In case this may be of interest to anyone in the U.K.
I have just bought a 42" (1m) USB Mini-A to USB Mini-B from http://www.lindy.com in England for £6.50 including VAT and postage. I've tried it with an external drive, a 2.5" laptop drive in an IcyBox case (needs a seperate power supply), and it works perfectly.
