Yes, there is one which is c-guys SDIO Wifi. They even have Zaurus driver in their download page. (only SL-C760 and SL-C860 are listed though)
http://www.c-guys.com/Sdlink11b_index_en.htm C3000's front SD card slot is useful for memory card for easy access, but not too good for this 'somewhat-over-the-slot' type card in my opinion. |

QUOTE(wardys @ Jan 10 2005, 08:16 AM) Thanks DreamTheater , may seam a silly question I know , but I have just ordered my first Linux PDA so I'm eager to learn all it can do . Many Thanks for the reply. Hey dreamtheater, that page says the card only works for pocketpc. Theres no mention of zaurus anywhere on it. Furthermore, c750 is sd only, not sdio, so how can it use a wifi sd card? pls reply, as i'd love to get one for my c750. thx. |

[/quote] Actually, they had a beta/alpha-ish driver that supported the 860 and C3000. Try this URL instead: http://www.c-guys.net/support/download/link_e.shtml This should take you directly to the page with the C-Guys Linux driver. You should be able to download it at the bottom of the page. I downloaded the driver and installed it on my 860 with the intent of using it with an SDIO Wireless card. Unfortunately, three things got in the way. 1) The driver is buggy. To my knowledge, they haven't done much with it. 2) The driver doesn't work with Cacko, and I have no desire to EVER go back to the original Sharp ROM again. 3) I couldn't find an SDIO wireless card to experiment with that wasn't expensive. I'm adventurous enough to try running a non-C-guys card with their driver, but I'm not adventurous to blow 150 bucks on a card that I may not be able to use and may not be able to take back. That said, the driver did install, and it only had minor hiccups with the SD Card mounting software. |

Thanks! I guess I'll have to get one.
I have a c-750 though, and after I emailed them they changed this page to say the c750 isn't supported, thought the c760 is. I thought the only difference was the case color and the ram, I can't imagine they have different sd setups: http://www.c-guysusa.com/images/PDA_list.jpg I found another thread on this topic in which people say it does indeed work, but maybe not so reliably. Does anyone else have info about reliablity? Man, this site is awesome. My $350 c750 from ebay may end up running linux w/ wifi and 5gb of memory, as opposed to the condition I got it in (not charging, with some crummy PIM software). |

The C-Guys card doesn't work very well with the Cacko rom, and passably-but-not-great with the Sharp rom. (Apparently, I don't own one) The C750 hardware may not have the SDIO capability. The only other SDIO card is an AirH cellular card, and I don't know if it works on the 750 or older. It may be that all the clamshells have SDIO and no one has bothered writing any drivers for it, or it may be that none of them do and the two existing devices use some soft of MMC workaround (which would be slower. There was speculation about this on ZUC quite some time ago). My recommendation is to stick to CF Wi-Fi unless you have time and money to play with it, because it may never work. |

This has actually been covered in a previous thread. At least on the C760/860 C3000/1000, the SDIO interfaces are all there. ELECTRICALLY, the SD slot on the Clamshell zaurus is an SDIO slot. However, in terms of drivers, it isn't even an SD Memory card slot. The SD and SDIO specs are closed-source, and the C-guys would probably tell you that they can't release the guts of the driver due to patent/proprietary data concerns, so we can't tinker with it here at the OE Forum. I don't know if the 750 has all the correct electrical connections, but I know for a fact that the 860 and newer DO. There have been pictures posted, in fact. However, as you point out, the C-guys driver is buggy as all get out, and I wasn't really willing to risk spending a hundred+ on a card and another fifty on an access point to find out that it wasn't reliable. |

jomo summarized the situation very good. I'm pretty sure that electrically also the C750 is capable - perhaps even the C700. One thing to correct though - SD and SDIO specs are open nowadays - _however_ this doesn't mean individual card specs and since kernel developers are rare anyway, it's not very likely that we see a sdio driver anyway soon.

There is a layer of encryption that is totally proprietary for SD devices. It's analogus too TCP/IP an open standard, but a unique and proprietary encrypted protocol is implemented on top of that. It is very difficult to reverse engineer such things and no two cards will use the same encrypted communication. Take a look at this model: http://www.sdcard.com/usa/TextPage.asp?Page=4 See that copy protection module. That's the biggest problem. Hope this helps. |

Thanks for pointers. I might be wrong, but I doubt that encryption support would be that important for Zaurus. AFAIK, the Sharp's driver doesn't implement it too.
