Gemini PDA - Hardware / MediaTek USB-UART on Gemini-PDA

Hi,

I managed to get UART over USB working, which is a nice, non-destructive way of getting a serial console on the Gemini-PDA.
I documented all the steps, and wrote a blog post here. I hope this helps others in getting this working.

Ubuntu / Zubuntu 2.0 Released

Zubuntu v2.0 is available and can be downloaded here. The image is intended for spitz devices (SL-C3000, SL-C3100 and SL-C3200) but after a quick check most seems to work on the Akita (SL-C1000) as well.

Things I need to check on the Akita are suspend/resume (white screen, doesn't suspend) and the irda driver bails out with an error.

Ubuntu / Running Zubuntu From Internal Memory

Hi,

I've posted how-to instructions on my blog. Following these instructions makes it possible to run Zubuntu from internal flash memory. This should work for all currently supported models.

Most part of Zubuntu is squashed into the small amount of internal memory, except for the /usr and /var directories. Unfortunately these have to be located on a different place, being a CF, SD, or MD.

Ubuntu / Zubuntu 1.0 Rc1

I've just uploaded Zubuntu 1.0 Release Candidate 1. This release supports following Zaurus models:

• SL-C700
• SL-C750
• SL-C760
• SL-C860
• SL-C1000
• SL-C3000
• SL-C3100
• SL-C3200

Instructions on how to install the release can be found on my blog later today. Please be so kind to give your feedback, report problems, share fixes, enhancements etc.

Ubuntu / Zubuntu 1.0...

Hi,

Just want to plug my Zubuntu project a bit here as well  

I'm heading for a 1.0 release. Quite some progress has been made.The LXDE desktop is speedy and simple, it fits the Zaurus very well. Compared to Gnome or even XFCE it is blazing fast, I played around with the LXLauncher as well. I leave it in, but it won't be enabled on default. Maybe it will by the time I get used to it. Zubuntu currently lacks a decent set of PIM applications. A bit odd maybe, because for me that's the most important set of applications when using the Zaurus on a daily basis

Ubuntu / The Birth Of Zubuntu

New update of Ubuntu (Zubuntu as it's called from now on) can be found here.
For now it's still the minimal version, I'm working on a more complete version with more software pre-installed (and more bugs fixed).
If some of you would like to mirror the image, be my guest.

Ubuntu / Ubuntu Frisky Firedrake Available...

Hi,

I've asked for a dedicated Ubuntu subforum, but since Ubuntu is based on Debian I posted this here for the time being.

I've finally uploaded a version 0.1 of Ubuntu Frisky Firedrake for all of you to try. Detailed instructions can be found here. Thanks to speculatrix for hosting the files.

It's a bit different than all the other images I guess. Since this is just a version 0.1, I've based the installation instructions on the Qemu (ARM) emulator. There's much left to be fixed and configured, so this is much easier done in Qemu on a fast machine instead of doing it on the much slower Zaurus.

Please help me to get to a version 1.0 as soon as possible, by giving it a try, and sharing your thoughts, suggestions and hopefully your patches/fixes/scripts etc. Also, let me know if there are any errors in the instructions.

There's not much activity lately here, looking at the responses to my Fedora 8 post.
So let's give it another try then, maybe Ubuntu is more interesting than Fedora. See this post in my blog.

It's just a minimal command-line system, but it works.

Anyone willing to donate some hosting space can PM me or drop me a line using the contact form on my blog.

General Discussion / Fedora 8 Image For Sl-c3x00 Available, But...

Hi all,

I recently succeeded in creating a working fedora 8 image for my SL-C3100 (see this item in my blog).
It's still fresh, so it's currently just a minimal root system, with no x-server installed, but apart from that, it's working great so far. I'm still trying to convert the missing x-server related ipk's, which are zaurus specific, into rpm's to make installation easier.

But, for the time being, I think some of you may want to try it out yourself. The problem is that my root file image is currently about 220Mb in size, and I don't have that much space left to host it. So, if any of you have some space left and would be willing to donate this, that would be great.

Android / Android Sl-c3x00 Image Updated

I've uploaded a new version of the Android image for the Zaurus SL-C3x00 models. I've added additional packages, and the key settings as well as the RotateView applet from Android Zaurus are installed on default. More info can be found  here.
