So I got a 3100 and have it working as a PIM, replacing my Palm. smile.gif.
- When I start up, I'm always asked to set the System Time. How do I stop this screen from popping up everytime?
- Has anyone got ethernet over usb working with Gentoo? "lsmod" shows usbnet and "lsusb" shows the Zaurus, but then I don't know how to set-up either /etc/conf.d/net, or the Zaurus. How do I set-up my laptop which is behind a two NIC firewall box? There is no setting under networking for USB networking, only cards or ppp, etc. on the Zaurus. (I know I can use a WiFi card, but then I also have to buy a router... For this and other reasons I want to use the USB cable.)
- I finally got xqt-debian-install.sh to run without errors (hint: "mkdir hdd3/debroot" before running the script is required.), but then I get "startx: not found" after running "xlauncher debian". I try to run "ipkg install xqt-gtk-jumbopack_0.4.3-0.6_arm.ipk", but get EOF errors. Will installing this file properly get rid of that error, ie. do I even need this file if I have installed zaurus-debian-jumbo-v18-b01.tar.gz already? Can I get openoffice to run without going through Debian? (I have to have OpenOffice because I like to see my writing formatted, and all my writing requires extensive footnoting and indexing. AbiWord or Hancomm just won't work.)
- How do I get the "\" key to work (Fn F")?
- Why would I want to install the "special kernel" and how is that done?
- Is there a key mapping issue that doesn't let me change command modes when using visudo?
- I hope someone can help me with these issues, or point me in the right direction... Thanks.

well, let me try to answer some of your questions.
That's a feature of Qtopia or Sharp ROM. Just hit the OK button.
You will need to install the USB to Ethernet drivers found on the first CD that came with your Zaurus. Should be a directory called driver somewhere. Once the drivers are installed your machine should detect the usb networking adaptor and you can then configure a private network.
You will need to install xqt-gtk-jumbopack_0.4.3-0.7_arm.ipk before installing debian. Debian will not run without it. EOF errors happen if you did not download the complete file.Try downloading it again. You could run openoffice without debian in theory and I was working on getting it to work, but for the time being, you will need debian to run openoffice.

The \ key works. The japanese character for \ is the yen character. Just imagine the \ character whenever you see the yen character. you will get used to it smile.gif or load your text document in qedit, zedit or yedit, and they will show the \ sign correctly.
The special kernel fixes a few issues with the default sharp provided kernel. Once of the more noticable thing it fixes is the suspend/resume functionality and a more accurate battery indicator. It also enables some performance related features that are disabled by default so it will made your Zaurus a bit faster especially when you watch videos on your Z. There are a lot more features that the special kernel provides.
visudo uses the same command sequences as plain vi, so you should read up on vi commands. The esc key on the Zaurus is the cancel key.

Have a look at my website. It might help you get started. http://www.users.on.net/~hluc/myZaurus

By 'machine' are you assuming I'm running Windows? I want to connect from my laptop running Gentoo Linux...

Success! Firefox download manager is bad, wget is your friend!

How do I install it? Just replace existing files with the same names and restart?

Thanks. Now I got it working.
