I've just tried installing 'sally' 5.3 on my c3100. The good news is that, yes, the Module dependencies error is gone but upgrading to the full 5.3 hdimage still doesn't work

On my first boot after installing sally and then the hdimage, I said yes to copying /home and /etc to NAND. It complained about hda2 (can't remember the exact error) then it successfully got as far as showing the splash screen for a sec before returning me to the console with an error I wish I'd wrote down. It was something like

Error in line 3 of busybox.conf, user not found

and I was then presented with a console login prompt so I tried logging in as root but then it asked for a password. Blank (just pushing enter) and password didn't work (didn't try root or 123ABC etc actually but where do you draw the line on these things?) so I just ended up rebooting.

Subsequent boots haven't done that though, now it just gets as far as

INIT: version 2.86 booting
INIT: No inittab file found

Enter runlevel:

So I've tried typing '3' and '5' but then it just says

INIT: Entering runlevel: 3(/5)
INIT: no more processes left in this runlevel

So before I try installing 5.3 full using the spitz installer do you want any info off me Meayne?

I just flashed yesterday's pdaxii13-akita-5.3 version.
I'll flash this newest release/version (feb-09-2007) later today. and copy this latest rc.rofilesys
I'll report any bootup errors here, or any other "unusual" things that may pop up.

These are my observations of the latest akita5.3 release (downloaded late feb-09-2007)

I installed this on a C3200
I selected "Install new ROM", when done I rebooted, leaving my CF & SD card inserted.
The installer then asked if I wanted to format hdc2 as swap, I said [NO]
The installer then asked if I wanted to format hdc3 as FAT, I said [NO]
My partitions are already partitioned and formatted, so I didn't see any point in doing this again.

These are the bootup messages before I copied the newest rc.rofilesys
The bootup messages were also the same after I copied the newest rc.rofilesys

I'll just make a note of recent changes and any errors.
I showed Module dependencies because this has been an issue in past akita versions
I showed the Bluetooth line because an error follows it immediately
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Welcome to pdaxii13 on Sharp Zaurus

...mounting first partition as /mnt/ide
...mounting second partition as swap
...mounting third partition as /data

Module dependencies [OK]

Starting Bluetooth [OK]
Can't open RFCOMM control socket: Address family not supported by protocol
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Also when rebooting (as unit is shutting down) this line gives this error:
Can't open RFCOMM control socket: Address family not supported by protocol [FAILED]

I've seen a few mentions of composting is Kdrive as a compile time option.  Is there any way to get that included in the next release, or an IPK?

The 5.3 upgrade comes at a good time for me.  I wanted to see what "ipkg upgrade" would do for me...... Seems like it was going great until it hosed my SD card driver.  I guess I should have done it with out the gui loaded .  Here I go again flashing.  It always makes for a fun Friday.

no, that is your serial bluetooth interface. strangely, it sometimes complains with this error, but sometimes it does not. if you don't have a bluetooth device, ie cf or usb, then just remove the links to blueooth start and stop scripts under /etc/rc.d/init.d/rc5.d and /etc/rc.d/init.d/rc6.d

this error exists in beta3 also and has always been on in pdaXii13 Spitz

The error that I got before when trying to boot a sally 5.3 install upgraded to full was

Parse error in /etc/busybox.conf, line 3: user

Then I got the login prompt that wouldn't

With this broke sally full upgrade still in place (see my last post), I did a DB boot and copied the updated rc.rofilesys into /etc/rc.d/ on my MD and then rebooted but it made absolutely no difference far as I could tell but then I suppose all that fixes is the hda2 error.

I'm going to install 5.3 full using the pdaXrom / alice method now

bug fixed for beta3 in pdaXii13 base:

added keybdev hotplug script for remapping usb keyboard
...
added spitz.xmodmap which is my   customised working keyboard map
added usb.xmodmap for usb keyboard
...
added usbkeyboard control script
added kbselect   usb keyboard selector GUI
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=150890\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
It looks like there's now an effective way to switch out keymappings.  It appears that I need to use the kbselect app to choose a keymapping to make this work.  However, when I select a USB keyboard, it asks me to hit a couple keys, presumably to confirm that a suitable keyboard is attached before it remaps everything to a potentially unusable state.

What the heck is the XF86Start key (keycode 122)?  I tried xev and I couldn't find a key on my USB keyboard that produces a 122 keycode.
Device: SL-C3200 running pdaXii13v2 build 5.5.0

I've just tried installing pdaXii13 sally 5.3.1 full w/ 5.3b hdimage on my c3100. I get lots of errors when it boots up, it gets as far as the pdaXii13 splash screen before dumping me on the console with a few

Using fallback suid method

errors and presenting me with a login prompt. I tried both 'root' and 'zaurus' with no luck.

So why am I still unable to install ii13 sally full when others claim to have installed it without problem I wonder? When I install I say yes to the formatting/ copying of everything except for hda3, my vfat partition as I don't want to and shouldn't need to format that. I am of course trying to install pdaXA full over a spitz/full pdaXii13 5.3b install- maybe it only works when you install over the top of b3?

On subsequent boots it says

INIT: No inittab file found
Enter runlevel:

So, are there any c3100 users who previously installed pdaXii13 using my/ Archimarks install method for the spitz version who have successfully managed to install sally full over it?
