Why is the 6k more expensive than the 5500? Granted it's newer, w/ wifi and so forth, but it's going for like $500 dollars on ebay!

You're kidding right? It has 480x640 semi-transmissive CGS color LCD instead of 240x320 reflective TFT 65,536 color LCD. It has usb otg whereas the 5500 has none. It has a speaker whereas the 5500 has none. It has a 400MHz Intel PXA255 Processor instead of a 206Mhz Intel SA-1110 Processor. It has wireless built in where's a 5500 has none. It has a 1500 mAh battery instead of a 950 mAh one on the 5500. Need I go on? This wouldn't be a question that's simply so you don't have to look these things up, would it? |

ok, ok, I get the picture. But why the dificulty finding one? I mean, was there less of these units manufactured than the 5500, or is it just that the 6000 is still a viable option for a PDA, and people are holding onto theirs?

The 5500 was consumer retail device. The 6000 was an enterprise device mainly aimed at coporations. Amazon was the only place to sharp approved place to sell it retail.

if you can get a new 6000 for $500, i think i'd do it. it's just about the total package; only thing i would have done would be to make it a clamshell so you could have a convenient keyboard and better protection for the screen. it is a commercial type apparatus in size and ruggedness, and i don't think that turns on the trendies who comprise the mass market, hence sharp probably didn't see a big profit potential. can't beat it as a "personal mobile tool", though.

wouldn't sell mine for 500 today. would take more to replace it w/ at
least a 3000 and a wifi card. ...and then I'd have more storage-than I currently own-and a not nearly as good screen (take 'em both on a picnic on a sunny day before you flame me, ok?) |

It is not full USB host, as the electrical specifications are a little different and the physical specifications are *really* different. (Using the mini-connectors - mini-a for host, and mini-b for client.) It all works out about the same in the end, once you have an adapter. |
