Accessories / To Boldly Go Where No Z Has Gone Before... The Bath!

But you can't USE the Z when it's in one of those cases, can you?
No
But for the ultimate protection, this case is very good at what it does.
To continue my story above, after we fished the Zaurus in the 1020 case out of the river, I dried off the case and went below and used the Zaurus (out of the case) in the boat's cabin, where it is safe from falling overboard....

Otterbox makes a generic pda case that has a vinyl membrane that will allow touch screen interaction.  I've used them with an iPaq and a Nokia N800.  Don't see why it wouldn't work with the zaurus.  You won't get to use the hard buttons, but anything on the screen will be accessible.  It should also float if accidentally dropped.  I wouldn't push it under for very long, but it should work just fine for ebook reading.

Debian / Wesside-ng & Easside-ng

It worked for me (the test), but in real-world testing, it didn't. I'm marking it down to a touchy card.

that's good, thanx for replying

¿are you using airoscript for the aircrack-ng suite? it's quite easy to use all-together

on the other hand, by "touchy card" i guess you mean low range? you could try to put a LR03 battery (unloaded is ok, no need to be brand new) on the CF card
 [ Invalid Attachment ]
easy mod to extend range (mine is a planex GW-CF11H). play with the position of the battery to get the best range.

anyway, would be nice that someone could post the impressions on using wesside-ng & easside-ng on the zaurus, in pdaxrom the wesside-ng version has no -k param, and I always get "ERROR max"

I know I should test it myself, but I had a hard time restoring all my customization of pdaxrom, couldn't fully restore my backup and I need a good reason to reinstall debian, again
You've got one of those "gold" stickers on the back of your cell phone too don't you.

For Sale / Wanted / 3100 And 3200 For Sale
« on: May 09, 2008, 12:35:57 pm »
I've got a SLC3100 and a SLC3200 for sale.  Both are in really good condition.  The 3200 has a minor crack on one corner.  Both have minor wear on the plastics from rubbing in a case.  I just flashed the tri-soft images on them so they are pretty much stock now.  I just don't use them enough any more.

The 3100 comes with a ambicom wifi cf card that I modified to use an external antenna.  I used this zaurus to track down rogue access points in my previous job.  Somehow in my move I lost the original power adapter for it, so I'm replacing it with an iPaq power brick.  They're identical voltage, I've used it for a couple years at work to charge my Z.  Still has the original box and manuals.  It's also has a screen protector on it's whole life.

The 3200 comes with a planex cf wifi card, no modifications to this one.  Also has an extra unopened battery.  This guy has a minor crack on the corner, but it doesn't affect the use.  There isn't a screen protector on, so there's some minor swirls from cleaning, so minor I can't get a picture of it.  Still have the original box, manuals for this guy as well.

$300 for each, or $500 for both, plus whatever it will cost to ship them.

Android / Want Kernel Headers And Gcc For Opie 3.5.4 Aircrack-ng Use
« on: April 24, 2008, 05:06:37 pm »
Quote from: Allelectrix
Hi everyone,

Hope your all well ;-)

OK - want to do a few things with my collie:

a) want to run aircrack-ng with packet injection
 want kernel headers for kernel:

2.4.18-rmk7-pxa3-embedix-3.5.4

c) need gcc 2.95.3 20010315 (or above) installed on 5500 to compile a required modification
to hostap drivers, which involves compiling with the kernel.

this is why, this is what aircrack-ng say:

Quote
Nearly all drivers (that can support injection) needs to be patched to support injection in Monitor mode.
You will need the following to compile drivers:

    *
Linux kernel headers that match your current running kernel.
    *
The same gcc version that was used to compile your kernel. At least make sure that the first two version numbers or the compiler are thesame (e.g. it's OK to use gcc 3.4.6 to compile the driver if the kernel was compiled by gcc 3.4.2). Ignoring this rule will cause Invalid module format errors during module load. That can be checked via /proc/version.

so, to recap, I need gcc 2.95.3 20010315 (or above) installed, and 2.4.18-rmk7-pxa3-embedix-3.5.4 kernel headers.

If anyone has a working copy of the aircrack-ng suite working on a SL-5500, can I copy your installation ? - perhaps you would be
kind enough to make a zImage and an initrid.bin of your installation ? - this would save me a whole pile of problems, as I am
new to Linux. I would also like to learn how to make those 2 files.

If not, I need a feed source to download the needed software - does anyone have any links or recommendations ? do you have old copies
of that software ? - can you send me a copy ?

please feel free to email me here at: allelectrix2@yahoo.co.uk

I know gcc is a big installation, so, if you have cramfs files that will run gcc 2.95.3 20010315 (or above) from an SD Card
im definitely interested in that. if not, can someone teach me how to install gcc from a tarball and then make a cramfs of it ?

look forward to your replies ;-)

all the best to you all, allelectrix

Uhh, Android really isn't working enough now as it is.

How long will it take before a base install of some future version of Windows will fill up most of that space?

Probably the next version.  You'll need two of these if you want the "pro" version.....

C1000/3x00 Hardware / Usb Ethernet/wifi/thumbdrives With C3200

I have a linksys usb100m wired network adapter that works with pdax.  No extra hubs either.

I wonder if it's a real device, or just a prop to show what such a device could look like?

I meant add stuff to the sidebar. Sorry for not being more specific.
Ahhh     I don't think anybody has figured that part out.  Did they ever fix the size thing?  With the 2007 os when you hit the menus with the stylus, they were stylus sized, when you hit them with your finger, they were finger sized.  When 2008 came out every thing was finger sized all the time.  A lot of stuff moved forward with the new os, some stuff went backwards.  Nokia really doesn't listen to its users, so changes and updates are ungodly slow.

I have yet to figure out how to do that (one would think it would be easy, granted I have not searched the forum, not that that should be necessary, I have not tried overly hard yet).

From what I remember, install becomeroot.  Pretty sure you need to be in red pill mode.  Once that's installed, fire up the terminal and type sudo gainroot.

Debian / Easy Way To Switch From Wifi Card To Ethernet Card?
« on: March 26, 2008, 09:57:51 am »
Do the old fashioned terminal commands work?  Do a dmesg to see if it's seeing the card inserted.  Then do an ifconfig to see if it's actually seeing it as a network card.  If if is, then you "should" be able to do an ifconfig ethX up, dhcpcd, or dhclient (can't remember which it uses) ethX.

I'd like to see some close ups of the sliding mechanism.  There might be a way to extend the tracks a bit if it's plastic.

Another random Zaurus sighting, courtesy of ThinkGeek:

I can't tell what distro it's running, though.
Pretty sure he was running pdax.  It's the only distro I've been able to get my wispy working in as well.
