OpenMoko / Fdom

Oh my gosh, this is becoming too stupid. Why yet ANOTHER distribution? Wouldn't their "skills" be a better help if they were to actually contribute to the current distro?
I have not tried FDOM myself but from reading what it is, it is everything but not ANOTHER (i.e. from scratch) distribution. It is a combination of what already exists. And it is based on the "current distro". Just a package that combines already existing things so that right after installation, users have a working set of applications.

Appears very intelligent to me to do so.

Hi,
there is a new distribution / flash image for the Openmoko Freerunner, called "FDOM".
It is based on the OM base system but adds and fixes applications so that it makes the FR a completely useable phone.

For Sale / Wanted / Fs: Small Number Of Unused Acer N30 Pda (s3c2410)
« on: April 23, 2008, 09:25:29 am »
Dear all,
the Acer n30 is a robust and nice standard PDA. It was discontinued in 2006 but is still up-to date compared e.g. to a Palm Z22.

Now after some projects have ended, we have remaining a limited number (less than 20) of originally packed and unused Acer n30 devices and want to clear that. They come with German Windows Mobile 2003 version but that can be updated and/or replaced by Linux.

The interesting thing is that these devices have the same processor as the Openmoko GTA01. And the machine architecture is supported by Angstrom / OE so that you can easily install Linux, X11, GPE, Openmoko etc. on this device. I.e. it is nice device where it is really possible to play with.

We sell at a stock clearing price of just 99 EUR and can ship to many countries in the EU and some outside (where you will even save 19% VAT). Payment can be by Credit Card or IBAN bank transfer.

So if you want to make a bargain buy, you can find more information and order through:

Sincerely,

PocketPenguin / Group Buy Compulab Em-x270 Diy Phone Started
« on: December 05, 2007, 05:08:52 am »
Hi all,
we have seen recent interest in the Compulab Em-x270 PDA module device and people were discussing that there are no single units available from the manufacturer.

So, we have organized a Group Buy.

We have selected the most complete hardware features, includes LCD, Battery and Keyboard which makes it quite similar to an iPAQ hx4700 with GPRS.

Please visit our order page for details: http://www.handheld-linux.com/wiki.php?pag...%20PDA%20Module

Unfortunately, we can't make miracles become true, i.e. offer it at $111. Since we have to cover some shipment, warranty and other risks, web-management, credit card processing fees and all those costs, we can offer it at EUR 649 (incl. German VAT) - if and only if we get 100 units. For purchases outside the EU we can deduce the VAT so that it comes to approx. 750 US$ (depending on the currency exchange rate).

This needs your help

Please spread this information and redirect everyone who could be interested to this offer. Otherwise we will not reach the limit of 100 units - and nobody gets the device.

« on: September 25, 2007, 08:58:43 am »
One of our customers has tried and gets this error message:
Quote
I've tried to install KO/PI on the PC (running XP) having both copied qt-mt334.dll (www.dll-files.com) from the zip file and using qt-win-opensourse-4.2.3-mingw.exe from www.pyqwt.sourseforge.net and I still get the error message:

"The procedure entry point ? minimumSizeHint@Qwidget@@UBE?AVGSize could not be located in the dynamic link library qt-mt334.dll.".

The error message made no hits in google.
Any hints? Ideas?

Thank you very much,

I have already suggested that. Here the result:

I've tried as instructed on the trisoft site to no avail.

I'm at a loss as to what to try next. I have no Linux specialists in this part of Lincolnshire. Have you any customers in UK that might be able to help?

UK / Support Needed For Sync On Windows
« on: September 24, 2007, 03:01:04 am »
Dear UK users,
we have a customer in Lincolnshire who has trouble with using the Zaurus with Windows and needs more help than we can provide (we are specialists for Apple Macintosh and Linux but not for Windows).

He has tried:
1. the Sharp CDs
2. IntelliSync
3. KO/PI for Windows

Please send us a Private Mail if you can and want to help.

Thank you very much,

Hi all,
the Zaurus Software Index http://www.handheld-linux.com/swi/ has got one new feature:

it automatically checks if download links are currently alive

 [ Invalid Attachment ]

We hope that this makes the index much more useful, because you can immediately see if a package is still maintained (there are so many older packages described where the server was no longer paid for).

We would also appreciate if you could
* post new software releases
* send updates for download links if you finally find a new link or version
* link to the index in your home pages, blogs etc.

Many thanks in the name of all users,

Nikolaus Schaller

I would even suggest to not invent anything new and focus on an open Hardware. We will be happy to sell it.

Use Linux, OpenBSD, Familiar, GPE, Qt, OpenZaurus, QuantumSTEP, ... whatever already exists. That is already open enough. The issue for most of these projects is the availability of Open Hardware!

Just make a nice "BIOS"-API to select which system to boot next time - if there are multiple kernels in memory (or memory card).

For Sale / Wanted / New Sl-c3100 For Sale In Eu
« on: July 24, 2006, 02:46:42 am »
We have a single SL-C3100 unit left over for sale in Europe.

It is completely new with English localization (Trisoft), comes with EA-70S power supply, USB Host cable, CE&WEEE certification, a license for ZMacSync and 24 months warranty.

The price (plus shipment) is EUR 448,- incl. VAT (which is 348,- EUR for a C1000 + 50 EUR for each 2 GByte microdrive capacity, i.e. an SL-C3200 is consequently 498,- EUR).

Please note that we have only one device to offer and the first who places an order can get it. All others still can choose between the C1000 and the C3200.

Instead, you will learn why you should program with the EFL. If you ever wanted to evaluate the EFL but did not see any advantages over previous graphic libraries then this document is for you!
Hm...

I think I have learned why I should prefer the MacOS X API even more. It can do the same with much less code. It can do both, vector and pixel with smooth scaling. And even cache vector images as pixmaps if that is better.

General Discussion / Price Drops

Well, two biggest German dealers are lowering prices almost each week a bit. I wonder if zaurus will be discontinued or just new model is coming (if yes, it will probably have wi-fi built in, Trisoft and Pluster are out of stock for wlan CF:)
[div align=\"right\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
We don't have news on a new Zaurus model...

The issue with WLAN CF cards is that one manufacturer after the other is discontinuing Prism 2.5 based 802.11b cards. Our sequence of suppliers was: SanDisk, Pretec, D-Link.

We still have some D-Link in stock ([a href=\"http://www.handheld-linux.com/wiki.php?page=DCF-660W]http://www.handheld-linux.com/wiki.php?page=DCF-660W[/url]) - but no replacement yet.
