Portabase - In place of a Syncable Palm Memo-like application. Are there *any* other options? Portabase works, but it's clunky - I really miss my Memo app

Take a look at notez . . might be what you are looking for.  Its worked as a memo replacement for me
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=70645\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

I took a look at Notez. It's a good start, but hardly feature complete. (No syncing ability).

I'm planning to do a more fully featured memo-like app as a warm up for a media database.

BilliardZ is really great, I'm still trying to get a configuration where I dont have to move the queue after the first shot and where one team wins in the end. It's for school, where I can't really play.

I'll riposte (hee hee) here after I've had a chance to see what I end up liking on the C1000, but during my 5500 days I've enjoyed the following

 General interest:

 - Console -- (Included with install CD)
 - Qtopia File Manager -- (Included with install CD)

 - Fdisk --  http://www.killefiz.de/zaurus/showdetail.php?app=205

 - Tree!Explorer QT -- http://www.killefiz.de/zaurus/showdetail.php?app=1631

 - Qtopia Alarm Clock -- http://qpealarmclock.sourceforge.net/

 - Wireless LAN Monitor -- http://www.killefiz.de/zaurus/showdetail.php?app=76

 - Kismet -- http://www.killefiz.de/zaurus/showdetail.php?app=1268
 - Kismet GUI -- http://www.killefiz.de/zaurus/showdetail.php?app=226

 - IRDA Applet -- http://www.killefiz.de/zaurus/showdetail.php?app=773

 Special Interest:

 -JavaDict (Japanese) -- http://www.killefiz.de/zaurus/showdetail.php?app=846
 - KanjiNirvava -- http://www.killefiz.de/zaurus/showdetail.php?app=171

 - PockeTop KB -- http://www.killefiz.de/zaurus/showdetail.php?app=836

That's all I can think of.  Now I'm really eager to hit the C1000!

*Bonus*

Movie Shrink&Burn - http://www.ashampoo.com/frontend/products/...ession_langid=2

This is a PC application, but I've used it with great success to shrink large movie files town to pocket friendly sizes (some of which I played on the Z)

KO/PI
- The cat's meow in terms of Calendaring on the Z, hands down.
KA/PI
- The cat's meow in terms of Address books on the Z, hands down.  Is there an echo in here?
PWM/PI
- Used zSafe for years, now I use this.  It's vastly better, overall, depsite some odd quirks, imho.  Since I have the source I'll likely do something about them, when they become annoying enough.  (wink)
NeoCal
- Finally bought this simply amazing little guy, instead of using the unlimited use freeweare version.  I've never looked for anything else.
StageOne
- Task list application that does percentage completion for you, supports multiple files, plus images and notes right in the ToDo.  KO/PI is better than most ToDo apps, but this is still my favorite.
JustReader
- Found this on this uber-list.  Great e-book reader!
QPDF
- Been using this as long as I've owned a Z.  Once I figured out how to get it to run in landscape on the C1000 I was very happy!  (snicker)
PortaBase
- Found this on this uber-list.  Reminds me of the database app on the Psion, which I've sorely missed for years and years.  Nice to have it back.
Opera
- Because it's better than any alternative I've tried.  Haven't done the Debian/Firefox combo yet.
QKonsole
- Very nice support for larger fonts, full-screen mode, and the ability to remove most of the useless "window dressing", make this beat out Konsole, my old command-line tool of choice.
Tree!Explorer
- Found on this uber-list.  VERY sweet app that I'll have to be registering, to have the "SendTo" style functionality.
SystemInfo
- Been using this as long as I've owned Z's, too.  It still doesn't show my kernel version correctly, but that's the minorest of minor things in this excellent tool.
Memory Applet
- Used to manage swap with it, now it's just a nice indicator of my memory usage.
Kalarm Applet
- Because it's part of the suite.  (grin)
Battery Applet
- Shows battery status in a little pop-up, instead of consuming the *entire* screen for something so simplistic.
BlueZ
- While not an app, per se, it is something I've installed, so it's included.  Very slick bluetooth implemention that I'd love to do a little coding on, if'n I could piece it all together somehow.

Asteroids
- From the SL-5000, which runs on the larger screen very nicely.  The "Menu" button even gives me shields, which *never* worked on the 5500.
NetHack
- At last I have this available again!  It refused to run symlinked to the SD card, and I didn't have enough main storage to load it on the 5500.  That's just no longer an issue.  (grin)
Barrage
- Nice little kill everything game, in a just wrong sort of way.  (snicker)  Kinda like Lemmings was, in that regard.
Marbles
- Nice brain buster whose only "fault" is very tiny text.  Doesn't affect playability in the least!
Mahjongg, Shisen-Sho, zIQ, zKnights, lTris, lGeneral, Go (SL-5500), BackGammon, Atomic, Word Game (SL-5500), Checkers, Mine Hunt (SL-5500)

Anything not explictly listed, I use the default apps for.  Music, word processing, spreadsheet, photos, etc, etc.  Haven't gotten 'round to looking for alternatives, yet.

Once I decided what I want in my Zaurus, should I install these applications in the Zaurus or in a SD card?
I also downloaded kdepin, but I don't know if it should be part of the ROM core or just in a SD card.
 Thank in advance.

It doesn't really matter. Install in main memory if you don't need the extra space, so you can take the card out and still have working apps.

Gotta go for the old apache, mysql and php combination. Along with a good text editor (currently using tkceditor for syntax highlighting) and phpwiki I have all the database, note taking, timeplanning apps I could wish for.

I've read with interest all the thread. Coming more from a business background, I found not much use to me on the more technical applications (I was probably a programmer in a past life, as I am "complicating myself" with a Zaurus), but found more and more business apps on your list. A couple of questions pop my mind:

1. What about Powerpoint, the viewer that comes with Hancom is very limited for real life business presentations. Is there any progress so far in this department?

2. I see much of the conversation do not reflect applications from TheKompany, I saw their site and it seems they have a lot of commercial applications. Is there any specific reason it is not mentioned here. In their site, they mention the SL-5500 which I have, but what about other models?

TextMaker: Word processing with all desktop features of MS Word and combatible to .doc.
Commercial 49.95$
Trial version also aviable.

TextMaker
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=62566\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

I had a look at TextMaker and it's so much more full-featured than Hancom Word. Am using the demo (no .doc or .rtf saving) right now. My wife and I are editors/writers and we needed an app with full support for styles and formatting.

... but $50 is steep. Really steep. I don't know if it's worth that much, or if it's just better to deal with the shortcomings of Hancom Word.

As for software, I'm reliant on a lot of what's already been mentioned and linked: Kismet, Gaim, qpdf, KDE-PIM/Pi (with KPhone) and Kino 2.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=66745\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Textmaker has been coming up on Ebay lately, in Linux (desktop version) form no less. I scored a copy for just $4.99, then asked the nice people at Textmaker if I could have the .ipk version and they obliged!!
