Hungary / Welcome to the ALL NEW HUNGARY ZUG!!

We do not charge VAT for Hungarian customers - welcome in the EU
Please note that this is only legal if a customer can provide a registered and verified VAT number (közösségi adószám for Hungary). It is not generally true.

The same holds for importing directly from Japan. They sometimes provide a misprinted invoice to reduce import duties (which are your local VAT).

Sorry to say that, but there are business rules.

General Discussion / New Dual Boot Linux Handheld
« on: May 10, 2006, 04:58:34 am »
Dear all,

we have fixed some bugs on the Letux.org home page. Now, the product index http://www.letux.org/swi is working where we will announce new software releases there.

If you want to familiarize yourself with the basic operation of Letux on the Acer n30, a Quickstart Guide can be downloaded: http://www.letux.org/releases/Quick%20Star...0Acer%20n30.pdf

We are also working on a downloadable demo version for self-installation, although we can't recommend it. Download volume is approx. 30 MBytes, then you have to partition an SD card correctly and install the files. This alone can take easily hours. Therefore we have the complete version on an SD card (compare to the price of an empty 512MB card with lifetime warranty): http://www.handheld-linux.com/wiki.php?page=Letux%20on%20SD

General Discussion / New Linux Smatphone: Imcosys

At http://www.imcosys.com/html/smartphone.html it looks like a new linux smartphone, available in EU !

Does anyone know what does it run ? Qtopia or what ?
They somewhere said that it is a proprietary (non GPL) embedded Linux. I.e. not open and neither Qt nor GPE. So, it is something to experiment with...

The device includes QVGA touchscreen, quadband GPRS, GPS, SD-Slot, Bluetooth and WLAN. Uses TI OMAP 200MHz. Available End of June. Their recommended price is approx. 349 EUR.

If there is enough demand and interest, we could consider to add it to our Handheld-Linux shop. What do you think?

Nikolaus

PS: here is a German language thread discussing the device: http://www.telko-forum.de/viewthread-98-10-last.html

How soon will a 6000L version be released?
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=122109\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
1. Out of curiosity, why was the n30 chosen as the initial platform? The 5500/5600 would seem to me to be a (more) logical starting point given the specs of the n30.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=122116\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
Here are some reasons:
* 5500 or 5600 has been discontinued years ago while the n30 is still available from production
* we want to provide both: complete and easy-to-use package of hardware and software
* the n30 has a much better display and faster processor
* has bluetooth integrated
* is smaller and lighter (approx. 50% of the sl5500 volume)
* has all nowadays required approvals like FCC, CE, WEEE (electronic waste)

The new software site ...
And as we all know, if its not in Google it doesn't exist
Try the keywords "new zaurus software index" and you will find it on the first page:

http://www.google.com/search?hl=de&rls=de-...&btnG=Suche&lr=

Interestingly enough, documents pointing to the new index are ranked better - but that is Google's page ranking algorithm where we can't do anything. And since there are so many links for "zaurus software" pointing to killefiz, it will be on rank #1 even if the last entry is months old.

So, simply complaining does not increase Google's rank.

But you can do something! Just link to the the new software index and use good keywords yourself on the page that contains the link.

I'd say he the biggest problem is that no new software appears. To say it differently, I've been checking the new software index (and old ones as well), and nothing new for 3 weeks.
Hm,
that is simply not true. If you look, there are new entries dated from 12th of Feb, one day before you registered to the OESF forum. So, are there really no new entries within 3 weeks before 28th of Feb?

And, there are 7 new since then.

The new software site is still not getting any hits in Google.
That depends largely on the keywords you use (try "zaurus swi"). And from external links pointing to it. So, if you have a site where you can link from, please make it linked and it will raise in index.

And we have sponsored some Google AdWords.

Many thanks,

While it does have the benefit of a simple interface, I'm sure the old issues that killefiz had would come about (spammed entries) which took up a lot of his time.
We have added an approval scheme where each change needs approval first. And allowing for multiple moderator accounts so that the burden can be distributed onto several shoulders.

And, it is very simple to allow changes with a login only.

Seriously, it's his interface that he created.  Not to get his permission is definitely a no no and goes against the spirit of things.  You need to get his permission imo.

He can choose not to respond at all and it'd be his right.  I'm sure having his old site there generates quite a lot of traffic.

Please make a concerted effort to contact him.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=113462\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
I do not know how the impression came up that we did not talk to him about the interface before switching the new system online. The author of Killefiz even told us that he himself doesn't like it anymore himself - but we do...

Where we did not get a response yet is about installing a link or forward from his address because we did not have this idea before.

And of course he is free to respond or not. As free as he is to switch killefiz off over night. Or to restart maintaining it regularly. It is a voluntary community.

Best regards,
Nikolaus Schaller

The RSS feed has a little problem though: The links are missing a '/' and have an 's' too much.
Many thanks! We will fix that.

There are a few things I would like to suggest and these are things that always annoyed me about kilefiz:

1) dependancy list for each software
2) Zaurus model and roms supported
3) Resolutions supported
1) as a first measure we can add a text field for that
2) is available - as long as the information is consistent. In the new Index you can filter by Model or ROM
3) we can add another text field for that

the problem with this one is the "handheld software index"  where is the zaurus?  people do searches by typing zaurus and not handheld software index.
The title is not the only keyword source for search engines. So, if the title does not contain the keyword Zaurus it might be still on a high page rank if the content of the pages contains it often enough.

And we thought that it should not only be a "Zaurus" index since the Zaurus User Group was also renamed to "Open Embedded Forums" to have a broader scope.
