Hi,
I'm thinking about purchasing one of SL-C1000/3000/3100 palmtops but I have one question before I do it. One of the (very) main reasons for me to use Linux palmtop is run mathematical software on it (so far I use Agenda VR3, but it can run at best Pari/GP). Since Zurus are not really cheap (at least for someone like me living and working in Poland), hence, I would buy a Zaurus if I'm sure it can run the software I need. So this is the question: does anyone know if the following two apps will (compile and) run on any of these models: - Axiom: http://www.axiom-developer.org - Maxima: http://maxima.sourceforge.net This isn't a trivial questions since both these programs have a bit complicated build-procedure (their are build around GCL). If anyone reading this forum has enough time and will to try to compile any of these apps and report the result I would greatly appreciate - moreover it would be beneficial for the rest if he/she made the compiled version available :-) Thanks a lot in advance, Przemek |

Maxima runs and so does Pari/GP. I have both on my Zaurus C860. There are already precompiled binaries for both. There was a thread on this forum on Maxima, that you can find by searching. Don't know about Axiom, never used it.

you should post this in the xqt forum. also look into buying the c3100 so you can use debian and xqt environment.
http://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showforum=112 i would try it myself but i am in the middle of installing xqt on sd and still need more ipk files to install before i finish. my problem is running out of memory but i can make room which i am not intending to do yet. I do recommend the c3100. also, debian needs ext2 but i am running fat. just post over there and someone will get back at you. then, ill dab into axim but dont know if i can do it soon. |

Great. Thank you all for the info. I'll cross-post to the other forum as Cresho suggested.
BTW, better GUI for Maxima is wxMaxima: http://wxmaxima.sourceforge.net/ However it would require to port wxWidgets (http://www.wxwindows.org/) onto Z. Przemek |
