Cresho,

those packages are actually part of the xqt-gtk-jumbo.cramfs image so I am not sure why your setup needs to install them separately, but maybe you still had leftovers of those packages from previous installs. Unfortunately, I have found that xqt packages found on the xqt feeds do not uninstall cleanly.

It also appears that the files on the grinder have reverted back to the initial packages instead of the newer ones

I might be able to fix the 6000 rotation problem. I think the 5500 and 6000 require the older x server binary.  What does

Code: [Select]
cat /proc/cpuinfo|grep Hardware
return on a 6000 and 5500?

I think all you need is to install xqt-server_0.0.8_arm.ipk instead of the 0.0.9 which the clamshells need.

well!  I am not sure why but when i ran it from the rxvt terminal, it gaved me missing file errors and i search for them on the net.  I should of searched for them before i installed those files on my z.  the packages i stated had the files i needed to run abiword and gnumeric.  They run fine now.  Ill reconfirm this again on a clean slate.  Right now i have my hands full.  another time i was getting an error for a different file.  executing the xqt-install.sh reinitialized the missing file and so far, i have no expirience in seeing that missing file.

i hope somebody can help me confirm this.  Could be a  corrupt download on my part as well or a bad zaurus image i have on my pda.  if you read up, soundwave(sl-6000 which is not made for) was having problems as well with libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0  so i just posted it just incase.  Ill wait for the next crams images.  For now, all i care is using gimp to modify my jpeg pictures i have when "im on the go!"  I use textmaker for my doc and etc files.  I hope to use openoffice since im in a transition between windows to linux.  anyway man....the work here is very appreciated. and abiword works fine with the ipk i installed.

cat /proc/cpuinfo|grep Hardware returns:

Hardware: SHARP Tosa

If anyone could confirm that the two libraries mentioned is a problem on the C series as well, perhaps this would help. Myself I thought it was just a couple of libraries that for whatever reason were incompatible with the SL-6000.

Unfortunately, Java applets doesn't run on Firefox even in this. I guess it will be this way from what I'm seeing until the Debian package is finished? I've managed to get to my Java applet by downloading the page from my PC and running the evm -appletviewer function, but I was hoping a way could be made that wasn't such a pain in the butt. Ah, well. Still neat.

Actually, the java cramfs gives you the full jre 1.3.1 plus compiler but the java plugin is missing
not sure whether the debian version of jre includes the java plugin. I will have to check and if it does, then there is a possibility to use it.

If nothing else, it looks like Debian versions of Konqueror and Opera don't need the java plugin. I was thinking that would be worth a look if no plugin was there.

well, just to set your expectations right so you won't get disappointed, openoffice is quite slow to load, similar to firefox and thunderbird performance which is why I included sylpheed, dillo, abiword and gnumeric in my package as an alternative to mozilla and openoffice.
i initially was thrilled to be able to run mozilla and openoffice, but then the load time put me off a bit and i resorted to the alternatives which run much faster, although with less features. so what I do now is to use the alternatives if i need to do something quickly and use openoffice and mozilla if i need the fullblown features. i do get all my documents in staroffice format so i have to use openoffice to open them, but most of the time i just convert the document to doc format and use abiword to modify them.

ok, I updated some of the cramfs  images and created some new ones ...

updated xqt-gtk-jumbo.cramfs to add compatability for older models (should work for 6000 and 5500 as well now) and you can switch between blackbox and evilwm window managers by editing /etc/X11/defaultvm. fluxbox will be added soon.

no changes to xqt-apps.cramfs and xqt-mozilla.cramfs

updated java.cramfs to add a few extra jdk tools.

added xqt-openoffice.cramfs which allows you to run openoffice from xqt without having to install pocketworkstation. it uses my custom minideb embedded chroot environment.

don't forget to use the latest install script.

details can be found at  http://www.users.on.net/~hluc/myZaurus/jumbo/xqtjumbo.html

i have a question related to these images
how can i update them if there is a new version?
just replace a newer version of the cramf image and then run the install scrpit again?

to upgrade the images, all you need is replace the cramfs file (after you have unmounted it) and then mount it again and run the <something>-setup script that is contained on the cramfs.

you will also notice that when you launch the uninstaller gui, you will see the name of the cramfs file listed there. if you uninstall using the gui, then it will remove all the links and the files that got copied to your flash during install.

Hi.  I'm new to Zaurus.  I went through the debian install procedure for a C1000 as per this page:

https://www.oesf.org/forums/lofiversion/ind...php?t14056.html

I didn't get any errors.

I can launch X, but all I get is a grey background with the mouse cursor.  Even if I specify, say "xlauncher open office", I get a grey background, but the mouse cursor is now an arrow rather than an "X".

I get no fancy background or menu or task bar

This is very frustrating.  What am I doing wrong?

Thanks for responding so quickly.

Unfortunately this is going to reveal more of my ignorance, but what is sudo and how do you install it?

I installed the new CRAMFS images. From the old images, unfortunately the biggest problem I got is that somehow the X/Qt icon is not appearing in the menu window of my Sharp Zaurus SL-6000L. This kind of makes it useless as the screen will only occasionally show up as the foreground window, and even then once you tap out, you've lost the window forever. Any ideas on getting the icon back?

Ok.  I figured out what sudo is, installed it and set: zaurus ALL=(ALL) NOPASSWD: ALL

I then typed: sudo xlauncher debian.

I get a grey screen with an "X" mouse cursor which then changes to a blue screen with an arrow for the mouse cursor.  A console (I think xtern) then launches.  That's all I get.

Is is possible that the taskbar for debian is out of view?
