Gemini PDA - Hardware / MediaTek USB-UART on Gemini-PDA
« on: June 27, 2018, 05:51:41 am »
Hi,

I managed to get UART over USB working, which is a nice, non-destructive way of getting a serial console on the Gemini-PDA.
I documented all the steps, and wrote a blog post here. I hope this helps others in getting this working.

Cheers,
Omegamoon

Gemini PDA - Android / Android update - Beware!
« on: June 04, 2018, 09:20:05 am »
I had the same issue. Installed the OTA update on a pristine Android, and it gave me the endless boot animation. Had to reflash Android, so starting from scratch now, which is a drag

Will anyone has battery problems with Zubuntu?¿?
My zaurus with zubuntu (RC1 and RC2) literally eats the battery ...
even suspended!
Please help!
is my only problem with Zubuntu!!!
I think I mentioned it before, but the Zaurus kernels have a problem charging the battery when suspended. This means you need to recharge either by keeping the device on or shutting it off completely using shutdown -h now. I know this isn't pretty, but although the problem may seem small, it's not easy to fix!

Apparently prism2_usb is completely broken in .31, and may not be fixed soon.  The Tosa's internal wifi does use prism2_usb, correct?

I noticed that no modules are getting loaded either.  Not sure why.
Try executing depmod -a and see if this works for loading modules

If "The Zaurus Forum" isn't already in use somewhere I totally agree that this is a much better name for the forum

Yeah found that out   Iys all good, holding with the present config til the menu thing is resolved.
It may be worse then "just" the menu-package. The "illegal instruction" after doing a apt-get upgrade seems to be related to a bug in the latest version of libstdc++6. This breaks apt completely at the moment!

In that case, should I hold back from flashing? I dont want to trash an otherwise working Z build if 2.0 is not yet ready.

BTW, it took me best part of 24 hours to unzip the root filesystem to SD!

It's ready, use it, just hold your horses and wait to upgrade to the latest (development) packages! When upgrading you're on your own for now.

By the way, if it took so extremely long to unzip the root filesystem you really need to think about buying a new SD card. I use a Sandisk Extreme III card which may be more expensive than the average card, but it's speedy, and you'll need every extra bit of speed. Apart from that, setting up a swap partition really helps speeding things up when browsing the Net for instance!

So, again, start using it, and have fun!

Cheers,
cortez

Could you post the kernel zimage and updater.sh for 2.6.31-rc8-omegamoon-spitz?
zImage is in the root-additions archive (/boot directory). I don't know why you need an updater.sh (there are a few on my site). Don't even try to flash the 2.6.31-rc8 kernel, because it's way too large. Always use the bootmanager to start this kernel!

Thank you Cortez!

Installed but no go for my socket wifi.

It says 'failed to initialize firmware'.

I've tried to use spectrum_cs fw from Debian (which works with the previous Zubuntu 1.0) but still no luck.

Pretec works though.
Please run "dmesg|tail" (without the quotes) after the insertion of the card, and post the result here

No nano on default install -gasp-, aslactrl errors on boot too.  Playing more ...
No nano on default indeed. Had to make (quite) some choices.
Please tell me what the alsa errors are, haven't seen them!

Ubuntu / Zubuntu 2.0 Released
« on: August 29, 2009, 04:45:54 am »
Zubuntu v2.0 is available and can be downloaded here. The image is intended for spitz devices (SL-C3000, SL-C3100 and SL-C3200) but after a quick check most seems to work on the Akita (SL-C1000) as well.

Things I need to check on the Akita are suspend/resume (white screen, doesn't suspend) and the irda driver bails out with an error.
More info can be found on my blog. Please be so kind to give your feedback, report problems, share fixes, enhancements etc.

Have fun!

Cheers,
cortez

I was impressed when I tested Zubuntu earlier this year, but it was not quite ready for daily use back then. Watching with interest.
I hope you like the next Zubuntu better, in my opinion it's more polished

5x00 Hardware / Sl-5500 - Won't Power Up
« on: July 22, 2009, 09:32:57 am »
- Remove the battery.
- Press D + B while you connect the AC adapter. This will bring a command line prompt.
- When you are asked to login, enter 'root' (no quotes). You need no password.
- At the root prompt (#) type 'reboot' (again, no quotes) and hit Enter. This will reboot your Zaurus and load the OS.

I don't know if this works with the SL-5500, but it works with other (clamshell) models.

Cheers,
cortez

I'm on my way to trying it, but just a quick note on extracting the rootfs onto an SD:
A lot of
Code: [Select]
Cannot create symlink to `': Operation not permittedtype errors.

More later...
Make sure you use "sudo tar -zxpf achive.tar.gz" to make sure you have the right permissions. This is important!
