locks up whenever I try to add a bluetooth profile.
