QUOTE QUOTE Yes, I must have been not clear enough on my instructions, sorry. I've updated them. 64-0 cannot work on normal ROM, since there is no space for /home. You have to flash Cacko/Crow ROMs to use 64-0 config. I run a Crow like ROM and the 64-0 still doesn't work, maybe I didn't make that clear in my previous reply. No worries as I've gone back to my own kernel, if I can find the details of the patches I might roll them into mine and see what happens. Do you have a 5500 or 5000D device? |

QUOTE QUOTE I have attempted to update using the above kernel but when I reset all I get is the boot logo and it sits there. I am assuming that when you state "using the usual updat procedure" you are referring to the RESET and C+D option. Please, make all the usual "CF card flashing" checks, such as your card is FAT16, zImage is the only file on the root of CF, it's named exactly zImage, etc. What boot logo do you see? If ts's Sharp logo, kernel did not flash... Try to flash zaurus with Ospack from Sharp and see if it works. A further update. When I installed the correct kernel for my Sharp 3.1 default 32-30 configuration everything worked fine. After renaming the backup it also restored fine. Subsequent to this I decided to bite the bullet and install your latest 64-0 ROM and the new kernel and again everything works very well now. It is nice to have the extra memory for applications and /home on my Lexar 256 MB SD card. Thanks for all your hard work on this. QUOTE Well, now we know what's wrong!!! It can't be used on the stock sharp rom.
Gotta say though Maslovsky, in your initial instructions it specifically states that the new kernel would work on the sharp 3.13 rom. Guess we are all lucky that we haven't turned our Z's into fancy new paperweights. Give Maslovsky a break. He deserves no criticism but just our thanks. I dread to think of the hours that he must spend on improving the Zaurus software and all of us become the beneficiaries. Nigel Bamber |

Thanks Maslovsky.
I'm running the alpha 3 TKCrom with home on SD, courtesy of the new script. Your kernel, the 32 30 one!, appears to work fine. I ended up rebooting from the gui an extra time to get all my apps to work as normal from home on SD but that was the only problem. Thanks also for the usb-storage solution! Excellent work! PS with people like you and Zautrix we don't need Sharp much, do we? |

highfell you are totally right!... Since the launch of the Z, all we had and have the great luck that good friends around here has made great efforts to improve our loved Z's, I cant remenber all the names, but, as the time passes, I see how some friends made something really great, then they "disappears", but new "good will & mind" programers appears with new efforts for the benefit of all of us... is for sure that are a lot of this friends that like as maslovsky, take its time only to make better things for all us, so, Thank you really much to all of you!
![]() By other side, heee Tux... if the question dont bother too much.... I wouldlike to ask so: A)You are using the alpha 3 of the TKCrom2.0 and it worked fine with backup/restore prog? B)The new script for home on SD that you used, is the standard script that appears in the ZUG downloads zone or is a modified version in some way... (in case that is a modified version, could you put a copy of it?...) thank you very much for the patience aand best regards! ![]() |

QUOTE A)You are using the alpha 3 of the TKCrom2.0 and it worked fine with backup/restore prog? I also had problems with this. For some reasom Alpha 3, does not allow you to backup your Zaurus in any circumstances. I switched back to Version 1 of the TKR. To be honest I couldn't tell you of any noticeable difference between the two versions except that the backup and restore functions works on version 1. Nigel Bamber |

Hi! First of all, Tux, Thanx very much for take the time to answer!
![]() About the topics, I use the TKC rom 1.0 with the new cacko kernel without trouble, in fact Im also install the memory monitor plugin that made a swap disk and enable/disable it , and original backup/restore utility and everything works totally fine.... well, the only thing that I would like to add is the use of the home-on-sd script that is in ZUG downloads, but in the info of this script said that is suited for the TKCrom2-alpha3 rom file, so in fact, the info exactly said that the scrist is: "This is to be used in conjunction with the TKCrom Version 2-alpha3 release. You can also modify the standard sharp rom, or tkc-v1 rom to work with this script, by modifying the /root/etc/rc.d/rc.sysinit script to match the one that is included with the version-2-alpha3 tkcrom.".... So,I would like to ask, if somebody already made the changes that refers in the above paragraph, and tested it with the TKCrom1.0, or if someone could know what is the changes that are needed to the script, so in order that could be totally usefull with TKCrom1.0.... ![]() thanx & best regards & a nice day to all! ![]() |

QUOTE How can I make sure my SD card (where /home resides) is mounting async? If you're using Crow like ROM, then first check by typing mount. If you see a "sync" option, then your card is mounted sync. Then do the following: su echo MOUNT_OPTIONS="async,noatime">/home/root/.rom_options reboot |

Hey Maslovsky, I'm having issues with the async writing to the SD card. What happens is that after a length of time, button presses become very laggy/hit-and-miss and after a while stop registering reliably. I wasnt sure what this was (never been a problem before), but I suspected the async writing - and after some tests (moved all my docs over to the flash and started accessing them there) figured out that that was the problem. The card is an old Sandisk MMC card which has never really screwed up, although it's no doubt slow.
My question: how do I change it back to sync (which should make it work properly again)? Is CODE echo MOUNT_OPTIONS="sync,noatime">/home/root/.rom_options
..good enough? Thanks, Yz |
