Thanks as always for your help, Meanie!

Will try reinstalling the debian-startscripts....

*** If I do try installing your jumbo package can I install it to my internal drive or only to external storage card like SD or CF ???

Thanks,

Mark

The jumbo package only installs X/Qt. The debian package is next if I have time.
For your problem, you should only need to reinstall the debian-startscripts. Quantumsteps overwrote your .xinitrc file.

Hi Meanie,

Well, like asola, I am ready to try your jumbo package as something is not working now with my X/Qt/Debian setup....

I tried out QuantumSTEP on my Z and it works but I think it must have changed something. Now, X/Qt/Debian is not working when I try to start it up...

So either I try your jumbo package or will need to do manual install again....

However, one question for you please....

I installed X/Qt/Debian to my microdrive on my C3000 instead of using a external storage card. Can I do this with your jumbo package??

Thanks!

Mark

The jumbo package install to internal drive without any problems at all. Not sure whether it installs to sd/cf, never tried it myself.

so far it has been tested successfully on c3000 and c860. still having problems on c1000 sad.gif

Hi Meanie,

Well....things have not gone as well as I'd hoped regarding getting X/Qt/Debian reinstalled using your jumbo package....

Have noticed a few strange things...wonder what you think is going on...here's what I did:

1) Deinstalled my previous installation

2) Installed your jumbo package, like others got error message that 'install depended upon some other items...'.

3) Noticed that I have 'Pocket Workstation(Debian)' icon and 'StartX' icon but no 'X Server' icon like in previous manual installation.

Is this supposed to be that way??

4) Followed your website Debian install instructions and installed your 'Debian startup scripts'. However, when I click PocketWorkstation icon, it only gets as far as the X 'rxvt window opening....no Debian/iceWM opens up.

I tried typing in that window:
CODE
$xlauncher debian
$
qtApInit
Display size = 480x640
could not open translation file /home/QtPalmtop//i18n/ja_JP.eucJP/libsl.qmid
qtRandRRotate(270)
_XSERVTransSocketINETCreateListener: ...SocketCreateListener() failed
_XSERVTransMakeALLCOTSServerListener: server already running

Fatal Server Error:
Cannot establish any listening sockets - Make sure an X server isn't already running
failed to set locale, reverting to "C"
rxvt: Setting locale failed.
BScreen::BScreen: an error occured while querying the X server.
another window manager is already running on display :0.0.
Blackbox::Blackbox: no manageable screens found, aborting

waiting for X server to shut down

Wondering if I need to install XServer manually??

Also, do I need to install Blackbox manually??

What do you suggest??

Thanks for your help!

Mark

I still havent figured about which library is complaining about the dependencies but the library complaining is definately not needed so I just need to remove it from the package once I find which the offending library is.

I moved the X Server icon to the Settings Tab smile.gif

The jumbo package includes the debian startup scripts so installing that package just overwrote it with the same files I hope smile.gif

Make sure you were using the 0.3 version of the debian startup scripts (which is the same as the one in the jumbo package) It looks like you may have installed an older version (0.2) of the debian startup scripts. If that is the case, simply uninstall the debian scripts and put the newer 0.3 debian-startup scripts in.

The other errors you got were because you tried to run X from within X. xlauncher should only be run from outside the X environment. I should add a check to it and make sure it only runs when its not in X.

Thanks for your reply, Meanie!

Yes, I see the X Server icon now in the Settings Tab smile.gif

I checked and I did use the '0.3' version of the debian startup scripts... blink.gif

I had a feeling that I wasn't supposed to run X from within X.... rolleyes.gif

Hmmm....so what do you suggest now???

Should I try going through all your steps in your Debian instructions again??

If so, what should I do if anything, before doing that??

Or????

Also, remembered one more strange thing....now I can't turn off my C3000 with the On/Off button!!

Don't know if this has to do with installing jumbo package or de-installing previous X/Qt/Debian install or QuantumSTEP or ???..... In fact, after I click the On/Off button, Z freezes up now....then have to reset Z and reboot.... huh.gif

Thanks for any help.

Mark

The on/off problem may be due to the sudo package which kills the Advanced Power Management on the Zaurus. See the thread about it, it is recent.

Hi Meanie,

Thanks for helping us with this jumbo package as well as the informative site. I am rather new to Linux, and have been having some problems with the installation of X/QT on my C3K. Any chance of getting a hold of the Jumbo Package to see if that might work? Thanks in advance for your help.

I was testing the C1k jumbo install, and was able to get around the 'troubles'. You need ~30M flash free in order to install. Pango was also failing a dependency check (libexpat.so.0), but that wasn't critical to getting the X environment up. I believe meanie was going to fix that anyway.

The firefox bundle installed fine, but didn't start for me (waited over 7 min. for it to start before giving up).
