People have discussed here many times building a device to replace the Zaurus.
Here is something which could be the core of it. We just need a few extra components and some nice boxes... http://www.compulab.co.il/x270em/html/x270-em-datasheet.htm

Maybe, finally, this really IS the thingy to replace the Zaurus:
Medion are launching a UMPC with keyboard which will be available in the UK for £800 - not too much more than the Zaurus SL-C860 cost way back when - but only $1000 in the us and €1000 in Europe - we Brits get ripped off again. VIA C7-M 770ULV 1Ghz processor with 400Mhz bus, 6.5" display 800 x 640, keyboard, 30Gb disk, 768Mb RAM, Wifi g, Bluetooth 2, SD/SD-IO/MMC card reader, Web cam / microphone / speaker, SD Card slot, 2 x USB Port, VGA Port, Firewire port, Vista (OK, there had to be some downside....) Weighs 740g. Available "soon" https://www.medionshop.co.uk/?areaID=43EB8C...10000000A00005C See also http://lifestyle.hexus.net/content/item.php?item=8479

This is getting pretty close to what I want as a Z replacment. A little big, perhaps.
Anyway, Haier is huge brand name in China, so this machine should be a pretty solid unit. Its got an intel chipset so shouldn't be to hard to get going driver-wise. http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2007/04/19/haier_shows_x6_umpc/

I'm interested in trying Cacko, but I don't see anywhere obvious answers to the following questions:
(1) Which of the original Sharp Apps are included with Cacko? All of them? Or were some left out to save space? (2) I have plenty of stuff on my sharp ROM now like address book files, appointwents, and whatnot. Assuming I do NOT have a PC to sync with to get the data out and then back in after the change of ROM, what is the best way to preserve such info if I switch to Cacko? If anyone can give me answers, or tell me where to RTFM, thanks. |
