Thanks for your great stuffs Meanie.
I just flashed pdaXii13 Akita (Sally) 5.3 on my C1000.  The installation ran smoothly.
The first thing I checked is xpdf.  It has problem locating the fonts though.  I confirm that by starting it from the terminal and it spits out "couldn't find fonts" errors.
Wonder if I have done something wrong on my side.

Yesterday I tried installing 5.3.1 again and not choosing the install HDimage after installing the main rom but exactly the same happened to me as in my last bug report. I've not tried saying No to copying /home and /etc but even then there is a massive stack of errors before it gets that far anyway about drives not be mounted, files missing, modules failing etc etc. If I could log in then maybe I could get a dump of them.

So I got to thinking that maybe it was something to do with me having the spitz version installed previously so I installed pdaX b3, which installed fine, and installed 5.3.1 over that and just got the same problems again. I was getting worried then so I tried installing Hentges but that has installed fine so its not like my disk has died.

Maybe I should try downloading it again? I always use the same card and process for flashing and its unusual for something to not copy properly.

Hi,

two questions regarding install of Pdaxii13 on the C1000:

Is there some way of using an SD Card inserted into the C1000 instead of the HD on C3xxx?
This means basically to put the hdimage on the SD and mount it and so get witz some trick the same results as with HD?

If this does not work... if I install the base version on NAND and use ipk-batch-install.sh... will it install the additional packages on NAND or on SD?

changes since 5.3.1:
    * updated xpdf
    * updated timezones data for new daylight savings rules
    * enhanced datentime.py with a Timezones tab to select predefined timezones
    * enhanced kbselect so it can unlock/fix the keys when they lock up
    * added feature to disable sticky keys
    * updated rc script to run rc.local if it exists
    * replaced mkfs.vfat to support formatting of larger FAT32 partition
    * updated bluepin with default 1234 PIN
    * added sdcontrol to mount 2nd partition if exists and integrated with cards applet
    * updated zbackup to allow alternate location for backup file and support for akita models
    * updated rotation script so closing the display will blank it and enhanced it so that rotation is not slowing down resume

Quick question for meanie. Just installed pdaxii13-akita5.3.2 (new flash)
Do I have 2 /home directories?
When in Rox and I click on the default "Home" folder on the desktop, it takes me to the directory on the right of the screenshot ~(All)
When in the root directory and I click on the /home directory, I get the folder on the left of the screenshot /home (All)
I think I might have removed the one on the right, (when I was changing it's icon) the last time I installed pdaxii13 plus Rox. That's why I'm asking this question now.
What is the ~ directory for, and what is it's purpose? Should I rename it "My Zaurus", so I can have my /home folder with my house icon? I cannot have 2 "Home" folders on the desktop, can I ?

Nevermind, I figured out that ~ is /home/root

I installed pdaxii13 5.3.2 Nand version on my c1000, but when I try to install rox I get an error, something about being unable to write to /usr/lib. Also, when I check my / directory, I have zero space, is this correct?

During install I nand flash using 121 which I assume is correct, but once the install is complete and I jump into X, when I check my space under / is 0.


Am I missing something?

Ok, just want to make sure that I'm installing pdaxii13 5.3.2 correctly.
I resized my Nand to 121, everything installs fine. When X windows starts, I open a terminal and type the following df -h:

is this correct when install on C1000? On my /dev/root is 100% used, where do I install applications like Rox?

Then I installed pdaxii13-akita
(maybe pdaxrom's flash reformatter works better, I don't know)

Hope someone can PLEASE clarify a few things about 'Upgrading' pdaXii13, before I screw things up....  

I'm using pdaXii13 v5.2 Spitz full install (Alice) now on my 3200. Works great....

So wondering what is best approach to do now to get upgraded to latest version v.5.3.2??

Should I

A) Upgrade using 'Alice', reflashing 'hdimage-full.tgz'

or

 Switch over to 'Sally' now as it is meant for 3200, right?


If it's advantageous to go with 'Option B', do I need to wipe out the install I have now or can I still do an 'Upgrade' install approach??

Thanks, Jon_J, I saw that...but besides 'how to upgrade', what I'm also really trying to get at is whether or not I should stay on the 'Alice' path or are there some advantages to switching over to the 'Sally' path???

I'm going to reply, but I'm not an expert on pdaxrom.
You need to state what model of Zaurus you have.  
I have a C3200 so the below information is for C3100 or C3200
First, you'll need to install pdaxrom beta3 (for newer clamshells)
Read how to flash pdaxrom here

While installing beta3, you are given the option to partition your NAND
Most people partition their NAND to 121MB
Now I'm going to point something out.
You'll also need to repartition your microdrive, (if you have one), later in pdaxii13 install.
Doing these 2 things (partitioning the NAND and the microdrive) makes it difficult to return back to Sharp/Cacko.
That being said, once you flash to pdaxrom beta3, you can update or flash to pdaxii13.
You'll need to go to meanie's page and read up on pdaxii13

I opted for the "Sally" path/version because I wanted everything basic to run from NAND.
I tried the "Alice" version first, back in January, and thought it was slow.
"Sally" on NAND seems a lot faster, much like Cacko, so I'm sticking with it.
I haven't installed any large apps yet, these will go on the microdrive.
Right now, I only have basic utilities installed.
I just reflashed last night to akita5.3.2 (Sally)
