Mac Issues / Open Zaurus And Mac Os X Sync

Hello eji,

I was intererested in your comments about the KO/Pi ROM. I have an iBook G4 and a Z5600. I have been using Open Zaurus but getting mixed (buggy) results since ditching the Sharp ROM. How is the KO/PI ? Is it stable and consistant? Thx.

A couple of things here. Most of what you want can be done with the basic SHARP ROM and its associated Qt GUI. You could try Open Zaurus ROM (3.5.2) and its Opie GUI, but it is still a bit unstable and needs some understanding of linux file structure etc.

The Mac OS X sync is the issue in both of the above cases. The SL5600 was only supplied with PC sync S/W. However there is a site that has got "ZMacSync" running, but it is still in its infancy but will do simple PIM syncs. See URL: This only works with the SHARP ROM.

Hope this helps.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Media Player For Opie

I live and learn... XMMS is working but appears to play only some of my songs, and not others. All my music is on the same SD Card but some tracks are named "My Song.mp3" while others are named "._My Long Title of My Song2.mp3", or "04 My Song2.mp3" etc. It seems that this may have something to do withit(???) Kinda weird, but I'll investigate further and let you know the outcome. (I have given up on Opie MediaPlayer2 as well).

Try using the --force-depends switch, it would appear that either some packages were misnamed, or have been updated since the ipk was made. It should work though.

Thx guys for the tips. I have now got both Opie MediaPlayer2 and XMMS loaded successfully. However, XMMS does nothing (ie does not play th file) and Opie MediaPlayer tries to play the .mp3 files but with only VERY brief snatches of what could be called sound. Seems like I need some other files or add-in to make MediaPlayer work? BTW I'm on an SL5600 (poodle).

Hi Philipp & lardman,

>You need to install service-release-1-oz-opie, then try again  Reason is that libstdc++6 is in >the dev feed, which isn't in the sources file for ipkg by default. This is fixed (in addition to other >things) in the service release.

Thx for the info. I have installed service-release-1-oz-opie and retried, but now get:
ERROR: Cannot ...
libqte2 (>2.3.7)
libstdc++6 (>= 3.4.2)
libstdc++6 (>= 3.4.2)

I have now managed to install Mediaplayer2 (skins and all) and it will even try to play selected MP3 files on my SD card, but only pops and clicks are heard from the speaker. Maybe a Codec problem?

I have made great progress from my last post about getting help on loading packages on Opie. Real voyage of discover here and I'm still drinking from a firehose. Despite getting my link to the feeds working and successfully instaling some apps and a couple of games, I still cannnot get XMMS to load and run. If there is one app I need/want it is an MP3 player for Opie. The feed script bombs with the following: ERROR: Cannot satisfy the following dependencies ...
libstdc++6 (>=3.4.2)
libstdc++6 (>=3.4.2)
Any help out here?

What I realy need is some form of mp3 player...

bazmi, thx for your comments. Your comment:

> you will need to download the packages listed (oz-compat etc) and install them first before installing the opie-mail package.

I will search for the files.

> any reason you are using command line to install and not the package manager GUI?

In a word: ignorance. I have now had a play with the package manager...

BTW, I have never used the concept of updating from a URL before. (Always downloaded ".ipk" packages and then loaded them from SD card by using the Sharp package manager GUI. Is there a FAQ on how the online loads work?

A newbie question... I have installed OZ on my SL5600 (poodle) and it works fine. However I need the other apps like, mail & MP3 player etc. I have downloaded opiemail package but I am struggling to understand how to get it all together from the command line. I loaded opie-mail_1.1.6-r2_arm.ipk onto my SD card and fired up the ipkg command. I got the following message:

root@poodle:/# ipkg install /mnt/card/packages/opie-mail_1.1.6-r2_arm.ipk
Installing opie-mail (1.1.6-r2) to root...
ERROR: Cannot satisfy the following dependencies for opie-mail:
         oz-compat (>= 0.5) libmailwrapper1 (>= 1.1.6) libopiemm2-1 (>= 1.1.6)
An error ocurred, return value: 1.

What am I doing wrong here? What else do I need?

Mac Issues / Ann: Zmacsync-1.5 Available
« on: January 19, 2005, 11:12:17 am »
Hello hns,

I have now got Rel 1.5.2 installed and "working" for my SL5600 as per the User manual. However, it is quite slow (lots of spinning beach balls) and does seem to slow the iBook right down when trying to open other apps. The good news is that it does sync but misses some calendar appointments. The Log window looks very similar to the sample in the User manual, it just that it takes 6-7mins to get the sync done. Is this normal? (less than 100 names and only 3 weeks of ICal appointments.

PS: On another matter, I managed to blow away all my original Zaurus Address info when first experimenting. No big loss, as I have it backed up on a USB HDD, but need a get a Wintel PC to reload the info again. In order to avoid this, is there any way I can see the raw address files in the Z? i.e via the command line? Where can I get information of the formating of the Zaurus user data?
